Some days the forums are choked with locked threads that have offensive rubbish in them, or personal attacks in the title (usually about mods). Just locking them, leaves them visible to everyone, while it takes ages for them to slowly sink in the forum. Meanwhile the pin head that posted them gets off on it, and we all have to navigate around their handy work.

Why not just delete them entirely?

Sometimes it is best to leave a headless corpse as a reminder to others that there are consequences for misdeeds. Plus, people love to rubberneck and see "what they did to get locked/blacklisted". I feel that in some circumstances it has an educational component.

Vlad the Impaler had a similar practice, with similar results.

Thanks Recon Number 54, I can see that sometimes would be worth it.. Though just now I was on Zanzibar and 8 threads on 1 particular page were locked..

Also, don't let anyone know this, but I have to tell you in the absolute privacy of this thread (he says tongue in cheek), I kinda feel sorry for the same guys that continually get slammed with the mindless cheap-shots from what are essentially inarticulate losers.

I don't think need to see that very often to know it's a coward's game.

Of course, Mods, in my personal opinion, should post their reason for locking the thread (well, unless a good samaritan member has informed the guilty poster of their wrongdoing..).

We don't like making a new post to explain lockages, since that bumps the offending thread, which just adds to the damage. If someone hasn't already pointed out that the thread was in breach of the rules (which is rare because of all the awesome people here), I like to just PM the guy who posted the thread with an explanation.

But then, we don't prosper from your amazing wealth of knowledge!
