I have two questions:
1. If they do reset the stats, won't the matchmaking be messed up because everyone will be ones. Some 20s will be playing with 15s playing with 10s playing with 1s. If this happens, it will not be very fun to wait for the people who only play halo their whole lives to level up to be able to actually get in some games with your own ranks. I am against reseting stats, except in those who have been convicted of cheating. If the matchmaking system can remember the person's old ranking some way somehow, I am all for it. Otherwise, a reset in stats would not be very fun (does anyone remember when team slayer came out, and all the abilities playing were jumbled up? That was not very fun).

2. Is it possible to get rid of the battlerifle-plasma pistol combo. Now everyone uses it, especially on Collussus. It shows no skill whatsover to use it, and I believe it should be taken out. I know this will be hard, but is it possible for the plasma pistol to become overheated when charged up, making it unable to switch to the battle rifle. If this happens, you won't see level ones killing me anymore.

Don't reset the stats, keep the cheaters up high as their punishment, let them get pummelled over and over until they smarten up and level down to where they belong.

The cheaters won't keep playing just to get pummelled. Most will either stop playing, get a new account, or play in a playlist they didn't cheat in. Your theory doesn't work.

But you've just described why that WOULD work.

"Stop playing" is certainly a good outcome for our cheaters. If they don't plan on playing right, better that they stop screwing the rest of us over and not play at all. I fail to see how having a cheater quit on us is going to affect us in a negative fashion.

"Get a new account" means that they'll either have to go through the work of getting a 2-months free card (Or move to Australia.....), or pay more money for another account. How many do you see going through that trouble? Especially if they're CHEATERS? They aren't going to work hard for very long at re-acclaiming their levels. They didn't do it the FIRST time. Who cares?

"Play in a playlist they didn't cheat in" as in, playing in a playlist that they are appropriately matched in? God, we don't want THAT!!! And so what if they have a high overall level? Let's see them use it for bragging rights, and have some guys talk him into playing some games in their highest playlist. They won't last long that way. I've played against some obviously reformed cheaters recently, as their overall levels were each 10 over my own, yet they absolutely sucked at playing. They got frustrated, and had to cheat to beat my team and I. With the autoupdate, they would have gotten frustrated and QUIT. This scenario does something that resetting stats won't: it frustrates CHEATERS and rewards legit players.

All in all, resetting the stats are going to frustrate more legit players than Bungie thinks. Do those levels mean anything? Bungie says they don't. I say they do. I don't get rewarded for my levels in Diablo II either, but I still get bragging rights, and that's what levels are doing for people right now. If I'm the highest level in a clan, and I'm being ranked as a peon, people know that there's something wrong with that situation. Those levels are important to people because of those bragging rights, and they are the goal in the sky. Players celebrate when they get a new level, and usually have a heightened need to play. I know a few fair weather gamers that will play for the next 8 hours whenever they start going up levels. It's a thrill and a joy for players, not some inconsequential tool for playing against better people. Do players know that's what it is for? Sure they do, but that isn't how they hold it in regard. If Bungie does this, they're going to piss off a LOT of people who will want their money back from the last few months of monthly subscription to Xbox Live, since all their hard work went to nothing. And they'll quit when they discover there is no way to get it back. And before you say "Who cares if they quit", try to keep in mind who they're doing this for to begin with. It isn't for the cheaters, it's for the legit players who are trying to have a good time. If we didn't care about the legit players' experience, we wouldn't even be talking about an autoupdate.

well if you as good as your rank says then shouldn't it be easy and enjoyble to get you ranking back up to what you had it, I mean come on i'm like a border line 19 and I'm willing to do this, I just think that the standbyers should be off the leader boards and the true players get a real ranking

Thawmus i agree with you on some things. first i injoy and get very excited when i get to my next level and i have worked hard to get there. as a level 10 over all i dont really want to have to build back up to that because it has taken about 4-5 months for me to get the that level because i dont live and breath halo 2.........much to my sadness i must go to work and sleep. i will miss the high level and i think that building back up will be kinda mixed. it will be fun winning but then again when i am getting the fruduelnuzki kicked out of me by people that were ligetly level 17-24's. as to the cheaters ......... yah i hate that and i hate getting my arse handed to me on a plater when the cheat. i have even gone as far to get out of games when i have had people cheat on my team. which that sucks. so yah i dont know where i am....to reset or not to reset that is the question. maybe a pole should be taken on what people think........i trust in the end bungie will come through as they have many times.

