replying to max 2551:
If you have that much and you want a system that will run anything real fast, gateway's 710G gaming PC comes with a 19" monitor, the FX 5950 ULTRA vid card, 512 MB RAM, DVD R/RW a HUGE fast SERIAL hard drive, and Audigy 2 soundcard. I'd say with the extra money get a gig of RAM and maybe even up the cpu which is a P4 3.2. With that you'll be able to do anything. It is gateway though which isn't like making your own but it's good and it's cheap. I have the Gatway 510 G gamer (budget issues) which is nice as far as the PC goes but I need a better vid card. Once I get my hands on a better vid card I'll be good to go!! Oh yeah and high speed internet. Anyway, that's my two cents if you want fast and cheap. However if you want to learn how to build your own system you can put something REALLY awesome together for that amount of money.

So when are these new graphics cards coming out? and which will be best for halopc?

Can somebody design a pc for me and post it on here for me, remebering I want it calibrated and for halopc, and to make halopc run smooth always not sometimes but contantly smooth. If you can make me a pc where could I buy the replica from on the internet. Thanks boys, later.

I'm finding out the main issues with halo is graphics card related. Just make sure you have a good card and at least 512 MB of ram and almost any new CPU's today will be enough. go at least ATI 9600 pro. I think you get those for around 120. they'll do fine.

1- Dont buy pre-build computer ..... 90% of the time they try to rip you off...
2- RAM = Random Access Memory......its the memory used by the cpu for the currently running applications. RAM can also be shared with the rest of the computer.

K thanx one ben. Well i don't need any perihepals except for speakers and a head phone. Anyway I'm getting a comp in August so it'll be a whole lot cheaper. As far as making my own comp, well my dad doesn't let me so I have to buy it. Anyway in August i'm considering a 3.0 ghrz P4 desktop, 1 gb ram, the new Ultra 6800 from Nvidia will be out and so maybe then the X800 Radeon will be a whole lot cheaper so the X800 radeon. Sound good? Also does anyone have any idea if any new technology would be out at that time? Thanks.

Why do you need to overclock the 9800pro? That should already be able to run anything.

I don't need to overclock it, it's just it has an XT core (R360) so I just thought I could overclock it to xt specs.
Anyway, thanks for the help.

When can i buy the nForce 3 250 or the K8T800 and how much do those mother crads cost?

What if i decide to buy an Abit, what abit should i get?

You can get them now, but they're quite expensive and very new (at least the nForce 3 250 and K8T000 Pro are, the nForce 3 150 and plain K8T800 aren't). As with any new PC components it's usually best to wait until a good few manufacturers have their parts out, so you can choose between them.

If you want an Abit board for Socket 754 (Athlon 64) then there's either the KV8 Pro (K8T800 Pro) or the KV8-Max 3 (K8T800, but with their OTES system, which adds a cooling vent over the components at the back of the board, which gives you stabler overclocks)

Abit boards tend to be quite expensive ($100/$150), but they're rock solid and make overclocking fantastically easy.

A64 are locked......so almost no overclock ....... only by increasing the "fsb".

Athlon fx are not locked but they have the registered ram problem.....and they cost a lot of $$$$.

If it's not to much to ask, I'd like a whole breakdown of good online/offline companies and businesses that sell computers and computer parts.

We seem to be in agreement that the pre-packeged shiz is not worth our time (ie. Dell, Gateway, et cetera), unfortunately I'm stuck with one at the moment... anyways, maybe we could start a comprehensive list of places that ARE worth our time.

I heard mention of newegg.com some other places that I've heard are good:
cnet.com - pretty good site, gives a varied look at several different places to buy the thing you wish to buy. As well as their take on the thing in question. I haven't personally bought anything through them or the places they suggest, so can't say for sure. American site.

asus.com - I'm guessing it's some wholesaler of some sort, so there's a bunch of links there that lead to companies that buy their stuff. Haven't bought anything from them but a friend did and didn't have any problems I don't think. Worldwide site.

Make sure to give a little review to your link, and if you bought anything from them, good or bad. Also what currency/place they work in. Personally I'm looking for a Canadian or American site that can ship North, so far I'm not having so much luck (exchange rate can be brutal).

