I got to thinking. If grunts use methane breathers, what would happen if the Chief were to puncture a methane tank with a well placed battle rifle round? I came to the conclusion that you would have yourself one large walking bomb. Imagine nailing a grunt in the middle of a group of grunts. I think you could save yourself some ammo in the process of saving earth.

Yeah make's sense. I dont think bungie has bothered with that though. It would be vry kool, but way too easy.

Well im not sayin this would be an easy task, i think it would be fun to do if you could do it maybe every 1 in 20 chances.

You know what would really make me laugh. If when you shoot the methane tank the grunt would take off, flying everyware like a gas canister when hitting the presure thingy.
That would be really funny...

what if they are bulletproof or storng enough not to get punctured fully and highly presurized so then if you hit it the methane would go out quickly and be almost inert or if its not just methane the have in the tanks like methane in combo with some other chemical and that gas doesn't burn but Grunt lungs can separate it like we do because we breath oxygen but remember the #1 gas in the atmosphere is Nitrogen

those tubes could be made with the hunter shield alloy so yes

And remember i also said it might not be just methane so even if they were

Ok then the plasma granade will blow the grunt to dust, that would give the heat from the granade chance to pass through the breathing tubes and into the tank(direct heat to the methane) . (if that makes sense am not sure)

you can prevent that by making one way tubes and insulators

Lol we can do this all day you know. And the force of a granade at point blank could crack almost anything. Even plastic tubes':D

i know so heres how it goes down to stop this:

Grunts carry two tanks ones empty and its for when they exhale. The other tank has methane in it but its not just methane its methane in a compound with another gas and Grunt lungs can seperate the two and use the methane and exhale the other gas. Therefore even if you did break the one with methane in it, it doesn't explode and the other one has virtually nothin in it.

On a similar vein, I always assumed the methane would be contained in either a getlatinous or solid state and some sort of mechanism would draw a small amount of that inert material and convert it into methane.

Otherwise, the Covenant would just leave the Grunts at home to do menial labor. It'd be too dangerous to keep them around.

i think that there was an occasion in one of the books where the cheif shot a grunt in the tank (don't ask me where, i'd have to go reread the books). the methane was lit up. i don't think that grunts should explode like a grenade, but make it like a sorta fun thing, like, if you hit the grunt right on the methane tank, he lights up, and runs around. that would be hilarious. oh, and to make it even better, give the grunt's special lines when this happens.
