is there anyone here who plays console games, but enjoys halo CE immensely on the PC?
i am a big halo 2er, but recently i have gotten very sick of it. actually i really think halo 2 sucks. SO, i went to play halo CE on xbox over xbconnect, but my xbconnect is having MAJOR issues. How does the halo experience translate to the PC? i know it is good, but i guess my question is this: can I, a lifetime console gamer with a lot of experience with halo CE and zero experience with PC online shooters, do well and have fun with halo for PC? Thanks!

Halo PC is a completely different game than Halo XBOX period...what problems are you having with XBC? It does lag, but thats because it's a 4 year old game that wasn't designed for the internet.

no it doesnt lag, it worked fine for about a year till they made me update my version. everyone is having tons of little problems with it. With me, the download screws up with my TCP/IP addresses and shuts off my internet connection(?). I have no idea how to fix that.

The lag on XBC isnt unbearable, i had a lot of fun. But really, how hard is halo PC to pick up? Does your computor have to be a gamer-equipped comp to run it well?

k 3 main things with Halo PC:

#1 make sure ur comp. is pretty new or at least updated (hardware-wise) especially and i say ESPECIALLY!!!!!! in ur graphics card, if u don't know what this is consult the "Buyer's guide to Graphics Card" thread under the sticky "The Guides:: READ ME FIRST" or consult anyone who u know that knows good info. on computers. Because if u don't have a good graphics card then Halo PC won't look good and won't play good, but if u shell out to get a good card Halo PC does and will look better then Halo Xbox

#2: Make sure ur internet connection is AT LEAST a low cable connection (again like mine) Even broadband and especially dial-up is a big NO-NO for Halo PC,even with my connection there is quite a bit of lag in normal servers/games. The netcode for Halo PC is very demanding of high bandwith so unless u want the MC to go across Blood Gulch in about an hour then i'd upgrade ur interenet connection

#3. And this is important...expect quite a lot of laggg. Yes Gearbox did a poor job with the netcode for Halo PC and we have to pay the price by lagg, although u may have experianced lag on LIVE or even Xbox connect if u see really bad laggg on Halo PC do not quit on this game in frustration, there are times that u won't even be able to move, u get ejected due to bag laggg, u won't be able to connect to games, and ur screen will have a new frame every 5SEC.!!!!!!! K this is rare, and as long as you're choosing good server you'll be fine for the most part. But still be warned there is quite a bit of lagg in this game, quite a bit more than other PC multiplayer games as well as LIVE and Xbox connect.

and finally just get used to shooting with a mouse and using a keyboard. At first u might be a bit rusty, but play the campaign (yes it's all there) (oh, especially on Legendary :) and you'll be beating bad people in no time. Hope to c u online :)

oh ya 1 more thing: don't be surprised if people kill u with 3 headshots with da pistol in about 2 sec. cause this happens a lot of the time and no, they're not l337 H4X0rZ. k with PC shooters using a mouse an a keyboard it is VERY easy to aim well and kill within seconds. U will see some VERY good people (like me, hehe)

yah, i love the keyboard and mouse. the first time i tried it was about a year ago, and within a week i was pawning like a pro. ;) but if you find you just suck at the keyboard and mouse. they sell xbox controller adaptors that go into your computer.

this is the adaptor

Hmm... 2 decent console vs PC threads in one day... It must be a conspiracy...

Anyway, if you play the campaign on legendary (expect to get Pwned on legendary), you'll get the controls quite quickly. Then if you go on the interent and work a little, you'll get from noob, to decent, to xpert. It just takes time and effort. If you're willing to give of those two things, it's a very enjoyable experience.

Have fun,
Yout3

This is probibly off topic, but the other day, while i was playing halo 1 on the xbox, i got to the part on the pilar of autum, where the 2 engeners are running from the covies. I managed to save them, and one said, thank god, we actually lived. Well i hit the melee button, and he died. Then the other guy beside him said, plz kill me, i don't wanta get killed my the aliens. Has everyone ever head this before, cuse i thought it was weird, cse i have had the game for about a year and a half, and beat it on every difficulty, and have never heard of the suicidle enginerr

Ach! Was ist los?

Here's my take on the main differences, having played both Halo XBox and Halo PC...

Performance: Halo XBox generally runs better than Halo PC, unless you have an absolute top-notch system or are willing to make significant compromises in the graphics and sound departments.

Graphics: Better on a PC, if you've got a card that can render them.

Controls: Much easier on a PC.

Multiplayer: Halo XBox has co-op mode, but Halo PC has online support and new weapons, vehicles, maps, and gametypes. Halo PC is, however, extremely laggy over anything slower than LAN; play at own risk.

As I see it, one could go either way. I'd play both, but I no longer have an XBox.

oh, and don't forget about halo custom edition. There's alot of cool maps, like pipedream. it has alot of custom guns and vehicles. There are also trainers and Alldev that make it better for making movies than a console.

i personally think halo CE is the way to go if you are gonna play halo 1, like what obaten posted about pipedream and all the other cool custom stuff CE has it is pretty damn good.

Dude...how have you been playing Halo CE without playing Halo PC. Truthfully Halo CE is Halo PC just playing with maps made by other players who love the game. I dont see what the problems are here.

Netcode is fixed implies:
CE > PC
