Does Bungie actually take submitted news by members? From what I have seen, the only news I ever see are posted by Frankie, Achronos, and SketchFactor.

Edit - Spelled SketchFactor's name wrong.

You must remember that that is the Front Page of the Bungie website. That page is seen by thousands of people every day. Therefore it is mainly used by Sketch Frankie and Achronos and sevreral other Bungie reps/staff. I am sure that if it was cleared and approved a news story could be posted by a non Bungie Employee.

But what kind of news would they accept?

I think if they let anyone submit news, even if it was viewed by a Bungie team member, before it was allowed to be shown, the Bungie.net team would be overwhelmed at the amount of news and spam being thrown at them. It would end up being like some forums, overrun with spammers and and people who type in all caps. So I think it would be best to leave the news submiting to the Bungie.net leaders.

You do realise that this is possible...

There's a link on the front page.

They allow members to submit news to the Front page because it is possible for us to Find some really iportant news before they do, and if we post it, and they deem it owrthy and important enough, they will accept it.

I think Sketch and Frankie screen out the news. I tried posting a link about a review of HAL02 at cnn.com but I guess it wasn't new at all. Most of the news on the front page is directly about bungie thus comming from the offices "ahem" cubicles of Bungie so unless you work there (or mabey some where in microsoft) you probibly have nothing good to post for news.

Something that is worth it, for the entire community to know.

Sure we do... it's just that 99.9% of the stuff that people submit as "news" is actually total crap. Let's take a look at the current news queue for some examples, shall we?

You know what would be,...i dunno "hip" how about when an elite/spartan is in a warthog(driving) when you honk u can actually see the person honking!....i dunno would be funny and cool to me.
what u guys thinks?

de legionds of the golden hogs
well as i've heard it seems sooooooooooo much like a it exists because my friend has actially got it it shoots out cherries(he he he)!

its really freakin -blam!- when people on your team, escpecially when, they dont get any kills and you win the whole game by yourself.

-blam!- spotty teen rank 13 in head to head had to cheat to win against level 9

...sigh... and it goes on and on and on...

Unfortunately the few pieces of legit news we actually do receive get lost in the sea of incoherent spam. I really wish we did have more _real_ news submissions from our fans. What tournaments are taking place? Who's doing cool stuff with Halo?

If you have news to share that's worthy of sharing with our Bungie.net readers, I encourage you to submit it!

Ahh. That would explain it. Personally, I find it hard to actually think of something to submit that would actually fit. Back to the blackboard!

bah

You guys really should allocate some of the workload to the mods. I mean, they could easily enough sift through and eliminate the "pure crap" leaving only one tenth remaining. Then you guys at Bunige could determine what stuff deserves posting. It wouldn't be all that hard to do. You could train a monkey to do it. Just tell the monkey to reject all news that has more than one spelling error per 20 words. That way, Bunige retains total control over what is posted because they have final say, but they don't have to sift through the crap they automatically ignore anyways. I suppose you could also write a program to do that stuff for you.

I have once tried to come with an idea for the frontpage. It never really worked. Igot writers block. I will have to try again some time.

I dont think you actually "come up with an idea" for news... telling from the examples that did make the cut, it looks like anything that has to do with anything Bungie, maybe fan sites, tribute sites, many people make Halo movies and open archives that are never found and submitting news that tell the site sounds like a decent candidate.

If i really wanted my news on the front page.... i'd probably work hard to make a site that archives all of my Halo Covers with the guitar, tabletures for those songs, some of the comics that i have made using pics from the game and action figures, recordings of big games among me and my friends...

as for the actual news, it'll have to have a good "hook sentence" at the beginning like:
"My new site has opened up and it has a lot of features! Including: Comics, tabs, videos, and more!"

yep... and the rest would probably sound kind of like: "That's right, if you want to see all things halo from a fans point of view, come to www.ilovehalos.blam to find a complete tribute site to bungie and it's games."

ok, so maybe that's a little crappy, but that might stand a chance. And if more people submit something like that, we might be able to wash out the crappier ones by making it easier for Bungie to find the decent news.

P.S. the site above is not real, it could be real if i had the energy to put all that stuff together... but.... no.... sheesh, all that to get some news on the front page... but it would be great

you do realize that all of the people you listed work for bungie right? You can tell. when you look at someone's profile read the MemberID If it is anything under 5000, asume they work for bungie. try screwing with it a little! look at someone's profile and then look at their #. Chnge it to 1. It is the bungie overloard.

this confirms my point that they arn't ordinary people. They work there!!

I really do hate to sound horrible, but here, it isn't politically right to say "-blam!-". I don't know about there, but i would have thought you would have to be more careful of what you say.

As i said, i really do hate to have to say it but i do think it needs to be said. Feel free to delete this post if you want and just so i'm not completely off topic,

It is unfortunate that people don't submit better news. I think the problem is that most people don't know anything that Bungie are up to.

It might cut down on the hype of the game, but the reason they are so secretive is because they don't want to ruin what is about to come to us fans. Like the new multiplayer maps. I believe they would've waited a little while to sursprise us, but Microsoft kind of screwed that up.
