i agree, my fx5200 ultra lasted for 3 hours, 2 hours of game play then the other hour i had to drive to comp usa and buy a 9800 pro. now my fx5200 is a nice drink coaster for my beer. it does a much better job of keeping watermarks off my desk than playing halo or any other fps. thanks nvidia U SUCK!

Why do the plasma guns look better on Nvidia cards? I prefer the darker colour, why does this happen?

My dad's Geforce 4 makes the plasma weapons look darker, more purple than blue, and it looks better. A radeon 9600xt just looked normal.

Thats caused by the screen....not the video card.

So it looks better on a LCD? I'll mess around with my monitor to see if it can give the same effect, thanks!

i know a lot of people who dont have the money for either a xbox, let alone with XBOX LIVE, or pc so they would miss a lot if they wont port it and if they're going to do it 3 years later the game will be very old and the games competing with it will win so they HAVE to port it to the pc. the XBOX comes first, k..

Sorry to bring more halo 2 into this but if people can afford a graphics card that will support a PC version of Halo2, they can afford XBOX. Halo 2 is way crazier than 1 and to run it on a pc even at minimum settings is probably going to be hard for your basic graphics card. Also, it took 3 or 4 years for Halo 1 PC to come out and it still competes well with the games of today. (if you have a good graphics card). I know the gameplay of Halo is awesome but the eye candy is the icing on the cake. in fact, the cake is at least 50% icing. (but the game is 250% better than others) I'd say halo 2 the cake is 80% icing. (my post is 20% metaphor) I mean it looks so good. mmmmm...icing. oh yeah. Halo PC, get a ATI 9600 XT at least or Geforce 5700 to run good. Halo 2, if you like Halo THAT MUCH like I do (and think Halo 2 is going to be as good as I think...get outa my brain!) just buy the XBOX and as Arnold Swarzeneggar would say, "Stop Whining!"

PS I don't think it's bungies decision if it goes to PC. Complain to Microsoft. **shaking the mighty fist of contempt**

I have another question:

Which pixel shaders do the following cards support, and do they have all the shaders for Halo PC.

FX 5700,
FX 5900,
FX 5950,
Radeon 9800xt

Also, what are the power requirements of the 9800xt? Will my 300W power supply be enough?

Oh, here's one more; is Open GL 1.5 better than 2.0? Or newer?

My buddy runs a P3 650 MHz with 128 meg of ram and a Geforce 4 MX440 64 meg card. Halo runs great on it. A little lag in single player at the checkpoints but other than that SP is fine. He hosts our server and gets no lag 99% of the time. He runs it both with the graphics turned way up and way down. There is some performance difference between the two but not much.

Does the 64 bit AMD proccesor have HT technology? and also how long will this last:
Mobility Radeon 9700 128 MB
3.0 ghrz Pentium 4
40 GB hard Drive
CD-RW DVD drive (maybe DVD-RW)
Dual 512 mb Ram (totals to 1 gb of ram)

Will it last a year or two or three? Before it gets outdated

I am not an idiot... just that X800 cards support 1.5, and the 9800xt supports 2.0.
Apart from that, thanks, again.

x800 support 2.0 like the 9800xt or the 9800 pro.

Ht dont make p4 better than a64 in multi-tasking, it just help them.

so what's better for multi tasking (i.e. hooking up ur comp to two monitors using one for a dvd and the oter for websites or something). Also is a mobility 9700 the same as a normal 9700 radeon?

Coylter, please evaluate this system for me;

AMD Athlon XP 2000+ @1666Mhz
Asus ATI Radeon 9800xt
2x 512mb Corsair Value RAM
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
Matsonic mc8137c motherboard

How long do you think it wil last? I'm thinking of upgrading the CPU and Motherboard next year to a 64bit proccessor, and compatible motherboard. What do you recommend?
This isn't limited to just Coylter, anyone can respond if they know their stuff.
