There has been a lot of talk recently about the stats resetting. I personally strongly advise against this. In the weekly update you said "It is not a sign of prestige, but rather a way to match you with players of similar skill." You are only right on half of that statement and you obviously don't have an understanding of your fans on this issue. Yes, I love being matched with people of my equal skill set. However, I also love being a level 17 because it shows prestige in the most geeky sort of way. I know that to some 17 is not that high for some and for some it is that high, however, it took me a great while to get there and I am proud that I am 17. Furthermoe, Bungie made rank even more of an issue of geeky prestige when they put up the leaderboards for the ranked matchmaking.
"There is no magical prize for being ranked in the number one spot, nor is there any cash to be earned for having a higher level – the reward is an enjoyable game." I will agree with you on this also, my friend and I absolutely love winning games by two or three points, that in it self is practically reward enough for our ranks. However, I also love having horns and as stated before, love being ranked that level. I personally, feel that you will loose much online players if you reset their stats and you will have many pissed off people no doubt. You need to ask yourself "Are my actions worth the consequences?" and I have a feeling the answer will be no.
In conclusion (finally, yeah yeah I know), once you've fixed cheating won't the problem just root itself out? I mean when cheaters can't cheat anymore and they play won't their ranking see drastic level drops? Perhaps you should at least wait to see if the problem roots itselft out (which I'm fairly confident it will) before you even consider a stat reset. Hopefully you read this and if you do then thankyou for your time.
