You may not like the idea but a lot of people do. I know a website called Gaia or something like that i have a friend that goes there. They give "gold" to buy stuff for you avatar and such and its the most popular forum ive seen in my entire life. I think the url is www.gaiaonline.com I am talking like 50 times as many people there as here. Its a popular idea and many people like getting something for going online and talking about a game they enjoy.

You are entitled to your opinion and thats ok with me. However, you asked who gives a damn and i do. Id like it. But as the person above me said its up to bungie and bungie alone.

I stand by my previous statement. Guys, if people have points, then those damn people are going to start flaming and bragging about it. It would be exactly like the post counter issue.

*HAHA! I have 50 points!*
*Shut up you -blam!-! I have more points than you!*

THAT is why I don't give the least damn about it.

You may have a right to express your ideas, and we have the right to complete ignore them.
A points or karma system is an interesting concept, but with the huge user database here at Bungie it would be difficult to create a balanced and complete system.
What rewards to give, and what to give them for? Its really more of an issue how to manage the system rather than what rewards are given. Membership dates aren't a viable solution, while generally only long standing members would be known well enough for a mod controlled karma system to work.
The tier system may work,
Tier 1 - Staff
Tier 2 - Master Forum Ninja
Tier 3 - Forum Ninja
Tier 4 - Appointed members of B.net
Tier 4 could work on behalf of the mods to help with a mod controlled karma system.
Then there is another thing to consider, how much can Achronos actually manage to add to the forums.

Why so many more moderators? And you have yours mixed up. A Master Forum Ninja is better than a Forum Ninja.

This forum website has the most amount of moderators I have ever seen. NINE! And including SketchFactor and Achronos, that is ELEVEN. At all of the other forum websites I have been to, they only have around five or six. We don't need an army of moderators as long as people report anything that breaks the rules.

Guys, points would make conflict between members. People would brag and flame about how many "points" they have. It would just be like the post counter bar.

  • 04.12.2005 4:53 PM PDT

You know how a tier system works right? I placed the Master Forum Ninjas above the Ninjas. A karma system wouldn't necessarily cause conflict. I was actually thinking about a system that was completely controlled by mods and/or tier 4 members. The system itself could be invisible to all others, it would be necessary due to the large user base here.
I never suggested adding more moderators, only a 'security role' for the more respected and productive members of B.net.
I am only making suggestions here, so please stop forcing your view down my throat.
There is already an invisible "system" in place here, certain members respected, members working to help the 7th Column, even though some of this is biased by the membership date.
Also on the subject of how many mods are here, its an issue of the userbase again and the enourmous volume of threads created here. The forums you may have visited I can assume has only the fraction of the members these forums have, if you actually compare the numbers, the ratio of mods to members here is probably much smaller.

-Quaere verum.

Got a report? Use the report tool or send a pm.
Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

The idea is good. (the points per daily post and removed for spam etc). But look guys, there's a simple way to solve the problem of member conflict. Bungie don't say how many points it costs to get stuff and members will not be able to see how many points they have. There. Sorted. I realise of course that there are many other problems, but my idea seems to eliminate the problem. The only problem that it would create is that people would then constantly ask how many points they have. But you know guys, if a system was made, there is always goin to be floors and problems with it.

the end result is up to bungie, whether they decide to do something or not.

In my opinion, having a system that uses time here as a reward is somewhat unfair. True, at least a few months should be necessary, but look at guys like GameJunkiJim who came here and immediately contributed in a positive way. I wish there was a ranking system somehow, but only certain people should be able to rank.

Maybe this, it starts off with everyone at rank 0, and then the mods and Bungie can contribute to people's ranks. Every time a rank is added, it computes the person's average rank. If that person reaches a certain rank, they can start ranking people. That way, the riff-raff could never rank people, but those who are truly helpful and intelligent could.

It's a good sytem in theory. I'm sure Achronos could find a way to do something similar...

You guys have no idea how hard I am laughing at this "points" thing!

Here I am sitting at dinner and in the middle of it, I burst out laughing at that "points" idea. Even when I was playing Halo 2, I couldn't help but laugh at it. Life doesn't work like this:

Person: Hey, you are doing pretty good with your points (*Laughs*). You are pretty good.
Your Mom: Haha thanks man. I am not as good as you, but I am trying.
Person: Awesome. I will see you around.

This is how it works:

Person: Haha! I got more points than you. You are so pathetic!
Your Mom: STFU! Seriously, I hate you! You are so arrogent!

^^That is reality.^^

Hey, don't feel bad. Thanks for the suggestion. I really needed a good laugh. And even if it turns out that this points thing does go on, I will still laugh at it. No offense taken.

Only someone with deep rooted problems would brag about having more points then someone else. Especially when all its related to is how much you get on your computer.

Also, this may not ever come to be so don't worry about it.

Same with a private post counter. Only a real loser would actually brag about it. That just means he/she has no life. I am not worrying about it, I just find the idea...odd; even if it does come out.

Shut your damn mouth and stop complaining. You're becoming worse than the freaks in New Mombasa that don't stop complaining about Halo 2.

That's why the "points" should only be given to people who don't say such stupid things.

You do realise that bragging about points would be a reason to lose all your points in this hypothetical situation, don't you? Or that we might even ban people for bragging?

Obviously not.

The thing is that I go to a few other forum websites and no one actually brags about their post counter and such. I have never seen a forum website with points. But in reality, people would most likely brag about it. I don't like this points idea. I like the idea where you have to be specifically chosen to get more privileges.
