I heard there is a new weapon mount on the worthog. Not the rocket mount. it is a long tube that can take out covie transport 'bus' in 2 to 3 shots.

(this is my first thread so don't dunk to hard. ok :). )

It was in the E3 2003 demo vid. It's been called a Gauss Rifle, firing magnetically accelerated slugs. However, it hasnt been confirmed since the video was shown and we've seen nothing of it since, so it may be out or it may be campaign only, we'll have to wait til Nov 9

that would be the gauss cannon from the E3 2003 trailer. i'm not sure if its going to make it in though. notice how the gun itself looks EXACTLY like the rocket launcer gun from E3 2004.

On the back of the Hog in the video is either a Magnetic linear accelerator (a.k.a. Gauss Rifle i own one they're awesome) or a rail gun. both use the power of electromagnets and bot accelerate thing to high velocities. So high in face tht it is possible to bring down a brick wall with a paper clip. The one in the video is most likely a rail gun because it shos small strait projectiles. Because normally with a Gauss rifle you shoot large metal slugs(Because in a Gauss rifle the projectile has a electromagnetic field around it that does damage even if you dont get hit bigger slug biger field). But it doesn't really matter which they used because each does a lot of damage and both use extreme temps in the firing process but then it makes me wonder what kind of cooling system they use.

actually it doesn't the pip is diff and the rail gun(Gauss rifle) has a smaller(thinner) barrel and the RL has its on view sight on the side you look through while the Gauss Rifle(Rail Gun) you stnd directly behind it.

I guess this is a now unnessisary subject lock it

I don't care how fast a paper clip is going-dont you think it would shatter before penetrating a wall? But I could understand if it made a good dent in it...

Also, this, my friends, is a RAIL GUN not a gauss cannon-rail guns shoot fast as hell, just like that one in the vid.

dont kill me i can be of good use

a weapon can only shot as fast as it reloads so it could be either one, I, myself personally think it is a Rail gun

oh yea and it also matter about how much energy is in the paper clip too, because the paper clip is luanched through the barrel with EMC

Drez, its a well known fact that during tornadoes pieces of straw are found imbedded into telephone poles, and even concrete.

I doubt it would take down a brick wall, it would probably just put a paper clip sized whole in it.

On topic, ever since I saw this gun I wanted it. It's like a smaller version of what the Scorpion has...the demo makes it look way too powerful though (This thing fires so well, and it takes out a ghost in one shot!?). Who knows if it will make it in...depends if Bungie thinks it will work well in the game.

I think it looks fun, but it might spoil the fun....ya know?

Edit: And who cares if we call it a guass cannon or a rail gun?? We've all seen what it does, debating over the proper label (when it's all science-fiction anyways...) seems rather pointless.

I don't think it's over powered, but man that tornado story is very interesting!

I am telling you, it's a rail gun. That thing shoots fast as a sniper.

only because they mestup on the sniper ask any real sniper and they'll tell you that a real SR will have kick back and you have to empty the chamber with bolt action most of the time cause its safer

I'm not gonna yell at you cuz your ignorant, but....

This is a fictional game in which you are a "MASTER CHIEF" you are cybernetically enhanced, your basically a robot that can do anything a human can and more, and strong as hell. This is why the sniper has no recoil, it seems only the RL does a lil, but I'm wondering why marines don't face recoil....?

notice in halo 2 how you get recoil from the SMG, and in halo from the pistol and P pistol now tell me how he couldn't with stand those but he could with stand the snipers witch is design to go through 13ft of flesh and bone? because they messed up on it

I think that is either a Ramjet type anti tank gun or it could be an Gauss Rifle.

Drez

Actually, its a Gauss Rifle that fires quickly, not a Rail Gun, which typically implies an utility type device, such as one used to launch ships into space. As for a gauss cannon, that would be an unrifled gauss weapon. Gauss Rifles can range in size from pistol size to rifle size to shoulder mounted rocket launcher size to tank cannon size, and even to a massive ship mounted weapon. By the way, the reason it makes that trail is because the projectile flies so fast that it ignites the air around it. A ramjet on the other hand is weapon that fires a projectile that then propels itself with its own engine. The sniper rifle is also likely a ramjet, or even more likely, a gauss rifle, which would explain the weird displays on the back.

the gauss rifle should stay in the campaign only, it's too powerful, it rips apart ghost in one shot, in multiplayer that would make it overpowering.

Really? I guess we should team up and take that hog out as soon as possible. Or try and hijack it for double gauss hog pwnage.

Sorry kamizar you just shut me the f***k up.
I usually have all my bases covered before an argument, but I guess not this time....
You're right, how the hell does a pistol have a recoil but not the sniper? Also about that "1 bullet after a sniper" thing is real I discovered. You smart bastard, how do you know so much, maybe you were in the army. On the makings of Halo 1 they showed that at first the sniper was called a "shovel" and it reloaded after 1 shot....
Besides it being a mistake, the only conclusion I can come to is that maybe since the rifle is more balanced in arm allignment and with the shoulder guard it is able to be held sturdy while since the pistol is held completely extended it relies completely on strength of the forearm which is not as stable. But I think it's just a mistake, he can flip a damn worthog, holding a pistol stable should be no problem. BTW, can he flip a tank? I never flipped a tank yet and I don't know.

I'm telling you it has to be a rail gun....
