I've been around for the best way to go with this and this is my plan: I have $220, im gonna get a Radeon 9700pro for $158 and i'll have $62 left. Im gonna save up until i have $105, and with that $105 ill get a Pentium 4b and 2.00 ghz. Is this the way to go? i dont really want to get a new mainboard with new ram right, altough my next major upgrade will be to a AMD motherbaord

That sounds about right... should run Halo a lot better than you are now! Don't forget that often times when you are upgrading stuff that isn't way old, you can sell it for at least a little bit of cash on E-bay or something... sometimes a nice way to pick up a few extra bucks towards the next thing, I've found. :) Good luck- let us know how it all turns out!

Subject: My computer sucks

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

Also, Is there anyway short of opening up the case of the comp and checking the chips to tell what type they are? I know you can go into the Device Maager but I dont wanna screw anything up. Also can I have an answer to my post on the bottom of page 8...

What about the X800XT? that's the fastest card.... You don't need PS3, it won't get used for a few years yet, newer ATI cards will be out by then which support PS3. I don't know US prices for them, but over here they are cheaper than the 6800ultra.

I'd get a 6800gt for 300-400 and overclock the hell out of it (to ultra level and more...) !!!

About the x800's : Those card are fast but the nvidia one get boost from the upcoming directx 9c and not the x800's. The 6800 get boost from using sm 3.0 optimised games and you can acheive much more complex effect with sm3.0 with faster speed. To me the 6800 seem like a more advanced card than the x800's wich is an overclocked 9800.....Ati also CHEAT with their newest card by optimising their anisotropic filtering and you cant disable it. Nvidia CAN also optimise but you can remove it and its "off" by default. So any benchmark with ati when anisotropic enable are VERY biased and should not be considered. One site did manage to remove the optimisations and the speed where much lower than the 6800's. Ati can come back but the first gen card arnt very good. By the way i would not buy any first generation cards......

What he is saying is don't but either a 6800 OR X800, buy a cheaper card, like a 9800pro with 128mb. You may be lucky like me and get an R360 core (oh, btw coylter, I got a 9800pro R360 256mb hynix memory, it's an XT!) 9800pros are cheap, and excellent. I'd wait, like coylter says, for 2nd gen 6*00 or X*00 cards if your wanting a powerful card.

A ti-4200 has no direct x 9 support, Sure you can install the software but you will not be able any new feature. This card play halo well in 800*600 and even then it lag a lot at some places. 800*600 is reduced quality.
