...ahh, several months... releasing it alongside Halo Wars was a mistake IMO... would be better for the maps (or at least a couple of them) to come out now, then release the other ones with Halo Wars later on, especially since we know the maps are finished (and have been).
The larger the gap that the community has to wait between content (ie, legendary to mythic, mythic to ODST), the easier it is for the H3 fire to burn out before the maps have a chance to keep it alive. Living up to the hype and keeping the community at full throttle is all about timing... SI teaser absent from E3? Turned the community upside down. When the H3R teaser finally DID get posted... it just wasn't the same. It was cool as hell (still is), but it just couldn't live up to what E3 would have done with it.
Now, releasing the Heroic maps right in the middle of the holiday season last year was a great success, even though it was criticized because of its price. However, talking up the mythic maps, releasing screens, and even playing Assembly at PAX gives the community great expectations for January. If Bungie had needed more time to perfect the maps, I'd be happy to wait. But delaying them for Halo Wars just... seems cheap to me. Halo Wars is clearly not Halo 3, nor is it made by Bungie. I'm guessing MS makes the decisions regarding the release of the Mythic maps, as they do own the IP to Halo... in which case I am not surprised.
And also I wanted to add that no new maps are available, just the screens (AFAIK, I'd like Bungie to prove me wrong on this one), so don't jump to conclusions and get too overexcited.
