Although it would be convinient to have a council of a mere 7 people, I think it is too small. The idea of having different groups or "branches" would be a good one. Evenually, the Councils thoughts would pass down into the Septagon, open to public discussion.

The Council is more to do with promoting the Column and good groups.

Sounds good. Very good. We need Group awareness!

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

I don't think who is chosen to the council should be based off their join date. If 7 new comers would do a better job, chose 7 new comers and vice versa with old timers.

I think the Seventh Column should get a news site again and its own forum plus some other cool features...Like chapter spotlight. The council would be in charge of keeping the Seventh Column site updated. I don't think the council should run a chapter or anything like that.

Yeah, but the Web team is responsible for B.net.

The council hopefully won't be a poll, that be horrible. It should definitly be appointed by Mods or an employee.

1) Stop saying hopefully like Reiginko said (it's starting to annoy me now).

2) I believe Bungie is smarter than that.

What about council size? In my opinion, twelve to sixteen people seems a reasonable size... small enough to be productive, and large enough to have a wide variety of opinions.

Yeh! Go for it. It would certainly bring life back to the column and to all groups. Other than the people that are basicly invited, how will you organise getting other volunteers into the council? (sorry if this was answered before)

Can i just suggest that you don't just have oldtimers and people how's chapters have a lot of members. I feel that it should be a bit more democratic than that. (Just a suggestion, feel free to ignore me if you so wish)

Still, i do believe that the the councilers(?) should be a member of B.net for at least 3 months or so.

I think it's more important to make sure that council members are intelligent and functionally literate, personally.

I think they should have their own website because they could do more with a website than chapter.

  • 04.10.2005 8:56 AM PDT

The Council would essentially have the community section of b.net.

  • 04.10.2005 9:22 AM PDT

Say the Council got a news site. and they got there own forum...
Would this mean Member of that council with those privlages could start acting more important than the other members of B.net. Im just saying, this whole council idea sounds really good, but the people involved would have to be mature and somewhat modest.

Why not just use the moderators we have now as the members of the council?

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

Because there are not currently enough moderators to handle it entirely themselves. The council should be headed by stosh, and maybe have a few mods in it, but there needs to be non-mods for it to work at all.

Yeah. A council made only out of mods would... Not be a council. There should be a couple in there though.

I agree. Council members should at least be a member for 2-3 months so they know really what they're talking about. Certainly they would have to be mature and modest.

If the coucil were to be set up, there would need to be strict rules reguarding this amongst other things.

The point of making a volunteer council was so that Mods wouldn't have to do all the work.

And finaly, they would have to also be members that could speak intelligently and how spoke proper English rather than a lot of 'text talk' naming no names *cough*My Brother*Cough*

To tell you the truth, I'd like to see some action this time around. I fear the same thing will happen that happened last year. We'll talk and plan and have ideas but then a few months will go by and when no Bungie Employees take a look at this and come to a final decision, the topic will lose steam and fall off the front page and next thing we know, it's April 2006 and we're starting from scratch for the 3rd time. The majority of what we're saying now has been said before and I hate to say it but we seem to be going in circles. I don't mean to sound like a pessimist or that I dislike this idea because I think it'd be a great idea but this needs to be brought to the attention of someone who can actually get the ball rolling. A Bungie Employee (Or more than one) will have to have the final say if they are going to give these council members extra priveleges to run a certain part of the site so decisions like "how many members should be in the council" or "the qualifications of being a member" are ultimately up to them. We should focus more on issues like what exactly the council is going to do, how this will benefit the site, why should Bungie Employee X and Bungie Empployee Y approve of it etc.

Just my opinion. I could be totally wrong.

Excellent idea...

What exactly would the council do?
I was under the impression that it would be responsible for promoting the 7th column, and coming up with ideas to improve it.
Maybe we could even get a "7th column week in reveiw" going again, written by council members?

Nothing was ever going to happen until the new Column was up and Halo 2 was out.

Now that the mad, mad rush has died down somewhat, and people have got to grips with the new Column, it seems the right time to discuss the 7th Column Council.

For those of you that don't know, this would be a group of trusted volunteer members that takes on the job that Bungie staff used to do for the Community section, namely finding chapters for the spotlight and handling news from the chapters.

So the question is this: What do you guys see the Council doing, and do you think that it's a good idea?

I honestly have no clue what this means.

Chapters? Like some sort of book?

Im sorry im stupid.

Chapters, as in: group, like small version of B.net, made by no other than... you.
