Puma: Before you call someone ignorant perhaps you should look at what you're saying. Macs ARE NOT as generally upgradable and hold no capability for such. You CANNOT change the processor if you so choose. You CANNOT change the operating system without special software. Yes you may be able to add more RAM but that's rare and doubtful as well, since I have seen it in only ONE model of the how many? Exactly. So before calling someone ignorant, do your homework. I've used everything under the sun, INCLUDING NextStep, and I know the advantages of ALL of them.

Damn, I guess he told you..

The point of the matter is,

PC's are more EASILY upgraded than Macs.
BUT Macs don't have as many conflict errors.

Macs are easier to use than PC's
BUT PC's have a much larger selection of software.

Each has their pros and cons, but face it, with the collective understanding of technology and the constantly lowering price of PC's, The PC will eventually win out anyway. Not fair, considering Windows was basically a Mac emulator when it was originally released. And I said it. If it hadn't been for Macintosh/Apple II GS Operating systems, PC would never have been so far ahead ironically, Commodore may have been the big contender with Apple, and Jack Tramiel would have taken Billy Gates spot as Supreme Evil Overlord of Redmond.

I never had the money or inclination to buy a whole computer all at once that's really hard to upgrade and doesn't offer as many options as I can have. I like that Macs are much more stable and have less compatibility issues with stuff designed for them, but I like to upgrade gradually instead of buying a new machine every so often. A Mac is great if you need a stable platform that'll be used for a long time and not need constant upgrading to keep up with whatever purpose you have in mind for it, but that doesn't happen to fit me. I don't use Winblows with my PC, so stability isn't an issue at all. Security's really great too. Support is often lacking, but that's fixed with patience and searching. Different machines and operating systems are ideal for different people, so there isn't a single "best" solution. Macs are better for some tasks and users, PCs are better for others, and I think there's no reason to argue. There is no debate, only different viewpoints.

You're thinking operating systems. I've been using Linux/Unix for almost 11 years and I still find Windows to be better. Linux is solely and always will be for system administrators, not to mention the new version of Mandrake Linux annoys me.. It can't even pick up a LAN card anymore.

On a side note: Using our school (University sized) networking the windows and Solaris platforms we use perform and setup a lot simplier with DHCP (which I assume you're using).

Nonetheless, stick with PC vs Macs, not their operating systems.
I'm not an administrator- I'm a dumb user, but I stil prefer Linux because crashing isn't good for my computer or me. I'm using 'Drake exclusively and having no problems at all. My home network has only one machine that uses anything else- the Unclean One. (It has Winblows and a whole lotta weird crap from the internet...) That's the only machine that's ever crashed for any reason other than me doing something stoopid with it. Our home network's really small, composed of frankensteins of hand-me-down hardware, and Linux is the best choice for us simply because we have an expert in the household. (not me)

Edit: That's mostly right, 'Chief, except for Marathon... Lol.

Well I personally dislike Linux for two reasons:
1) The kernal is always half-assedly coded
2) There is NO standardization ie this makes installation hard to damn near impossible for most users. Sometimes I can't even get something to install correctly.
3) Although it may be free, it shows. It's not as good as quality as Windows and I am not quite sure we're you're getting all these crashses from (Maybe you mean 98/ME?) Because since I've used Win2000 through XP the only time it crashed was hardware confliction, easy fix and 99% of the time windows does it by itself. Linux on the other hand wouldn't even support half this hardware, or for that matter be able to 'fix' it. I'm not sure how many times I've sent Linux into a infinite loop/lockout/crash just because I was running something like Gnome or KDE. Hell I even did it with blackbox once!

None the less, I think Windows it a great product, it actually has a quality standard and has a lot of standardization as well. Just my opinion though.
