Have you read all of them? And if so how much more do they tell about Halo than the actual game does?

Right now I am reading the first and last books for the third time. I am skipping the second book (The Flood) for obvious reasons though.

i think the best one is the first since heeric wasnt restricted to how he should right it. it just flows better the second one is the worst cus the guy wasnt as good as a writer as eric nuf said the third book is almost as good as the first. i had to read it twice and mush things over in my brain to speculate how it fits into the game

Yeah, I really was surprised at the quality of the Halo novels. The second (The Flood) is easily the weakest of the three, although I did like how it gave a little of the Covenant perspective.

First Strike (the third) is my favorite. The hints at the direction of Halo 2's storyline were great. All three of the books do go quite a way in fleshing out the story of the game.

If you like sci-fi books,or even if you dont, you'll probably like these.

i think what made the second book the weakiesy was that the writer bounced aound to many names for the mc like noncom and spartan etc. like i said the third is a close second. i just like how it flows better than the third. also i to like how it kind of let u inside the freating mind of a grunt....wait a tick they did that in the third to. it was when um i think fred or somebody and kelley knucked that covie cruiser in the canyon

I am only skipping The Flood because I have already read it twice and I have played through Halo so many times that I don't need to read about it all over again.

The Fall of Reach was my fav why because it told the storie line of how Akerson is a dick head and how the Spartans grew up and stuff.
First Strike was second because i like the aspect of the ship to ship fighting same with TFoR.
therd well the flood becaused it just didnt do anything for me i mean it was cool that it did the perspective of the covie basterds and the other marines in the group but i still didnt like it that much

I'm reading First Strike right now and I already read the other two. My favorite part of the Flood was when you got the perspective of the Marines (ODST's) and the Covenant (Yayap, etc.).

I've read all three, I I like the first and 3rd about the same, and I agree when poeple say the second is too inconsistant, but I did like the other points of veiw (as others have said). The only thing I didn't like is inconsistancies. For exaple, in TFoR, few covanent ships fire plasma torpedos at the Super MACs, which promptly destroy the ships, but the plasma torpedos continue forward and destroy the Super MACs. But, in FS, when a ship is destroyed, its plasma torpedos fall apart because its ship is no olonger projecting a magnetic feild to contain it (I beleive this to be correct). Here is another example. In First Strike, it says that the Master Cheif and everyone else use the longsword to board the Ascendant justice, and the pelican is destroyed. Later, when in the Ascendant Justice's launch bay, He (eric nylund) calles it a pelican. This is probably just a typo, but I still find it annoying. I am not trying discredit the books, and I still like them, I just wanted to point it out.

The covies wouldnt have to guide the plasma shots, the mac guns werent moving, so as long as the coordinates were set corectly, it would hit the targets.

There are three halo books:

1) Halo: The Fall of Reach

2) Halo: The Flood

3) Halo: First Strike

You can (and should) buy all three novels from the Bungie.net Online Store. All money made from the b.net store is used to fund community events and contests.

The flood is the worst one, but Mr. Dietz had one heck of a challenge. He had write a novel that could be enjoyed by people who knew had played halo and those who haven't. You got to walk a fine line between making it too boring for one group and to confusing to the other. Plus he had to deal with adapting pre-existing characters to his style. Well Nylund did too in TFoR but it the only three major characters that had overlap were Keyes, Cortana and the MC. Keyes we never really get to know all that well in the game, we know he's a good officer and person who likes to smoke a pipe, fair amount of room for Nylund to maneuver. The MC is the same, all we really got to know about him is he kicks ass and he has a bit of a dark sense of humor. Nylund did a smart thing passing up "The Flood". I think he could of written it better than Dietz though because he already had experience with the Halo universe and he had already developed the Characters to his liking. That’s enough ranting from me...
