Ok, no flaming about how no one knows what wil happen but Bungie, this is speculation and opinion.

First Strike leaves off with MC, Linda, Fred, Will, Sgt. Johnson and Cortana heading back to Earth after having just annihilated all of what Covenant fleet had amassed at the Unyielding Heirophant (500+ ships).

So, where would you want to start playing Halo2? I ask this because I highly doubt, in fact I'm just about....yeah I'm positive, that the New Mombasa level isnt the first level of Halo 2, seeing as the Covenant are already in full force again and attacking earth. So what do you want the chief to do first?

i hope that you start in a ship going to earth then some covies board half way throught the lvl and at the start of the lvl you can go in to a room that you choose to go in for training with the new things in the game and the old( for newbies) the whole lvl is dramatic and telling you whats going on and when covies come in you have to kill them all before the ship lands but they are mainly grunts it would only be a small lvl.

sorry it sounds alot like PoA.

Even though it does sound like PoA I still like the idea. I think it'd be cool to have an intro level similar to the one in Halo, and even though it may not make much sense with the current situation he was in I think it'd be cool to start with no weapon, like you did in Halo. You'd have to get to the armory or take a weapon from the bridge, it'd just be an interesting homage to the start of the greatest game ever made, before Halo 2

I think that Halo 2 is going to begin with the master chief and company arriving after the invasion has already begun. the covenant have been forced to throw every remainging ship in their fleet into the battle, but they are severely understrengthed becausee of Operation First Strike. So they have even less ships then when they invaded reach. you have to remember that the hundreds of ship in orbit around reach were destoyed when the Nova planet killers went off.

So lets say that the covies attack earth with 150 ships, less than reach. and every ship in the UNSC fleet has been assembled. but earth has 2 orbital supermac platforms (they we're building the 2nd infirst strike) so the majority of the covenant fleet cant get close enough to earth. So only the smaller ships can jump underneath the mac platforms to unload troops. And this is where the chief comes in. I think the first level will be boarding and disabling of those ships.

yea i was thinking somewhere along those lines.

or whatabout, i dunno, a flashback lvl. like chief is sittin down and has this flashback to cote d azur. it explians how to do the new as well as old stuff, and then when you blow up the city with the nuke, you snap out of ur flashback

i think that the first level is u on a covy ship. remember the first trailer that was released for halo? it showd mc jumping out into space and landing on a covy cruiser.

"Help Help I'm being repressed! Come and see the Violence inherent in the system!"
"Bloody peasant!"
"Oh did you see that? you saw him repress me?"

i agree with canada769, it'd b cool if u did ur training on the ship ur on, then jump. what if when you destroy the cov armada at whever at the end of first strike, there reinforcements and the attack is already under way?

You might start out on that space station that MC was on in the trailer. You could repel borders and then jump out and fall down to the Covie ship like he did in the trailer.

I think it would be cool to start with no weapon but be able to punch enemies or maybe have only a knife for the first part of the level.

i dont think that the covies get on the ship that mc starts out on cause 1. if there were then y in the tailer did mc grab a battle rifle? and 2. if mc was fighting the covies on that ship he wouldnt just b walking from room to room like he did in the trailer, he would b crouching and looking around corners to make sure he didnt like walk into a ambush.

In the very fist trailer you MC free falling right into a covie flagship,so you should start by sabotage the ship or exit it

I think the first level will take someplace between the end of First Strike and the first ever Halo 2 trailer. Why? Because in that specific trailer, Master Chief was alone, which means that something had to happen since he was seperated from his fellow Spartans... or maybe it'll just be a cutscene.

There are no irrelevant quotes of historical figures here. Neither will you find any links, chain posts, memes, clan advertisements, self-promotions, or the tiniest of ASCII pictures.

So go away.

Why does everybody take the trailer so literally? I'll bet that its only purpose was to get everybody excited about Halo 2 (which it did quite well).

Well this is my theory....

There might be a brief cut scene showing either the end of first:strike or everyone in the gettsberg on their way back to earth. My guess is the first level, your either on earth's surface or in a oribiting space platform with the other spartans getting eqiuped with your new armor. And you go through the regular intro thing like you did in Halo 1. Then an annocement tells you that the covenant have arrived. You have to haul ass and begin defenses. Then you get seperated from remaining spartans somehow....

I think the Covenant will be getting their butts handed to them by the SMAC guns and Human fleet and Sigma Octanus IV (I beleive it was that one) style and instead of fighting in the air they try and land troops groundside.

i'd have to say earth has even more than that. Reach had 20, so Earth, as the capital planet and the last stand, should have at least 20, probably 30, but no more than 50 (that would just be ridiculus).

i think that halo 2 should start either with the events of first strike, for those n00bs out there who don't have the sense and/or free time to read the books, or it should start with the trailer. i think the cheif will infiltrate the covie ship, steal a dropship, and from there it begins with the battle for earth.

sorry, what? if you mean which one had super MACs, it was reach. and both reach and sigma octanus had troops landing groundside. in fact, nearly every planetary engagment had covenant troops landing groundside. don't know why, since they could just glass the planet, but maybe it has to do with some religous idea that they must personally destroy the humans.

what about MC being in some vehicle (longsword, seraph, etc.) and simply legging it through a number of pitched battles taking place above and around Earth between the Covenant and Human fleets. The SMAC guns would make for some big explosions.

Thinking about it, maybe not. An opening level that consists of you avoiding plasma and explosions would inspire confidence in those who are looking to play the greatest FPS ever.

Stick with the ARs, Bungie,

lol. i wouldn't complain about having to fight in a space battle in the beginning, but i seriously don't think so. the cheif is a ground troop first, not a pilot.

I think something in space, close to Earth, would be a good place to start the game. Mayby on that station or something. After the introduction there could be a cutscene, in which the Covenant make their assault.
If you are on a station or ship, it would be cool to hear reports from the space-battle (like in the announcement-trailer). Another thing would be to actually see the battle through viewports on the station/ship.
I think I read in a weekly update that they had developed a way to use a rendered 3d-video as a texture, in which one was a space-battle (I think). Frankie made a point by saying you could watch the battle on a grunts eyeball.
