In the last paragraph of First Strike, the Prophet of Truth states: "Soon the Great Journey shall begin." I think this is extremely important in the plot of Halo 2. Notice that Great Journey is in caps. Thus it has significance in Covenant society. I believe this journey involves Earth. I don't think Earth is the final location for this journey because the game would probably be rather short in that case. I think Earth contains necessary Forerunner technology that will enable the Covenant to complete the journey. I think I remember (correct me if I'm wrong) that Master Chief thought some symbols on Halo that he mysteriously recognized were similar to Aztec writings he had been introduced to by Deja as a kid. If this is true, I think the Aztec pyramids, not the Egyptian pyramids, will play a primary role in Halo 2. Then again this may be completely wrong. What do you guys think?

Just because it was similar to Aztec writings doesn't necessarily mean that the underground Forerunner installation on Earth is beneath South America.

Peoples migrated :)

I would love a jungle level in Central America with sniping, temple pryamids and fog that would be sweet.

You know, I just had a thought when you mentioned humans evolving from the Forerunner. Perhaps we didn't evolve, perhaps we were created by the Forerunner. Maybe the Forerunner really are gods and they created other sentient life in the universe. Just a thought.

I just came up with another good idea. Everyone knows about the lost continent of Atlantis and it's technological marvels. Perhaps the people living there (if they were actually humans) were Forerunners. Maybe that's what the Covenant are looking for on Earth.