Something else that people are TOTALLY forgetting is that this Auto-update is going to fix the bug in the game that automatically gives the win to the Red Team in the event of a tie. Hundreds of THOUSANDS of games that were ties have been counted wrong due to a mess-up in code like this, not to mention all the people that cheated to win or keep dropping to get host and red team, for a win in event of a tie. I'd say that at LEAST half of my losses were ties in ranked games, and it doesn't seem fair not to reset the stats once this error has been fixed, which will be in a few weeks.

Why is it that people with Xbox Live get the DLC for free by late summer and us poor people who cannot afford it don't? Is that really fair?

ok i just got the bomb thrown into the corner of the map on midship and i got very angry but i thought instead of swearing like a sailor i would put there gamertags on this website to show everyone who these cheaters are.

ShaDow NINE
DONTFEARMEBOY
FUELEDxBYxHATE

i really hope bungie does something about this kinda stuff because me and alot of other people think this gets very old and its unfair to teams that are about to get a comeback. i got banned for cheating once and i didnt even do anything wrong

sycoduck i see your point but if they reset the stats than that means everyone loses there levels and the cheaters will have the last laugh and they win.

I for one do not think its gonna be fun getting my level back because everyone will have gotten there stats reset. Lets just say a level 25 that just got his level reset starts playing and gets put up aganst a level 8 its not gonna be that fun for the level 8 guy is it

so reseting the stats has good and bad things we all know, but i know we can all agree that bungie should hurry up and put this glitch fix out on live and put an end to cheating

Well my question goes to the match making problems... I know how you said the levels are just there to give you a good match but yet in team slayer (me and my friends being level 12) we end up VSing two level 17s a 16 and a 5 whys that... this has been happening to me alot or atleast everytime I get to level 12 (or sometimes level 11) because right now I'm level 10. Why does this happen?

Reset stats. It's not really going to affect anyone. If everyone is level 1, all the real pro's will carve up early on and get a good lead.

It would also be good if the weapon respawn system was improved. Some levels you play on, players from 1 team manage to get hold of both snipers and then carve up. And no new snipers appear until you kill a sniper so they loose the gun. Really -blam!- for those pricks that camp out and snipe you as soon as you respawn. And as they have both guns, no new snipers appear. But I guess the update will prevent people from camping in un walkable regions of a level.

Peace

one other thing I'm just wondering about. How do people do the cheating? Do they disconnect their DSL cable momentarily to reset the connection to XBL?

I have tried to do it, not for actual cheating purposes, I did it with my cousin in a 2 player match on Live to see what happened, and we couldn't get it to work. But then, one time we were playing a game and this american guy said he was going to do the standby cheat. And he did something and the network connection did that reset thing within the game, but when we came back we hadn't moved anywhere, nothing happened his end either and he thought he killed us. But our score was still higher than his, and we ended up winning that match?

Does different DSL services make it easier to do the cheat? Seeing here in NZ with are all PPOA or something, where I've seen most places are PPOE?

Ok, I have a question personally for Frankie, and I know you're SUPER busy, but why do you never post on the forums 'cept the beginning where you say something super cool and whitty? I know you have ALOT to do preparing for Halo 2.5, or 3, whatever, but I mean, not that busy!

I don't know how you people at Bungie can say that the levels aren't a sign of prestige. That's why people cheat, so they can tell their friends that they're a level 31 or a 40. The levels are what keep people competitive and makes them want to stay on Halo 2 and Live. What's the purpose of playing if you can't show off how much you improve? The levels might not have been meant for prestige, but you guys at Bungie can't honestly say that it never crossed your mind that people would use their levels to compare themselves to one another? That's the reason you have leaderboards in all of the matchmaking playlists. Just get rid of the cheating as soon as you can so honest players like myself (and that's most of the Xbox Live community) can get back to beating up some noobs and increasing our levels and rankings.

