If you are interested in modding, please read this post

Sorry, I don't know to lazy link.

First it would be wise to get halo ce; go to:

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/halo/downloads.html

and look for halo custum edition and halo editing kit and install them

I bet you already know how to play custom made maps, but you don't have a clue how to make them. I'll take you through on where to get the appropriate programs.

First of all, you need the program that lets you create mods.
Here is a link:
NOTE: you must make an acount first, it is not possible to download this program anywhere without an acount (well, at least of what I know of)

http://dlx.gamespot.com/pc/halo/moreinfo_6094495.html

After you make an acount, click on "DOWNLOAD NOW" and wait a moment and it should start. Then, after it's done, unzip it wherever you like.
And open the program.

Before you do any modding it would be wise to back up your maps in case they become corupted. To do this: Look in your halo directory. Go to your desk top and click the "My Computer icon" and look in the following directories:/ drive>program files>microsoft games>halo.

When you reach the halo directory, go to the "MAPS" folder and copy everything in there, press back. And in the halo directory (or wherever you want) make a folder called "BACKUPS" and paste the files you have just copied in there.

Here is a brief tutorial on how to make a simple mod
At the bottom left go to, open map. Go to the c:/ drive>program files>microsoft games>halo>maps.

And open the map file "Bloodgulch". If you did this correctly, a bunch of tabs should show up. Scroll down on the list to a tab called "PROJECTILES". Open it, and look in "SHOTGUN", or whatever gun you want to mod. After you select it, there should be a window at the top.

Click on a black box called "SWAP META FILE". You will see a list, select anything you wish. NOTE: whatever thing you select will reflect whats on the map; (e.g. if u had selected the needler, the shotgun would shoot needlers rather than shotgun shells.).

Then click on "SAVE META FILE". Then if you did it correctly, you should have your first mod. For your mod to work, first exit the modding program, start up HALO,
NOT HALO CE. Go to multiplayer, play Bloodgulch and you should have shutguns that shoot whatever you have just selected.

If you want to make your own maps; heres how, I'll show you where to get the program and the tutorials:

First you should Download 3ds max 7.0:

At the following web adress:

http://nct.digitalriver.com/fulfill/0049.017/download/2005-24 63cc2deac81035ba86f1f1c347473d-3

Download 3ds max.

Install it and blah, blah, blah.

Note: if it expires and you don't want to pay for it later. There is a free ware version of 3ds max called "Gmax" but it doen't quite live up to 3ds max.
If it expires, heres where to get gmax.

http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax

Anyway, after thats all taken care of. If you have already opened the program but have got no idea how to use it. Here is a site to where to get the tutorials:

NOTE: for your computer to read these programs, you need a program called "WINRAR".Heres where to get it:

http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

Now after you've found a way to download irt and install it. Heres the lin on how to get the tutorials.

http://www.halomods.com/index.php?topic=Tutorials

Download all the tutorials. And save them to your comp for future reference. You should notice that when you try to open the tutorial files on your computer this Winrar thin shows up. Click on the name of the tutorial you just opened. (it has a windows media player icon).

After you manage to start the tutorials. Than your good to go. The video tutorial will take you through on how to make a map for halo.
NOTE: You will need a program called paint shop pro for the first tutorial. The first tutorial is done on paint shop pro than the rest on 3ds max. Here is a link to get paint shop pro.
NOTE: you need to make an acount to download it.

http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Corel3/Trials /Login&pid=1047023911984&cid=1047024437292

Thats about all I know of.

But just in case some people don't know how to actually play downloaded maps heres how. NOTE: if you already know how , than don't read the rest.

I assume you have already downloaded halo ce. So, first you will need a site on where to get the maps:

www.halomaps.co.uk

Download a map, after your done downloading it, copy the map file.Go to your desk top, go to the my computer icon. Then navigate to the following. c:/ drive>program files>microsoft games>halo custom edition>maps.

And simply pase the map file in there. Thats all you have to do. Go to halo ce and got to multiplayer and wall, you can play the map.
NOTE: The site called: www.halomaps.co.uk aparently seems to be down, so if it doens't work go to another site to get maps.

And for idiots who don't know the difference between halo and halo custom edion....

Halo: lets you play halo without any custom map. But people occasionally make mods.

Halo ce: lets you play custom maps.

And for those who were still patient enough to read all this. Heres a treat. I'll give you a link on where to get the following. A program that lets you play in 3rd person. And a trainer that can let you freeze time, invincibility, super jump. etc...

To get the 3rd person thing, go here:

http://files.halomods.com/viewtopic.php?t=20586

and click on the link. NOTE: first start halo, THEN open the program. After you have opened the program, you may wish to customize the keys to your liking. If you don't know how to work the program, figure it out.

The devtrainer, heres where you get it.

http://files.halomods.com/download.php?id=26492

NOTE: Again, you have to start halo first before opening this program. It may be confusing on how to use this at first, but it'll get it eventually. And this program will ONLY work if your the host of a game. It won't work if you join a game. It may aprear on your screen as if the devtrainer works. But it doesn't. It was made like that to prevent cheating.

Oh, also, these to programs MUST be running the whole time for it to work.

And I think thats all know.

Sorry, I didn't know how to lazy link.

Hope this helps.
