If any of you remember Matt Soell..wait never mind you don't. (Except for the Old-school :) )

Anyways, The council would basically add Content to the 7th Column. Articles, Spotlight, news stories, and maybe even organize tournaments!

Just to refresh everyones mind, here is what the Council could do:

Promote the 7th column:
Put groups in the Spotlight
Get news and information on groups
Interview group founders
Conduct surveys/gather intel on the current community status

Maintain the Community/7th Column area:
Search for community worthy news
Post Community-worthy news
Update Column News
Update The Community section if necessary

Take off workload from Achronos:
Answer any good FAQs about groups and such
Answer many Bungie and Community questions
Approve/reject new chapter themes
Approve/reject new avatars
Make a list of rule breakers

This seems a pretty good list of responsibilities, and in my view (not necessarily yours) it should be the one we stick with. It may need some ajustments and/or additions though.

Sounds pretty good to me. Not sure about the list of rule breakers, maybe report them but a list would.. well for one it would take an awful long time :P

Besides promoting groups, I would suggest they also can organize charity events, such as hurricane katrina. Or help formulate events, Halo 2or otherwise, with other bungie (fan) sites. They could either be chosen by the mods, or preferably elected to a term.

Charity stuff may be slighly heavy for our shoulders if you know what I mean.
On the side of members that make it into the council, there appears to be a lot of favoritism towards the Pre-new hotness members. Before anything happens, we need to define who Bungie wants on the council, whether it be pre-new hotness, new hotness, responcible members or whatever.

I won't go to in-depth on that front.

Charity events and such, shouldn't be the council's concern, unless the actually have the ability to do so. Helping out with that those kind of events is ofcourse no problem.

And about who is going to be councilor? Hard to tell aye? Well, we pretty much all agree on the fact that Bungie should choose them, and about 20 pages back or so, quite a few lists were made. Now, we can use those lists as advice for Bungie.

the whole council seems to be chained down. One of the reasons: We don't have something solid to show. Right now the whole council seems to exsist out of loose ideas.
We are still coming up with new things, but maybe, we should start hacking things of.
What are things we DON'T want to see? Do we really need the council to organise charity events, do we need them to review every little 5 man LAN parties? What do we not need and what can be removed of the ever growing list of council ideas?

Right now the whole council is a bag of pudding. not the pudding that is firm and where you need a jackhammer to get through, no, it's the kind of puding that jiggles around and starts sliding of your plate the moment you gently blow against it.

You got that right. I remember before I took my vacation I used to be one of the guys who were trying to move this Council thing along. I come back, and here it is still. In the same state as I left it. Someone should be set into power to get this thing moving, because, unless things have changed that much, Bungie isn't going to back this idea until we have laid every bit of it out ourselves, making as little possible work for them to get this rolling officially. You should take it upon yourselves to choose your own Councillor, and begin setting things in stone. I believe that is the only way anything will ever go anywhere with this idea.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

I dont want to see favoritism.

Like when yoozel make his weekly upadtes he posts a link for chapter founders everyother sentence, I know hes only doing it cuz chapter founders is a great help, but still it may seem unfair to people who dont know what hes talking about.

I dont want to see groups run by mods on the spotlight, they already get advertisemnt by the meer facts that they are mods.

I dont want to see small or dead groups on the spotlight.

I say no to charity events. let bungie handle that. And screw insignificant lan partys. Stick to real deal tournaments.

THATS what i dont want to see. Thats my honest opinion, plz dnt flame me/

¶ I would have to agree with that. I dont want to see the super groups on it. The ones that already have well over 1000 members, or have a sig link in every other persons sig...

I would love to see groups that are doing well with small #'s, are really active, or serve some purpose...

Thats if it ever gets activated again. ¶

i don't feel like leaving out the big ones. EVERY chapter got to have the chance to be in it. Numbers do not matter, wheter it's a small or big number, if the chapter is any good, it deserves the right to be in the spotlight.

-Quaere verum.

Got a report? Use the report tool or send a pm.
Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

I'm in agreement with just another fan. Alhough it would be nice not to have Marty's Army first.

¶ I know you didnt say to leave out large groups, that was me.

But I think the enourmous groups get enough recollection anyway without being in the spot light. Why not show off some smaller groups?

Its just like with anything, showing Normal everyday people will always have a much larger effect than showing the stars everyone knows about.

Have you ever seen the movie "13 going on 30"? Remember her proposal? ¶

I don't think the enormous groups should be in it. They have enough members as it is. Numbers do matter. They don't need the publicity. And I don't think the Council needs more then 7 members either.

  • 10.06.2005 1:51 PM PDT

I'm not that active, but never dead.

At this moment, I agree with Pink/Pimp (still getting used to the new account lol). Considering that the council has no official power, have 7+ people on it is just going to complicate things. I think that at this moment we should have 7 councillors and increase the number once they get some actually power.

i still believe that big chapters deserve to be in the spotlight. Remember that the spotlight isn't an advertisement, but a recognisition. But it is true that smaller chapters are the biggest priorities.

And the council size? Altough it should have quite a number of councilors ( 15 or so always sounded good to me), but i can see the point about having a smaller council at first. Afterall Rome wasn't built in a day, hell, it wasn't even built within a year, nor is this council :(

It WILL come true. Bungie doesn't have the time right now for the council, Achronos said it.
it will come after the search function and 300 million other top priority items.

So who should the Councilers be? We need to decide. Go to The Council Chambers and join, everyone here. It's a group. Use it to discuss thsi stuff without new threads clogging up the Septagon.

Who is better suited to pick? The people who can't do this because they are too busy making their next game? If they don't have time to do this, what makes you think they will have time to check out the forums and see who's contributing? I say we give them a list of 20 or so people just as a guideline. Besides, what else are we going to do?

i don't suppose we could all just accept that they are taking their time, so i suggest that drawing up a shortlist is a good idea
