The thing that scares me the most about this thread is that I understand everything that is being said and how many a counter to certain theories. However I will see how far you peple can go with this one. It seems to be getting rather interesting. *Clap clap.*

Not as bad as when me and a group of 6 other guys (7, what luck huh?) figured out a decent theory on how the heck that little crystal in First Strike really works and how the Chief could leave on August 30th, get off of Halo several weeks later and then go back in time to the 15th........all in all we finally came up with a really complicated answer that I have written down somewhere. But I gave up on the big theory and left as Dr. Halsey so easily put it.

" You were meant to be there in order to get the crystal. You were destined to recieve it. " Basically the Chief is a man of desitny......oh joy.

can't possibly think of anything smart enough to say that would fit in with this coversation.

tell me, casey, did you mean this thread to turn into a debate about einstein's theorey of relativity? if you did, you are an evil person

Yeah because we all know theories are only theories and therefore are meant to be broken and proven wrong...which Halo does a good job of that in its own little universe.

hahahaha no, dude. I just had an idea and was wondering what everyone else would have to say to it, because I thought it was a pretty good idea.

Also, I have an idea as to what halo really is, and why the Covies were really there. I think of it this way: Halo is just a big fallout shelter. Why else would it have an atmosphere capable of sustaining life? If it was supposed to be JUST a weapon, there would be no need for an atmosphere and life-support and all that jazz. So if it went off, people could be living on it while and after it was being activated. Also, this might explain why those weird crystals were found on different planets, particularly Reach. If the Halo weaopon really does work through slipspace, then that crystal would create that bubble around the specified planed, protecting it and preserving life on it. Maybe Reach was a planet that the Forerunner lived on before they all left. What I think is that the Forerunner were in the middle of a war, possibly with the flood, and they set up a futuristic "Missile Defense System" to protect their own in case the Halos had to really be activated (which, they did.)
Maybe the Forerunner have disappeared because there's no more left...they're all dead from whatever war they were in, if they were in a war.

But also, I honestly don't think the Covenant were on Halo with the intentions of using it right away to wipe out all of humanity. I think they were there to study it so that they could build their own Halo and move it close to Earth. Then again...maybe they were just trying to get the Index so they could use it but they never could (after all, there are A TON of Elite combat forms on The Library)...

hmm...ideas?

I like where this discussion is going, though. I'm learning quite a lot about Relativity and the space-time continuum and such.

Fall out shelter? Better idea. Since it was designed to study and contain the Flood, what a better way to study then in different enviornments?

earth could be more than 25,000 light years away or less. we DONT know. its probebly like 1,000 light years away since they were only in slipspace for like a second when they ran from the covies from reach and reach is on earths doorstep.

good idea about the forerunners being in the middle of a war, but what use is a weapon that destroys the users as well?

correct me if i'm misinterpreting what you mean AGAIN?

Earth is not now nor ever will be near the halo, for one simple reason: HALO is a game SCIence fiction, Ill bet no one on this planet who has ever had anything to do with bungie has ever com up with the true explination, so we are dicussing this for no reason lol but great theories non the less. Watch one of the writers see this thread and take an idea, that person could then say WOOT i was exactly on i had it perfectly right...

that's a bit different. don't quite know how to explain it but the weapons there were in the hands of two opposing forces. what i was saying is sort of like america deliberately firing a world-destroying rocket at the earth to destroy the russians.

watch it casey, you may just be onto your own 'hint hiddn in the first halo 2 ad' thread. 65 and counting...

Ya it is funny that we are discussing the mechanics behind somethign that doesn't really nor could ever exist... however it is still fun to hear your ideas.

hahaha I hope I can make my own "hints hidden in Halo 2" thread...that would make me feel really cool...but I really like this thread...the beauty of Halo is how deep its story can go...I really do think it's only limited by your imagination and scientific knowledge.

well, KFGrunt, about having halo be like a weapon for a war...that's where the crystals come in...y'know how in First Strike they get that crystal and it makes like a bubble around them in slipspace? My idea was that they had those crystals on the planets as a shield against the Halo weapon, so if it was activated it woudln't kill off the friendly inhabitants of the planet. So it's kinda like the missile defense system we're trying to get today. In the event of a war, we wouldn't be screwed.

Hikaru, you got a good point. But maybe they Forerunner could've also used it as kind of an emergency place to stay...like, if they WERE in a war, they could've lured their enemies to Halo and unleashed the Flood on them in a last-ditch effort to win.

umm....it does not mean it would take 25,000 years to destry something insode of its radius. the maximum range of the weapon is 25,000 light years. however we do not know what Halo does if it fires some type of energy weapon or how fast it travels. i am assuming the weapon travels in a type of slipspace or maybe hyperspace.

25,000 light years. That means the blast travels for 25,000 years. Light is the fastest thing there is, and light along with the blast would travel to where ever its traveling for 25,000 years. That is how light is measured.

ok i just thought of this. Correct me if im wrong, but earth must have one of these crystals as well.

think about it. the covenant glass every planet they come into contact with. save three. Sigma Octanus, REACH, and Earth.

on sigma, they sent a massive invasion force to cote d azur, where there was a crystal in the museum. the symbols on the crystal were the same found in the underground chamber on reach. which means that the Sigma crystal was some kind of guide to reach.

they didnt glass reach because they wanted the crystal more than anything, and didnt even fire at the humans, for fear of damaging it. and remember, in the chamber were the holograms, perhaps a map of some sort.

and the covenant arent glassing earth, just bombarding it to soften the defenses. so if you think about it, there must be some sort of crystal on earth, perhaps, to expand on the defense idea, one that will allow someone to survive a blast from a Halo.

this is all speculation, please dont flame me
