You said that maybe the crystal on sigma was a kind of map to reach, then if there IS a crystal on Earth, maybe it is some kind of map to where the Forerunners could possibly be hiding(if they're alive) or maybe it will lead to information about the forerunner and who they were.

Just a thought that I had that I don't which thread to put on and, since I've been at this one a while...

It says in the Halo instruction manual that Reach is COVENIENTLY CLOSE TO EARTH. if that is the case, when the Covenant destroyed it, wasn't it a bit suspicious that they didn't notice the increased human activity in the area?

first strike seems to contradict this, so i have no idea which to believe.

u guys r so misinfomed. Whoever said the sun is light years away couldnt be more wrong. The sun is a few million miles away. Where light traveling at the speed of light (duh) takes 8 minutes to reach earth.

Assuming that nothing can go faster than light (which has mass) the weapon (if it travels at the speed of light) would take 25,000 years to reach 25,000 light years. Which is more than enough time for a civilization to avoid. I dont think it can go into slipspace since thats kind of folding a paper together and putting a pencil through it. It would totally miss anything inbetween rendering it useless.

oh and when a person travels at the speed of light. Earth which is traveling slowly through space ages quickly from the space travelors point of view. So if you travel at the speed of light from earth, come back you'll return to far in the future.

yeah the sun is 93 million miles from Earth, and it takes light 8.3 minutes to get here from the sun.

Jibberishballr should be shot (no offense meant). the storylinge is one of the things that makes Halo so great to play. if you can't expand on what you've already been told, so that science can eventually, in a very roundabout way (I think this thread had proved that) prove your point, then the universe isn't believable and you can't have fun.

there, i've said my 'don't hate me cuz i'm a halo nered' speech, now let me go home j/k

messed up copy of previous post. i will now replace it with a question:
in any of the books (I can't remember), do we actually find out if slipspace makes us go at the speed of light? if not, practically all the arguments that have been put forward so far are entirely irrelevant

I havent had a read of this thread yet but anyway. The halo has an atmosphere the same as earth's. Now am not sure it is possible (if you are suggesting) for the ring its self to travel through slipspace without the atmosphere collapsing. Unless the froerunners have an alternative methord.
If i am chatting sh.it just say so ok.;)

I'll be on my own side.

unless Halo was enclosed,it would be impossible for it to retain atmosphere

heres what i think (it explains halos and forrunner)

Humans way in the future had very inteligent robots and super inteliggent AI and so on. The humans were expirementing with ways to make you live forever and the flood was born. The Inteligent AI was like HOLY -blam!- there gona kill everything so they go back in time to create the halos to control the flood (also pyramids could have been made since they were very elaborate and even today we cant get in to the deepest parts of the great pyramids so maybe there are flood in there). Well the humans somehow get pissed (i dont know reason for this maybe someone can give me an idea) So they begin killing there robot (forrunner) friends. The forrunner goes back in time and goes to a primieval alien race and educates the more inteligent and builds ships and shows them how to work together as the covanent. Little did they know that they were going to get screwed over by the higher Prophet call again because they didnt know that they were on a "great journey" so they had to yet again fleeto where no one knows

just thought to point out that halo's weapon was so far reaching that it would have no need to travel through slipspace. if it wanted to reach somewhere beyond its 25,000 light year range, it would take so long to travel through slipspace that not only would their enemy probably be dead by the time they reached there, so would they, unless they can somehow live for 25,000 years.

see...that's the point I was trying to make with this thread, but I guess I didn't word it right. It takes 25,000 years for the Halo weapon to fully destroy everything inside of its radius. If you went into slipspace you'd probably have a very high chance of not getting hit by it alltogether. And all those places where they found crystals...I think they are the ones that have the 'Halo sheild' around them, because they were possibly planets that were inhabited by Forerunner.

keep in mind, this is all just my opinion and speculation and all of that jazz.

oh, and to you asses who wanna keep flaming us: I feel bad for you. I really do. Not only have you sunken so low that you're trying to make fun of PEOPLE YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW ON AN INTERNET FORUM, but you also don't have the intelligence and imagination to grasp a really great science fiction story when you see one. You also don't have the intelligence and imagination to recognize the how deep this story can really go, and that there's a million possibilites for everything. Here's an idea...instead of -blam!-ing about us discussing the Halo story and the possibilities that could happen in Halo 2, go play the game or do something constructive with your time.

slipspace makes us go at the speed of light?

slipspace is travel faster than the speed of light from someone with the perspective of being still. Even the person in slip space cant tell they're in slipspace, they're just going from point A to B and cutting out everything inbetween. So a person at point B waiting for the person in slipspace coming from point A (which can be thousands of light years away) sees them arrive quickly (to them faster than light travel)

I really don't think the Forerunner would construct something so useless.

Cortana says it has a range of 25,000 light years, seems a lot of people here think a light year is a measure of time. This does mean, that if Halo's weapon (whatever it is) traveled AT the speed of light, it would take 25,000 years to reach its most distant target. According to http://www.glyphweb.com/esky/default.htm?http://www.glyphweb. com/esky/concepts/lightyear.html
(God that's a long link....)
A light year is equal to 5,878,499,812,499 miles...take that times 25,000 you have the exact range of Halo which is a frickin' bunch of miles. While the original question is interesting, common sense and what little knowledge exists of the Forerunner tells us that they wouldn't design something that didn't work. At some point or another, the Forerunner harnessed a source of energy which is able to travel many many times the speed of light, or Halo would be pretty useless overall. That's about it really.

That's a pretty good point. There ARE things out there that are faster than light, believe it or not. A few years ago a group of scientists were testing out a new kind of laser (I think that's what it was) and it was so fast that it exited the test chamber before it even finished entering...the scientists calculated and estimated the speed to be faster than light.

Sorry I didn't state this earlier, I pretty much forgot about it until that last post.

oh, hey, can I also make a quick request? I don't care about spelling errors and not capitalizing stuff, 'cause I do that a lot, too...but PLEASE no more using "u" in place of "you" and "r" in place of "are"...stuff like that really bothers the crap out of me and it makes everything harder to read. it hasn't really come up much in this thread, but it bugs the living daylights out of me (and I'm sure it annoys other people, too).

thanks!

what happened here, then? i leave for a day (just to remind you i am a NEWBIE!!!) and the thread falls to page 5! we need to get it back on page 1! it's the only thread i can find which you can actually try to prove something, even if you do have to use einstienien theories to prove it! 'can you board banshess?' who cares? wait till nov 9th. one thing you won't find out on nov 9th or any other day is how slipsapce, the original halo and all that works. so let's make the use of it!

plus, how do you get rid of signatures? i'm getting pissed off at seeing 'i don't know how this witty signature crap works' at the bottom of EVERY SINGLE ONE OF MY POSTS!

But also, I honestly don't think the Covenant were on Halo with the intentions of using it right away to wipe out all of humanity. I think they were there to study it so that they could build their own Halo and move it close to Earth.

Most people know the covenant dont make their own technology they steal it from people they have destroyed. Maybe thats why they where on halo

Watch one of the writers see this thread and take an idea, that person could then say WOOT i was exactly on i had it perfectly right...

KFGrunt...thanks, I think...

oh, and to get rid of your signature, all you gotta do is click on "my settings" and then "personalize" and then scoll down and delete your sig...it should be gone after that.
