Subject: The 7th Column Council

Now that the mad, mad rush has died down somewhat, and people have got to grips with the new Column, it seems the right time to discuss the 7th Column Council.

For those of you that don't know, this would be a group of trusted volunteer members that takes on the job that Bungie staff used to do for the Community section, namely finding chapters for the spotlight and handling news from the chapters.

So the question is this: What do you guys see the Council doing, and do you think that it's a good idea?

I would see the Council promoting groups, finding good groups for the Spotlight, answer good FAQs, and updating the Community section if needed. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Damn straight it's a good idea. You guys get weight taken from your shoulders, and can spend more time cleaning up whatever mess the bad eggs on the rest of the forums create.

... Actually are YOU sure you want to do that? :D

Personally, beyond actual work you mentioned above, I could see the Council acting as inspirational 'model denizens' for the rest of the Column. You guys are spread pretty thin in comparison to the number of posters these days, and I'm sure you'd rather be dealing with serious offenders rather than just mildly annoying posters who need a gentle nudge in the right direction.

I think it's a great Idea. I see the council checking out Different Chapters, thier content, activity, etc... to decide which Chapter deserves to be in the Spotlight that month. I'd love to see the Council formed.

The Council is more to do with promoting the Column and good groups.

Either way, I find it a good idea, personally.

Oh I see; well in that case I think you pretty much noted all it's necessary mandate in your first post! :D

Good idea all round; but a better idea should the Seventh Column be hotlinked on the front page of Bungie.net.

Oh, will the Council have the ability to see forums from chapters they are not members of? It'd make it so much easier to tell if that chapter is worthy of recognition if Council people don't have to sign up to each chapter they peruse.

I like the idea. Have always liked it.

Could we also get that "7th column week in review" thing back? Post it as front page news. Not necesarrily a top story, but news...

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

I think it's a great idea, more people need to become active in the Column, and a spotlighting of good groups would be a great way to do it.

That is a great idea. The council could deside which chapter or chapters gets the spotlight. We could also promote some really good chapter that just need to be reconized. I volenteer if there is a council yet.

I (like everyone else in this thread) think that it's a great idea to have a council that would choose different chapters to be in the "Spotlight". There are many, many chapters on bungie.net that deserve to get some special attention.

Sounds like a great idea. I would love to see the chapter spotlight back,

Spotlight never left. For right now, the Marty Army is in the spotlight.

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

I missed this thread so much. The column has slowly been dieing and this would be a great way to help. As I said last time the thread was up, I'd be willing to help out in whatever way I can.

In response to toast, I'd assume it would be se7en in old bungie fashion.

It sounds like a good idea to me. One of the people I know on these forums has created a group called...The Seventh Column, and that was the kinda thing he wanted the chapter to do...

How long do we have this idea now? like a year or so? With any luck something will actually happen with it.
Anyway, the first priority is promoting the 7th column.

But before i get ahead of things, i still want the next question answered: Who will be in the council?
After a year of discussing this, and i still don't know who the potential candidates are. And no, let's not turn it into a popularity contest.

I really should get that nervous twitch looked at. Until I do, though, could everybody please be a dear and stop misusing the word "hopefully"? I'm sure that would help a bunch. Thanks. :)

Well, they'd have to include all the old-timers: Master Xbox, Neo117, Davester (yes, all of them). You know, all the cool people. Oh, and of course JAF - he always goes in a list with those guys. :P
