You miss my point. Installation is a subjective word. You can use it to refer to a building, a computer, even a new kind of paper trail in your work environment. It has a broad definition.

Sometimes when 343 is talking he may be talking about the "Halo Installation" then at other times he may be talking about the "Flood Containment Installation" then Cortana refers to the "Control Room Installation".

Perhaps 343 was referring to the Flood Containment Facility when he was referring to Installation 04. It could be that there are dozens on installations on the installation.

He's absolutely correct - I guess we all assumed to much...If you step back and look at it from afar, we really don't know what the Halo(s) are for. Ooo, this shakes the foundations a bit.

If you read Johmpa's post he said "If the flood has already escaped onto Halos surface and the other installations, what could they escape but Halo?"

I'll go further. Break down Cortana's tirade and I do mean tirade. It's all a jumble.

"You have no idea how this ring works, do you? Why the forerunners built it?"
--Cortana knows but she doesn't want to tell you :)

"Halo doesn't kill flood, it kills their food. Humans, covenant, whatever. We're all equally edible. The only way to stop the flood is to starve them to death."
--Cortana is listing what you already know about the Flood. Still nothing new yet.

And that's exactly what Halo is designed to do; wipe the galaxy clean of all sentient life.
--Here's the clincher. Halo is designed to wipe the Galaxy clean of all sentient life. The fact that it also starves the flood is coincidental. She doesn't state that that was the reason why the Rings were created. We have leaped to that assumption.

" You don't believe me? Ask him."
--Oh, how I wish I could...

Maybe it does both. The forerunner may have created them and then contained them but also didn't want them to die. The ring contained them and starved them so the forerunner would be safe. The forerunner also wanted them alive so it had halo designed so it could selectively feed the flood. Feed the flood one planet at a time, but guilty spark goes skitso and wants to kill everything.

That was much of my pet theory on the Forerunner-Covenant relations thread just this morning. I think the Halos are something like Noah's arks, each responsible for it's 25,000 LY radius.

People don't give much thought to what the Library is for either.