I totally agree sycoduck. I didn't cheat for my level, but now its going to be reset because other people did? There has to be some way to stop the cheating while allowing people to keep their levels. That just seems way too bogus. The cheating is getting so rabid that I have to play team training games, and even THOSE aren't safe. This whole situation is supposed to help those who play fair and right, which is most of the Live Community, but instead it's going to hurt a lot of those players.Obviously the rankings mean a little soemthing because Bungie puts leaderboards on their website. If it meant nothing, then there would be no leaderboards. These rankings make the game more competitve, so they are a tool to increase people's interest in live and Halo 2. I wholeheartedly agree with you man.

Frankie, once again you stated the same crap about the cheat updates, and nothing about the maps. You gave us four maps and then went back to just talking about the cheat updates which everyone has heard already. What happened?!

I have just two questions:

1. What does Firefly mean?

2. Will there be a night map or low-gravity/ space map?

Please post new pics for the maps

p.s: What would Mister Cheif look like and or do if he was "violated" during an Xbox Live match?

I agree because for us good people tht got to high ranks easy will get there again and the people with the not so good ranks will be in the same spot. It will be kinda like when the game first came out.

Hey Frankie, theres all this cheating update stuff goin on, and i know its supposed to clear up tons of pock marks in the system, like nuetrogena cleans up an obbsessed gamer's acne crusted face, so i gotta know: will the new code be taking out any of the super bounces at any of the levels? They are the newest element in the game and i would really like to know if they were caught by the network-coding bungie pungie pit team in time to factor them into this update. Also barrier breaking and all that jazz, have any of those fun little glitchies been adressed in the update? Lemme know mayn!

the only people who say that they want the levels reset are the guys who have low levels. anyway, i think every playlist rank should be reset except rumble pit. i have played about 300 rumble pits and have only been standbyed once by a guy named tiny tim.

what sets aside halo 2 from pretty much every other xbox live game is that you can be ranked by levels. lots of people work hard to earn levels, beside s the retards who boost and standby.

another idea: go on the leader boards and look at every high level person. none of their games are legit. ban THOSE people and leave the legit, hardworking guys like me. i finally reached my 16 in rumble pit and i really dont want to lose it. good work with the new levels guys. keep up the gr8 work.

SOLUTION!!!

Let's cut all the existing levels in half, that should please everybody (except the cheaters) ;)

By the way.....clanmatches should be the ONLY matchmade game, where you could bring your friends to help you out.
That must have been the point from the beginning, but now you meet them clans in all team games :(

What about divide all the levels by 3 and reset all the win loss ratios. This works in many ways.
Every one will be playing against people of the same skill, the cheaters that were level 50 will be somewere around 16, so they can't just stop playing and skrew up the leederbords and finaly every ones win loss ratio won't be wrong because.

And leave the levels shown, there is a real compeditive drive because of levels. There is a reason there in the shape of a medal, its like a goal, and it gives you a real kick when you achieve it. With out knowing that your wins and losses are doing something people can't get as court up in the game. There are cheaters in every game, but the majority of them have no ranking system that records games like halo2, cs for example.

Minus the cheaters you have and awsome set up here bungie, rid the cheaters and start again the way it was supost to be the first time. :-)

Something really needs to be done about quitters. Maybe institute some kinda complaint system after cheating has stopped. With the detailed stats it shouldn't be hard to identify the serial qutters. Today in Big Team Battle everyone but two people on the other team quit. The last round was nothing but a fun day at the beach with dune buggys and such, but it destroyed out hard earned lead. Then later on headlong i was left to entertain myself for 20 minutes whilst the two remaining enemies hid somewhere. Needless to say i graffitied phallic imagry and slogans on the insulation.
