I hope this problem has not already been posted. If it has please call me a nub and redirect me. I have had Halo on my PC for a long time with no probs. I have the latest 106 updates/hotfix. I also have a ded server for my clan RF. Recently Halo stopped working.
When I try to start Halo i get the initial screen then a black square on the desktop and the pc freezes. I can only fix this by starting manager and ending halo process. It then gathers exception data and closes the game. I have tried a complete reinstall but to no avail.
Any help appreciated.

Sounds like your missing an important startup file or have changed something vital to Halo.

Time to do the universal equalizer. Reinstall, then get all your old stuff back. That's always what I've done when something goes MAJORLY haywire with halo.

hmmm did u recently get the Service Pack 2 for Windows? Cause if u did there's a crash bug that closes down Halo right after u open it, to get the patch to fix that u need to go to the MS Halo PC website, (search Halo PC in Google) once u get to the siye, go to "Downloads" and get the patch, hell, here's the link:

http://www.microsoft.com/games/halo/downloads.asp

if it asks u for ur age, just select 21 or older, cause Halo's rated M for Mature :)

Thanks for the replies all but have tried all of above. I think it's a direct x, catalyst, or Agp bug. Ho Hum.

its happened to me and i fixed it. first have u installed some new RAM sticks? second, try reinstalling the video drivers, they usually are a prob. Finally uninstall halo. (no need to remove profiles and such). then install it. (note: it'll take longer than the reinstalling, because its doing a COMPLETE reinstall of the loading files. if u just press reinstall, it does not touch the halo loding files.) Lastly, check for spyware or viruses. then try halo and see if it works or not?