Ayep.

overclockers sell good parts for good prices, they have a lot of good products and I'm getting my stuff from the UK version.

I am going to get this card. Does anyone see anything wrong with it? It should be able to run Halo on max settings, I was going to get this card but I decided to save money and then upgrade again next year to an R500 core. Have I made the right decision?

The Sapphire Radeon 9800pro 128 is apparently very good for the money (sorry it's a UK site), I might be getting one, or you could get the Connect3D version is probably the same standard. If you want a cheap 9800pro, those are the two I'd go for.

Hey Guru, since your from canada, check out your local Futureshop. Now dont get me wrong, I am just saying, sometimes u can get screamin deals like i did (PIV 2.5ghz 256 pc3200, 40 gig, cdrw, 17inch monitor, radeon 9200se 128ddr, logitech wirelss keyboard and mouse for $750 candian WITH taxes. The closest thing was like an extra $200). Anways, if you have money burning a hole in ur pocket check out www.voodoo.ca Its like that Falcon Northwest company. They are based in Calgary, Alberta. Also there are good sites like www.extremepc.ca, www.ncix.com etc. Go to www.computers-canada.com, they have a listing of practically every computer retailer in the country and excellent prices.

why wouldnt they port it to the PC, i know they did it with Halo 1 because of the online option but so are maney games on the XBOX AND on the pc avaible. i know a lot of people who dont have the money for either a xbox, let alone with XBOX LIVE, or pc so they would miss a lot if they wont port it and if they're going to do it 3 years later the game will be very old and the games competing with it will win so they HAVE to port it to the pc. the XBOX comes first, k.. , dont underestamed the PC BUNGIE dont please a lot of halo fans would be very disappointed if the game would not come to the PC.

ApoX, you know how much the port for Halo PC sucked??? Well, Bungie would have to create an entirley new port for Halo 2. The fact that Halo is still a hard game to create for the PC (so many variables with hardware, software, quality etc). With even more bump mapping and lighting effects, it would be a game only availible to higher end users. I beleive that it wouldnt be cost effective and that most people would be disapointed with the product. It would be nice, but now that Halo 2 is Xbox live enabled, I really see no reason to port the game to PC. It isnt needed. Mabye after like 2 years of it being out they might...

Thanks for the links let me live, I'll defintely check them out when I get... around to it ;).

As for the whole Halo 2 Port debate (I won't go in depth, don't want the thread to degrade) but the game is being released for Xbox... not Xbox 2 so we're talking about the exact same technology that Bungie is bending to there will, not some new fangled stuff that no one has yet. Halo 1 ran fairly smooth on my computer (at least bearable), with excellent load and save times (in comparison to other games), so I don't see how Halo 2 will be very much different. (Unless they drop a bombshell at E3 and make it a flagship title for the Xbox 2... that would suck)

Granted there is bump mapping and all that other junk in, this time two fold, but I was under the impression that bump mapping was meant to alleviate some pains a 3D card goes through. Bump mapping makes things look nicer minus the polygons it takes to make those things look pretty... or something.

Of course I could have the whole thing all wrong and not know what the heck I'm talking about... anyways.

Back on track. I would go to Futureshop, but I'm more and more trying to buy direct, more often then not this results in better prices. Big corporations tend to sell things at a large markup price, or rope you into buying warranty that does absoloutly nothing by flashing some convincing looking graphs in your face *looks at Futureshop*.

Anywho, I might just end up buying from a small time outfit locally, or at the very least, see what they have to offer. This time around, I'm little bit wiser, we'll see what happens I guess.

(Side note: I don't care who you are or what arguement you make, controller vs. keyboard and mouse is a no contest situation for an FPS. Keyboard and mouse will always triumph in my eyes.[what a contest that would make, eh? Keyboards vs. Controllers])

leeboy , please speak only if you have something intelligent to say. This post is mis-informing and should be deleted. The card you speak of DO NOT EXIST. There is no 9200pro. I think that you have the 9200se and if its the case i understand why you are hating your card in gaming. The 9200se is NOT a gaming card...

So please next time, if you have something stupid to say....just dont say anything.
