I dont know if if this is the right place to post a question like this, as this isnt exactly a tech support line, but I'd really appreciate some help or advice....

Heres the problem; whenever I play Marathon Infinity and I pass the first level, I get an error saying theres a problem with my map or save file. This usually causes my computer to freeze.

Ive tried erasing the Marathon∞ folder (and the prefs file) and reinstalling it from the Action Sack CD. This does not work. Interestingly enough, using the Apple+Option key cheat to get to the second level gives me no problems.

Marathon 1 and 2 have never given me problems of any kind. The computer that Im using is a Mac, G4 400mhz, OS 9.7 ( I think; I am sure its not OS X)

This really sucks; I want to play through Marathon again (without the level cheat)

Thanks in advance and any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks goweb, but Im still not clear on this. What exactly does Aleph One do, and how would it help me?

Newer Macs apparently don't run the Marathon series very well. Plus Aleph One allows you to effectively play the original Marathon with the M2 engine.

The problems only seem to be with Infinity though. Marathon 1 and 2 run perfectly and have never given me problems.

If theres a better place to ask questions like this, please let me know.

Try Infinity with A1 anyway.

AlephOne is a open source version of the marathon 2 engine - it is an replacement for the marathon 2 or marathon oo application.

Apart from greater platfrom support, A1 also lets you use OpenGL for a better renderer, TCP/IP for networking (cross-platform) and increases the limits on marathon (more textures, particles, monsters etc). The best bit - 2 button mouse support!!
