Great update. Good changes and no more Isolation for SS (Social Slayer). Can't wait for the next update!!

  • 01.02.2009 4:40 PM PDT

Hooray and thank you for the January playlist update.

  • 01.02.2009 4:43 PM PDT

Enough with ODST already. Its too far away for me to care. Is our rank in DLC ____ going to carry over?

  • 01.02.2009 4:49 PM PDT

Horray for the "return" of Big Team social but with the equalization between the DLC and standard maps there will be more competition between that and squad battle because, apart from the team size, the experience will be more or less the same in both playlists all the while having the drawback of splitting the potential populations.

Perhaps Team Objective could be scaled up (5v5) to take the place of a larger ranked team hopper and SB be retired because for all that playlist has given us, its redundancies have taken so much more.

So much for my good rank and win ratio in DLC BTB, unless that gets transferred(doubtful). So much for enjoying rumble pit without crap like infection ever coming up.

I also like how the word laggy is quoted as if you're implying your game isn't laggy as all hell.

The Sentinel Beam isn't excluded from Matchmaking due to any performance concerns. It's excluded because it's ridiculous. It may as well be firing super-accelerated clowns. - Shishka

Nothing happens to it. Changing DLC BTB is considered a migration and not a removal, so we're not touching its leaderboard.

DLC BTB rank will carry over to Social BTB.

I seriously hope DLC Big Team's Exp is transferred. If not it's a joke, scrapping Social BTB then reinstating in January once we've had a chance to get Exp in it.

Yay! Big Team returns!

It's always been around, just as a DLC playlist.

Oh god, no infection, please.

No offense to the Bungie cartographer, but all the infection maps in matchmaking such, especially Bubonic, Deadlock, and and the Ghost Town one. Please take some of the really amazing community maps out there... You'll use them for CTF, apparently, why not infection?

Awesome update, I'm glad you guys are consolidating the playlists, and the changes to Objective and Social Slayer are perfect, along with Social Team DLC(I think I know how to get my Splatter Spree now). But my favorite part has to be the community map variants in playlists. My only complaint would be reduced weighting of KOTH and Oddball in Multi Team, those were actually fun sometimes.

Whats the reasoning behind the PTT change? I can't imagine it causing much lag, so there's not much downside, but what's the upside?

Big Team still requires DLC though, so if you couldn't play it before you still can't play it. Sorry for double post.

TEAM Free For All? I can't wait to see how Bungie pulls this one off.

Yeah, it's awesome. Legendary Brawl is the world's only 1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1v1 team multiplayer experience.

i like all the matchmaking changes except putting in infection into rumble pit. Thats the one reason i never really played DLC FFA. Now i dont know how much ill play rumble pit.

Appaarntly you haven't had to repeat sentences two to three times because you forgot to push, or got cut off mid-sentence. It's a shame that it took this long for this to happen. with Live Parties out, it's pretty much irrelevant if you go in with a full party of friends.

  • 01.02.2009 5:09 PM PDT

Hm... I never knew about mic communication causing lag. However I am glad that I don't have to push up to talk on most playlists, that was annoying.

The only immediate problem I would like to bring up with this update is the Push to Talk Restriction being increased subsequentially causing an increase in 'laggy' games. Time after time I read in the Halo 3 Forum about games being laggy and as a result a lose is recorded for participating players in that game. Why was this course of action decided upon? And what of a full, tactical party going into squad battle?

What does this mean for players? Well, for starters, it means communicating to teammates in 5v5 or 6v6 playlists will be trivial. However, this could mean an increase in bandwidth necessary for these larger format playlists, which means the potential for “laggy” games is increased. The best way to avoid lag in these games is to ensure that you are not constantly broadcasting to your teammates, and that your teammates are not constantly broadcasting to you.By reading this it sounds as if a completely new style of play is going to have to be adapted to players that want to stay together and compete as a team. The 'Party System' was implemented to allow groups over four to talk to each other without using the D-pad so why all of a sudden is this new feature implemented if a major drawback to the system are/is 'laggy' games?
