"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

The colors are gone for two reasons.

First reason is that posts for mods and bungie reps needed to stand out. Color was the best way. This led to the possibility of people using the the color tag to pretend they were moderators or worse, a bungie rep. I felt the added clarity of knowing what's Official and what isn't justified the change - especially for people who aren't as versed with the community as some people.

Second, I didn't like people using the color tag in the first place. It accidently was left in when we first launched, and I regret I didn't pull it earlier. I don't like how lots of people were enclosing all of their posts in say, bright green, to make them stand out. Not only did it look terrible, but it can lead people to believe their posts are more official (especially with the coloring of the official posts).

As far as signatures, the reason they got yanked was because of the implementation of the color tag was removed at a global level (it is gone from news stories too - where it could break even more things). Adding code to make it work only in the signature area was not something I was prepared to do for this release. I may do it in the future, but it isn't a priority at this time.

Damn, in comes Achronos with the reality hammer of doom to wreak havok amongst my dreams and wishes of a perfect world.

Allright, I'll accept this explanation. My protest is officially over.

I can understand how it would be misused by others to create false "official" posts now that mods have their own colors. However, I'll have to find another way to make links stand out. Especially in groups using the Myth Theme, where links don't stand out well at all.

I always feel that underlining links works well in the Myth theme. But maybe if Psyched could get off his arse and fix it, then we wouldn't have this problem. :P

How can people mistake an average member for an employee? I could understand if it was a moderator because they have custom avatars but other than that that is it. Oh well this is all I am going to add in this flamefest but if it was suposed to go before the new hotness how come it wasn't pulled when the new hotness? Darn another why to this whine. Ok I'll stop now. I need to change my sig.

Was it just me or was it like in the last month or two everyone started messing with color tags like they just realized that they were there. What happened?

Don't bring back color tags. The way they were being used was pointless. If you need emphasis in a post use bold or italic. Don't over use them or we'll lose them too.

Before the new hotness, different software was used. It was accidentally left in when the new hotness launched.

ETA: I did notice that word limits in the sig now have to be 30 or under. This was a bit of a pain for me when I tried to make a URL link to another forum's subsection...

Fine, I'll contact Bungie with the new link colours.

Only because you used the British word.

Silly child; I fixed the problems on my theme without prior prodding...

... of course nobody actually uses my theme, so it's a bit of a moot point.

exactly. i think there should be at least some color. it's your personal sig. it shows who you are online. lack of color=lack of personality online.

and we all know less personality = a less friendly world.

  • 04.06.2005 7:24 AM PDT

Yes, but unfortunately a large proportion of Bungie.net members have all the personality of a comb. Another, even more significant proportion have that of a hyperactive tamarin.

Blue's a colour.

Besides, you can change your avatar and customise your Halo 2 emblem. That's some semblance of personality.

And, to be quite honest, if your personality is garish green and luminous yellow then I really don't want to listen to you.

yes, but what about Group Forums? I relied heavily on coloured text to bring a lighthearted nature to my groups, please give Groups the power of Coloured Text! It makes for a much more fun group if there is colour, really, it does!

How easy do you think that would be? The groups use the same software as the site, and thus the same markup tags as the rest of the site.

I'm not that active, but never dead.

I have a solution for everyone.

Instead of colour tags that everyone can use, and just pick any random colour they want, the tags should be just numbers for example:

[ color=1 ]Type[/ color ], [color=2 ]type2[/ color],etc..

Each number would be a different colour depending on which theme your on.
On basic Bungie, it could be Bright Blue, Cyan, and Dark Green. You really wouldn't need more 3 colours anyways.
On the Myth theme, it could be colours that complment that theme.

This way, Bungie chooses what colours we have access to(stops horrible colours) and we have our "individuality".

Making it match with the Themes may take some horrible progamming though, so that may not be possible.

Colors just caused problems especially those who knew enough to make invisible posts.

The Fake site for Fake kids

"what he probably meant was when people were making colored text the EXACT same as the background."

So why disable 'color'? Just as simple to cripple Ink and Paper colours which are the same. To stop a kid picking it's nose one doesn't need to cut it's hands off!

I preferred my own colour scheme rather than the drab default colours. Now all my posts are strewn with redundant codes where before I stuck to mainly the one, mid tone colour (wheat) so they now look terrible. I intend leaving them in.

I must say however that I do like this light blue on darker blue though. I used wheat on the dark green provided. It looked better than the faint green on dark green.

"People were abusing..." Typically amorphous statement that can cover just about anything.

Finally, why do we have to type our comments in this tiny postage stamp sized box with such microscopic text?

Because people were "abusing it"... supposedly...

I would like to know exactly how you can abuse a feature put there to use by the makers of the site.
