I say buy into the future like back to the future sept its buy to the future. Ya oooooooooooook. Whats your budget? I would iterate the importance of buying the right motherboard. If you don't, you're screwed. Get one that has lots of space for RAM and PCIe slot (maybe SLI cause I saw some cheap ones) and make sure it has the right amount of pins for the processor your getting and the one you will want to get in the future, unless your getting the 64 fx. Thats expensive though $1100 canadian.

i'll get 350.00 bucks (only 13 yr old) or something. I just need a new mobo and processor. I have a 6600 gt that'll sell on ebay, then i'll have the money to get a 6600 gt for pci express.

If your only getting a new motherboard and proccesor, make sure that the RAM is the right type and you have the right amount of power for it.

You might be able to pull off a 64-bit Athlon with that - look for a mobo & cpu Combo. Tigerdirect sells good processors - I try to stay away from system pulls (tigerdirect's are all new). Lemme know if you need some more detailed advice - I've built a few comp's and I usually keep on the up and up as far as prices &retailers go. pricewatch is a good site if you don't already know about it.

If you get a mac (though i highly doubt you will), sell you video card, and get an ATI Radeon X800 Special Ediiton.

If I had one of those...

If youre a real scholar, planning on becoming valedictorian, get a laptop. God knows how much that helps.

If youre gonna use a computer just for games, for a bit of schoolwork, but mostly games, get a pc.

Heyyo,

WHOA! HOLD UP! I'm amazed you guys havn't called him on this.. don't sell your 6600gt for a 6600gt pci-e. It's a WASTE of cash. there's barely any diff between agp and pci-e for now, but the price gap is bad, bad, BAD! keep the vidcard.

Mobo? get like, an asus a8v Deluxe:
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=12639&vpn=A8V% 20DELUXE& manufacture=ASUS

and for cpu? amd since that's what this beaute of a mobo supports.

I suggest this, AMD Athlon64 3000+:
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=12842&vpn=ADA3 000BIBOX& manufacture=AMD

Now those prices are Cad, so Usd it should be near that $350 price range. ;)

Thats $350 total atm. Don't expect too much of a drop in prices.
