Alright, this did not happen until after I installed my new video card (ATI Radeon X700 Pro). Halo run fine, but every time I try to load up Halo CE, it encounters a fatal error, saying it failed to initialize Direct3D and that the DirectX hardware acceleration may be disabled. I have run dxdiag.exe and everything is in the clear. I've searched similar topics on the web, but no one has yet to reply to other people's questions with a viable solution. I have the latest version of DirectX and I have confirmed that hardware acceleration is enabled. I can't even get CE to start up by forcing it to run in safemode, so I'm stumped. It worked before I installed my ATI, but now it just seems hopeless...

So do you mean I should completely uninstall and reinstall the ATI Display Driver?

Not quite, joe - go to ATi's website and download the newest drivers for your card and install them - let me know how that helps.

Heyyo,

Yes, after installing a new vidcard, it's always good to uninstall your last drivers, and reinstall new ones cause your drivers were setup for your previous videocad.

After that and it fails? you might need to get that sp2 fix since that vidcard's newer, and possibly 256mb, but I have no idea if you have sp2 or not..

Unless he has a mac he better cause sp1 is unsafe now that microsoft released all the fixes they made.

Oh, well I already uninstalled my previous drivers and installed the new drivers from the ATI CD as soon as I replaced the video card (which, by the way, is in fact 256Mb of video RAM). I will look into that downloading new drivers from ATI right now, but in case that doesn't work can someone give me directions to this sp2 thing (Chewy: I don't have a Mac, no worries)?

Service pack 2 for windows XP, if you don't have XP, don't worry. You can get it from microsoft's website but they probably already annoyed the hell outa you with their auto update a while ago. If you go to computer properties it will tell you if you have it.
