It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

I think I am qualified to be on that list, but if nobody else thinks so, then so be it.

Ditto I have been focusing on this thread a lot.

* Maintain the Community/7th Column area.
* Put groups in the Spotlight.
* Get news and information on groups.
* Answer any good FAQs about groups and such.
* Be able to browse certain groups, and if necessary, moderate offensive groups.
* Promote community events such as LAN party's FANfests, tourney's etc.
* Post Community-worthy news.
* Answer many Bungie and Community questions.
* Promote the 7th column
* Update Column News
* Conduct surveys.

I've updated the list to include some new ideas, and omit things that might not work (theme/avatar approval - although I'm not saying it won't work). Interviewing Group Founders should be left to Chapter Founders. Feel free to mess around with this to come up with something better.

Actually, that list looks pretty good. But maybe it would be too hard for us to browse offensive groups.

Not if they were reported.

The reason I tossed interviewing in there is because I thought that it could make some neat news. Like interviewing Mr. Smiley.

Also- when spotlighting a group, always make sure it's ok with the founder!. I know a few groups that don't want their info released all over Bungie just yet,

So if the members could browse them, would they be able to delete it or something?

And yeah, we would have to ask the founder first if their group was offered for the Spotlight.

BlackEye- I don't want to come across as mean, but a problem with you running for the Council is that you've barely been here 2 and a half months. I think that people who have been around longer would be better suited for the job.

Now that we're on this topic, are there going to be any restrictions placed on people who want to run? Like how long they've been here, how active they are on the column, that sort of thing.

Rip Saw- I agree 100% about them needing to be here for a few months at least. The longer, the better. Before the New Hotness would be perfect.

Disagree. The New Hotness was April 12, 2004 -- if my memory serves me. There are a LOT of good members that deserve to be on the council, yet joined later. A few that spring to mind are GJJ, Vella, Aleph, Psyched... and quite a bit more too. I'd say that 6 months experience is required. That would make it roughly November of 2004 -- a good date, in my opinion.

Yeah, but I am really active here. Active like you so it doesn't make it too bad.

I think activeness is most important. We should choose people that are active. That is why I think you are qualified because you seem really active, along with other people. Oh, and I will include myself in that part. This is one of the two forum websites I go to. I don't think age is the matter for the most part.

Just out of curiousity, if we could browse offensive groups, what would we do to them.

I know that you're very active, which is why I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt. However, experiance is also very important. Rip Saw, Myself, Eagle117, BobBQ, we've all been here a few months over a year. Now I don't want to sound elitest, which is usually how I sound when I say things like this, but time here is also very important, especially for something like the 7th Column.

The Council would probably issue a warning to the Founder or something if it was going on within the group. If the group itself was offensive, then a "LockDown" option would be neat. It expells all the members and doesn't allow anyone to join. Then the 60 days takes effect. That's assuming that it wouldn't be easier to just delete the group.
But LockDown mode sounds so... sexy.

The problem is, Blackeye, that you haven't done anything.

Truth is, you annoy most people. They try to be nice to you, but you really are a pain. You simply restate posts and agree with people who you think run the show around here. I've also seen you act rather immature in the Flood. Activity is not the most important. Spending 6 hours a day on the column does not make you intelligent nor capable of making good, thoughtful decisions. You are thirteen. You have been here 2 months. You simply aren't ready.

The time requirement also serves another purpoe. lots of people are active to begin with then die off after a few months. Also, they wouldn't care about the community as much as somoene who's been here a long time. I don't think a year should be required, but at lest 3 months.

Approving/rejecting avatars might be out of our reach. I fear it isn't tied close enough to the 7th column for Bungie to allow. But the newest list looks fine. We can't let this drag on too long. We need the members of the Council to be elected or nominated soon.

It is possible to go into a groups forum, Achronos does it all the time (when he has time).

I think we need the green light from Bungie for the ablities the members would withhold. I personally like Psyched's list. Bungie also needs to set a limit on council members. After the ablities are established, there needs to be poll. Maybe Bungie could make the council's page. The page would only contain a poll. This poll could have how ever many people (options) needed. That way everyone would be included. After a period of time (lets say a month) the top people picked in that set limit, shall become the members. Only if it's decided by the public. I'd rather the members would be picked by moderators.

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

I agree 100% that the council should not pick moderators. Approving/denying avatars has nothing to really do with the 7th column but is more of a forums thing so in theory, if anyone should do it besides Bungie it should be the mods.

Also it is not the quantity of activity, but the quality of activity. I won't pick the guy online 24 hours a day over the guy online maybe 10 hours a week because of how much he posts.

I used to be a pain here. That was because I was completely new to forum websites and I didn't even know what the word "forum" even meant. I used to also spam, and rather act dumb, but after my blacklisting, I tried to shapen up. And I wouldn't say that I haven't done anything beneficial.

Back on topic:

I am more focused here anyways on what the Council should do rather than who is in it. And I do agree now that choosing/accepting avatars is too much for them. I also think that they should leave theme choosing to Sketch and those guys. It is just a Council.

I think that the people in it are the absolute most important factor. If you get some ass who screws everyone over, then Bungie will most likley scrap the Council and won't let the community make something for a very long time. The powers, well we can learn by trial and error. But if you get one single bad apple in here, it will destroy everything within a 100 mile radius.

BlackEye- Sorry, but I have to say this. I don't think you are suited to be on this Council. If what you say is true, then within a 2½ month period you managed to get blacklisted. That's tough to do. Now, that being said, I'm guessing you spent at least 15 days spamming, including your sentance. That leaves 2 months of not spamming. That is nowhere near enough time in my opinon. 8 months of serious posting would make me comfortable. If the truth hurts, then I am indeed sorry. But I don't want someone on this Council that I feel is not 100% devoted, and has enough experiance behind his belt to let him do his job adequatly.

What I mean is that as for now, it is more important deciding what they do rather than who they are at the moment. But yes, the members are important as well. And Psyched's list looks good if you ask me.

Oh, I was blacklisted on my first week, nothing much. But I don't care too much right now. But isn't 8 months too much? I was thinking near 5 - 6 months IMO. Oh, doesn't bother me about what you said.

Blackeye, you do realize in the post you quoted saying you've changed and you don't just restate the post and agree with everyone else, you restated what has been said agreed with everyone else. Not sure if you caught onto it, but it is quite ironic.

It is never too much.

That is just what I would feel comfortable with. I'm not saying that the minimun should be 8 months, I'm just saying that anything less would make me a bit uneasy. 5 months would mean they joined after Halo 2's release, in which case they really haven't witnessed all the aspects of the community in their fullest. To get that, you's need to give this place a year or two to calm down.

That might not be a bad idea. They need to have joined before Halo 2's release? That way the people know the community that their going to be supporting well enough. I probably sound like an elitest jerk now though.

I don't get what you are saying.

Here is a list of who I would choose:

* Rip Saw
* VII Toast
* Pink Menace
* Psyched
* BobBQ
* Vella
* Ghandi 2
* Halo53

There are more but I am having a hard time thinking of them. Oh yeah, you make sense since 6 months was during the Halo 2 process.

If I had to choose a council right now, it would be

9 members

Rip Saw
Vella
VII Toast
GameJunkieJim
Halo53
Impurity
Psyched
BobBQ
Pink Menace
