Well, they'd have to include all the old-timers: Master Xbox, Neo117, Davester (yes, all of them). You know, all the cool people. Oh, and of course JAF - he always goes in a list with those guys. :P

Dont forget Darkness1282 and Joe Halo Master.

Dammit! If all you losers hadn't "reformed" me, I would be on the council! D'oh!

Neo could be the leader. He always was the brains of the bunch. All the others were as dumb as bricks. Especially that Master Xbox character.

Back to the point.

Yesterday, on the history channel, I was watching a documentary about the Roman and Holy Roman empire (I this will end up being on topic, don't worry). Now, in the Holy Roman empire there were two parts of the government, the Emperor/military, and the Pope/church. Each held almost equal power (most of the time, or whenever they weren't bickering and fighting with eachother). Now, think of B.net like the Holy Roman Empire. We have the Emperor and his military in place, now we need to have the Seventh Column council act like the Roman Church, by supporting the Bungie "faith", converting new members, and making sure people pretty much stay with us.

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

Banshee, we know the pope died today but they'll get a replacement in Rome. I don't think any one of us here would make a good pope ;)

I kid, I understand what you meant. If I recall correctly, I think the plan was to let the Bungie Employees chose who'd be in it, am I correct? It should not be by popular vote or plebiscite (Banshee isn't the only one of us here who can use big analogies. Damn history class and the whole lets study the French Revolution...) because just because everyone likes him, he may not be the best for the job.

it sounds like an excellent plan. But actually how practical is it?

What aspects of practicality do you think it's missing?

I wonder? Would I be on the Council.

  • 04.08.2005 1:33 PM PDT

I'll help, and I think the council should do reports about up and coming clan, that they think will be big. And people could bribe the concil to get their name on the Seventh Column on the front page.

The bold was a joke.

Ahumm, about selecting the council members, Who would select them?
I don't want a popularity contest, but i'm not sure if the Bungie employees (Sketch and co) know enough people. And if the mods or so would select people, than doesn't it turn out into "You know me" politics?

Damn history class .

Those who don't remember the past are bound to repeat it.

I think establishing the Council would be a great achievement. I think the 7th column is like the forums from the old site. Most people don't know about the column. This would certainly help those un-educated learn about the column.

With that we would need a heirarchy... You have the council head at the top, then you have the executive or high council, consisting of about six other members, then a general council of about twenty members, and then the septagon (which is basically performing the same functions as the council would... I guess...)

Hey, I think I actually like the idea of having several different levels of council leadership... makes sense too.

So it would be something like: 1 Bungie employee (councilhead), 6 moderators (the executives), and 20 other members?

More or less, though not neccesarily mods in executive positions...

The way I picture it, we have the main body come up with ideas, then pass it on to the executives which either accept or reject it, if they accept, the council head give it the thumbs up, at which point the council head will post it in the septagon. If it seems the directive will be well-received, he will go ahead and execute it.

----

Please note, that my idea goes on the assumption that the council will meet in their own chapter.
----

And how do we appoint council members? I had an idea for that too... although it isnt very good.

Basically, we have members nominate people, and have a couple run-off polls, till the total number of applicants is down to a reasonable level. Then the mods make the final selection.

Then it's just a popularity contest.

Popularity contests are bad. I say a Bungie Employee either choses the members or choses someone they trust (Like a moderator) to chose the members.

Dude Reiginko I like the idea of the old timer column people being in the "council" but it should also include some of the new comers too. They bring a new enthusiasm to the site and without them there would not be a seveth column. So to make a fair council that will look at all the groups I think the council should be conprised of 4 old-timers possibly 2 of which would be bungie mods and 3 new comers to the column to bring there unique perspective.

  • 04.09.2005 11:17 AM PDT

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

The problem is that the new people usually haven't proven themselves trustworthy, and I doubt they have a "unique perspective"....and that Council is way too small man. I like the idea of having 20-30 (or possiblly even 40-50, although that probably would be too many people to accomplish much) people in it.

No polls, all people must be selected by Bungie or the moderators.

You wouldn't want members to choose moderators or *gasp* staff, so why would you want to let them choose a council? Trust me, if you let all of Bungie.net vote for any kind of authority, the council itself won't last long.

An appointed Council is the best way to go.
