Sorry man i don't agree. I think the levels should be reset so we can all get a fresh start, and actually be able to get on and check our wins to losses ratio and knowing it's not a wins to cheated ratio. If the stats get reset you gunna make more people happy than sad....

Does anyone know what exactly is being done to prevent cheaters? The last I heard was that Bungie was going to make it less worthwile and that they couldn't stop people from using standby. So theoritically, cheaters could still use it just to be a**holes!
P.S. Yes these updates are utterly USELESS!! Why do I continue to read them??!!

Are you guys gonna change matchmaking so that people get matched only with people who speak the same language? Personally i hate it when im playin big team battle and someone can't speak English since i can't tell them to watch their back or share vital team information with them.

I dont know about everyone else but i would honestly be very happy if bungie did reset the stats. I am a 14, 15, and a 17 which arent the highest of ranks but they are still pretty high. With that said i would rather it just reset so all the -blam!-s that use standby or boost on clans can have all that be taken away. For all the good people that see ranks as important, they should be able to get the ranks up pretty quickly since no one is doing standby. Please reset it.

I agree completely that the levels should be reset and that they should also be behind the scenes only. By hiding the actual levels from everyone you'll eliminate the pressure from the games, take the incentive out of cheating, and make an overall more fun game experience. We'll still be able to see our win/loss records online and I think thats good enough.

There has been a lot of talk recently about the stats resetting. I personally strongly advise against this. In the weekly update you said "It is not a sign of prestige, but rather a way to match you with players of similar skill." You are only right on half of that statement and you obviously don't have an understanding of your fans on this issue. Yes, I love being matched with people of my equal skill set. However, I also love being a level 17 because it shows prestige in the most geeky sort of way. I know that to some 17 is not that high for some and for some it is that high, however, it took me a great while to get there and I am proud that I am 17. Furthermoe, Bungie made rank even more of an issue of geeky prestige when they put up the leaderboards for the ranked matchmaking.

"There is no magical prize for being ranked in the number one spot, nor is there any cash to be earned for having a higher level – the reward is an enjoyable game." I will agree with you on this also, my friend and I absolutely love winning games by two or three points, that in it self is practically reward enough for our ranks. However, I also love having horns and as stated before, love being ranked that level. I personally, feel that you will loose much online players if you reset their stats and you will have many pissed off people no doubt. You need to ask yourself "Are my actions worth the consequences?" and I have a feeling the answer will be no.

In conclusion (finally, yeah yeah I know), once you've fixed cheating won't the problem just root itself out? I mean when cheaters can't cheat anymore and they play won't their ranking see drastic level drops? Perhaps you should at least wait to see if the problem roots itselft out (which I'm fairly confident it will) before you even consider a stat reset. Hopefully you read this and if you do then thankyou for your time.

I personally don't care if they reset levels or not but that whould suck if they removed levels from sight since i couldn't brag to my friends at school anymore that i could totally pwn them at halo.

eleVader said, "Don't reset the stats, keep the cheaters up high as their punishment, let them get pummelled over and over until they smarten up and level down to where they belong. "

This..........now THIS is a good idea. I likes it.

w00t first post! Now let me read the article...

Alright, being read, this article does in fact present...

Well, enough information for me to be satisfied. For now. But in response to Parson's comment, didn't he--or someone else on Bungie-- say that you wanted to keep Halo 2 fresh for, like, ever? So wouldn't he be contradicting himself?

Hey, if letting Halo 2 go a little stale means more resources and a larger effort spent on Halo 3 er... I mean... "Bungie's Next Project" *ahem* then I'm all for it.

I agree that hidden stats would take the pressure off matchmaking and make it more fun. Even without cheating, my friends are still afraid to play matchmaking lest they lose their shiny levels. Having a big number isn't the point of the game, it's to have fun. And if that number is keeping you from playing, you need to rethink your priorities.

I've been wanting to post on this awhile, nows I feel its important enought.

I've completly given up on matchmaking because of all the cheating. I beleive the stats should be reset after the cheating has been stopped. Also this will be time enough for all the so called "badass" players who have there second account as a free trial to run out and not renew.

I say this because Numorous times I have had a player in a match commit suicide and die as many times as possible, (keep in mind my highest rank was a 15) and then when you call them out, they get on another account and want to go one on one and they are level 22 or something.

Peace

Well i dont know about anyone else but i care about my level i do not think it is for only matching players because if you are not a good level you get made fun of saying "you suck noob" and it took me a while to get a a level good enough so i think reseting the stats would suck badly what would be something good is that the level of your clan doesnt make everyone else that same level that is -blam!- i mean i guess im awsome for beating a halo ring guy eh? when hes reg a level 12

Bungie, you should work real hard to get multiple team games going on at matchmaking before the update. you know everyone wants it, and thinks it would rock. 4 team capture the flag, assault, slayer, territores! thats more fun to me then team skirmish man. think about it. especially with all the new maps and stuff. also, we need sniper games as well.

who agree with me?

Is anybody as confused as I am about the auto-update? If Bungie had put all of their energy into the cheat fix, we could have had it back in December/January. Also, what is the point of new maps if the playlists don't even use the ones we already have (as in Team Slayer, normal weapons, Lockout or Foundation???)? So we get new maps but we are only playing them 1 out of 20 games in matchmaking? It seems pretty obvious that Bungie has coincided the cheat fix and the new maps so they could charge for them. The cheat fix should have been 1st priority since cheating should have been caught BEFORE the game was even released. Why didn't they test the game for cheating then, instead of making us wait through 5 months of frustration and then charge for new content, while all the time telling us in the weekly update that this type of thing requires a ton of testing. They could have realized that in August of 2004 and fixed the game then instead of rushing it. I don't care about new maps (although they look cool and I will pay for them) I just want an honest playing field. Reset the stats AND make them hidden Bungie, it's the only honorable thing to do.

I thought for sure he might mention the other tools out there that allow you to download the stats off the website (there are waaaay more stats than in the RSS feed). I've created a page (that is mostly up-to-date) of a lot of various tools:

http://darkphibre.com/HaloStatTracker/Tools.htm

Since December I've been work on what (I believe) to be the best tool [downloads all stats, puts them in a relational database, stores the original HTM files for posterity/backup, offers over 30 graphs, supports saving CSVs/RSS/JPGs for you & your clan, etc. etc.], but there are a wide variety out there. If you try mine out, please let people know... I've only been mentioning my tool on Halo.org, but I think it's ready for primetime.

dude that is the dumbest thing i ever heard in team slayer you do use normal weapons in foundation, reseting the stats is -blam!- you could be back a level one and get owned by a ligit 34 (probably very few out there) that would suck i say just bann the cheaters and let everyone play like nothing happened

PS: the maps do look cool the day they come out i could care less how much they cost i am buying them all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
