Random little irrelevant question I've got here:

Who do you think should be responsible for what happened with H2V? Do you feel that Hired Gun has some responsibility for this, or should their owners be responsible for it?

It's not the doggy's fault - he didn't know what he was doing, talk to the owner about it.

I'd like to point out that this isn't a "blame" thread of any sort, I just wanna know what people think >:3

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

Hired Gun was like 6 Microsoft employees. They (M$) invented "Hired Gun" out of thin air. And just as quickly as they were created, they were absorbed back into Microsoft when the -blam!- hit the fan with the failure of H2v. Microsoft is to blame, but so is Bungie. After Bungie sold Halo to Microsoft back around 2000 for Xbox development, Bungie as many of us knew it ceased to exist. As far as I'm concerned modern Bungie will always be Microsoft. The two are interchangable. Microsoft ruined Halo PC to a certain extent, but at least Gearbox was independent and had real talent. They played the hand they were dealt pretty well. The lag was M$'s fault (required 56k support) but the gameplay was still well done as far as ports go. H2v is another story. Hired Gun was fairly incompetent and it shows. You just can't compare Gearbox to Hired Gun. Hired Gun does not even exist anymore. Gearbox continues to make great games. So yeah to sum up my rant, Microsoft is to blame, everything they touch becomes mediocre. Just look at what Bungie has become. All they can do is rehash Halo over and over and make it more "user friendly" for the console kids. When you look at any company that grows huge, their products almost always suffer as they branch out and spread themselves too thin. They lose focus.

Oh and btw, this poll has been done a few times before, not that I mind at all. :)

Microfail, nice post above, look to Blizzard when it comes to successfully output follow-up's to games with the SAME concept. I would even like to see a little more change within their games but they understand what the consumer wants from the sequel, same concept more and better, they do NOT want a completely new game.

Ramble off topic below.
Halo lost its appeal for me personally due to the balance issues and the map layout produced in Halo 2 PC (refuse to call it H2[Insert letter here], they messed with the basic gameplay instead of building off it, though Halo 1 was so superbly balanced (keep coming back to this) it would be a though game to follow, but anyone with logics should be able to produce top map's for any gameplay just by looking on others (the right "other" ofc).

I agree with Frnksnbns, gearbox is a great team (in fact some rumors says that the next chapter of halo will be develop by them).

[i hope that this post will not be read by any bungie's guy, instead if you are reading i want you to know that i respect your hard work that and halo would not be what is now without you]

So is microsft folt if H2v is not as goog as Halo CE (even if i love H2v) because microsoft choose the team for the conversion.

Eh, pretty much. I checked out the credits in the H2V HEK, and there were only about 10 "Hired Gun" employees listed. There were only like 5 engineers.

Bungie has always been Bungie - that'll never change. While Microsoft did sorta taint the development process (ie, the release date that forced them to ship when they weren't ready), and tried to absorb them in to the collective will of Microsoft (they tried to move Bungie Studios in to some generic division of Microsoft - Bungie stayed put), Bungie still has, and will always have a soul. No other company I've seen in my entire life can have the sheer <3 that Bungie has for their games, and for their community.

Oh and btw, this poll has been done a few times before, not that I mind at all. :) I was not aware of this, sowwy.

Has anyone else noticed that there seems to be no trace of Halo 2 Vista anywhere on Bungie.net? It's nowhere in the Project pages--not in the Halo 2 section, and not in the Halo PC section, either--and nowhere in the Games/News sections? I just did a search for "Halo 2 Vista" and "Halo 2 PC", and I haven't found a single thing. It's like it just vanished. Methinks Bungie doesn't want to have any association with H2V... =]

this is very sad,i understand them, i mean see theyr game ruined by microsoft should not be easy for them, but i want to say one thing: till few month ago i did not have internet and when i bought halo CE and Halo 2i did because i loved the plot and the universem and when finally i played online i loved Hao (expecially halo2, it maybe ruined but i still like it) more then ever.
So i do not think that the bungie policy is fair, i mean there are still people outhere playing halo2v, a lot of people.

What does that have to do with anything? And what do you mean by Bungie's "policy"? I don't think Bungie not wanting to have any content related to Halo 2 Vista really changes anything at all; I don't see how that correlates to many people still playing H2V.

Post sense make not sense-making?

Hey, I still play H2V once in a while.

I think it's actually cool, because you know everyone in the H2V community.

The place where H2V went wrong is when Microsoft decided to cancel two things going for H2V.

The first one was, Matchmaking. Can't say much more other then a lot of people like Matchmaking and skill level and stuff. Probably Microsoft's biggest mistake with Halo 2 Vista. But, I am perfectly fine without Matchmaking considering I like custom games.

The second one is when Microsoft canceled the idea for cross-platform. This would have made an amazing feature and experience for Halo 2 players. But I can see why they canceled it due to hacking and such.

Switchfoot4: Hey, by no means do I think Halo 2 Vista is a bad game... it's just a bad port. I play H2V all the time, and these last few days have been some of the greatest times I've had in a while. That's, of course, all the headaches that H2V can cause, aside.

It's also a real shame the HEK is so damn limited... it's nearly worthless to us* devs. This is one place where being overly "user-friendly" shouldn't really apply. And being horribly restricting, and being told what we can and can't mod doesn't help. It didn't have to be this way.

.. it didn't have to be this way =[ This is making me sad, holy crap. *kriez*

Wish Halo 3 PC would come out sooner... :(

Why the Hell does Halo 1 still get support?
Why is Halo 2 abandoned? soo soon, no work was done to it at all.

You can debate whether Halo 2 is a good game or not. I think they broke a bunch of things that didn't need breaking. Halo and H2 are very different. That being said, I enjoyed the campaign of H2, but online play really showed the flaws of the port. The game was solid, the port was just awful. If M$ had spent the effort to make the port good, without the mouse lag problem especially, the game would have been just fine.

Why does everyone hate Halo 2? Maybe its because its the worst game ever next to mario.

Why is everybody trashing Halo 2 Vista? It was everything I expected: Halo 2 on the PC. It is a console port that is well over 5-years now and I did not have high expectations for when it came out in 2007.

I'm there but, man this is really starting to sound like communism.
Long live the MAW.

It's not so much that it's so bad, it's just that it could have been a lot more. Built in HEK was a waste, controller auto-aim, millions of bugs (Offline and Online), Mouse stutters, Vista only, and many other things killed it for me.

Why so much hate for Microsoft here? I'm sure most (if not all) of you are running on some form of Windows.

edit for failed code :(

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Solve one problem, another one pops up. I fixed the mouse for my own personal use of the game. Now with the latest update to Live, Halo 2 freezes for a moment every time someone joins a game. Great when it happens right in the middle of a crazy fight. Oh well.

Yeah, I know what your talking about. It's extremely annoying, especially while playing large FFA matches.

I wouldn't know about the mouse deal, since I have never used the mouse while playing a game in Halo 2 Vista.

But I still think Halo 2 Vista is a good game. I find it kind of funny though, because the H2V community is smaller the the Halo PC community.

I just fired up Halo 2 Vista last night after not playing for a while. I never use to have any problems running a smooth game, but now it does indeed freeze when another player joins.

  • 01.11.2009 10:20 AM PDT

I was about to make a thread about the Halo 2 freezing issues, till I saw the last few posts here.

I could run the game comfortably but ever since the last GFWL update - the game has been freezing for a few seconds. I didn't know that it was caused by someone joining the game.

Has there been any word anywhere at all on a fix or a patch coming to solve it? I enjoy playing Halo2PC when I am on the road where there isn't an Xbox in sight - but this is bad news.
