I know exactly what you mean and this is something we've been kicking around for a while... how do we "reward" our longstanding members who contribute positively to our site? Avatars could be one way of doing that. This idea is one thing on our long list of stuff we'd love to do someday. Unfortunately it's not quite that easy...anything I dream up, Achronos has to figure out how to actually implement. =) What other stuff do you think would be cool?

For example - a "private" forum, only accessible by members who achieve a certain rank? The ability to use color signatures? Special avatars? Special titles?

The tricky part is also creating and managing the system that decides who is what "rank." While being a member for X days, months or years is certainly part of it, it's not the whole picture. We want people who are contributing - making worthwhile forum posts, helping people out, submitting news and are just active in general on the site - making our overall community a better place.

I would hope the same applies for the 7th Column Council.

Yes Vella, it should be decided by the staff and moderators. Time is nothing, but kudos to the guys who joined this site earlier, even if they don't do anything.

Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

What great ideas. However, rewards for people who have been a member for an X amount of time would be greatly disliked by people who have, for example, just joined.

Perhaps if a system that would reward people who are helpful, active etc, would be good if it could be impliamented. It would be a gap or several gaps from member to Moderator.

As for custom avatars, these would make good rewards. Submitting a web skin is the only way i know of to get a cutom avatar if you are a member so perhaps, as long as they were moderated, they should be more avaliable.

well, my idea for x amount of time was just one, i had many others, but for the sake of my aching hands, i kept it to just that. And its not like "what I say, goes, or else", these are just suggestions. The end result is entirely upto the b.net gurus.

I wouldn't say only to people that have been here for a while. I would think it is better if they chose people that were active and helpful. Being here longer doesn't ALWAYS mean they are better.

I like the idea of a karma/feedback system, the details of which must be kept secret and no data about it displayed to make it work better and prevent likely abuses. What to do once there's some positive and negative karma points in place? I don't know...

But wouldn't a complicated point system have to be built outside the Ideal Sci. Forum? I mean, wouldn't there have to be a second database built?

Acronos is going to kill me for this. Wait that is quick and painless which is too nice for him. Nope it is definatly a sentance to get ninjafied.

How about instead of a post count can Mods or bungie staff give out points for say good posts or good threads. Or helping out the mods by reporting bad stuff. Basic score card

* Report Spam(double posts, misplaced threads, minor stuff) +5pts

* Report Violation (ofensive words, bad links, viruses) +15pts

* Harassment (constiantly bugging mods about stupid stuff, whining and complaining aobut H2) -5pts.

* Good Post (good replies to a thread, not bumping) +10pts

* Good Thread (Good subject or Thread) +20pts

* Stickied thread (Good thread that gets stickied by Mod or staff in the public forums) +25pts

* Great Group (Founded a great Bungie.net Group) +100pts.

Of course only Bungie.net mods and Bungie Staff give out points and point system will be invisible to everyone but the mods and staff so there will be no competition between the members sience they cannot tell what their score is untill they get a certian level and have their title changed. Also points are only given by the mods and staff so a member cannot just spam his way or get his buddies to spam his feedback up to another level. Well I know this is all impossible but it is a better alternitive to a post/thread count. Heck anything including not haveing one is better than that.

I think that idea is pretty cool, the only thing is, a lot of members change their accounts and it says theyve been a member for like three weeks, when they were a member 6 months prior? (Myself Included)

I mean, I was a member just 2 days after H2 was released on a previous account, "WaitingforHalo3" and If you hand out cool avatars for longstanding members how will I get one? It would kinda suck to be penalized for making a new account...

Ach! Was ist los?

I like the idea of some kind of reward system for people who make good contributions, but I wouldn't want anything that (a) totally screws up the forum system, or (b) works the web team to death.

That does mean that the mods would have to read just about every thread and every post, just to make sure everyone gets what he deserves.

The thread could be PM'ed or mailed to them.

Fair enough.

Know what... why don't i throw in a crazy idea: sponsorship. pay like ten dollars a year, and people get access to extra avatars and forums..... ..... .... .... .... ....

I don't think I really agree with a points system. I've seen them used before and they just breed sycophants and fools who'll do anything to have a thread given points...

Yeah, Mod points systems are horrible, and they have those in the red vs blue forum.

The thing is that there are plenty of helpful members here at Bungie that are very active. Age or the time spent here has NOTHING to do with anything. Just because some people have been here for a year doesn't mean they am better than some other people.

My question: How would they know who is actually helpful and who isn't? I mean, that would probably take a lot of snooping around to find these people. I do try to help around as much as the next person, so maybe it is a good idea. Some sort of reward for these people.

Come think of it, sponsorship might not be that bad afterall, leaving away the fact i don't like to pay for extra's.
