Why would you disassemble your Xbox, to clean it, if you know it voids the warranty?

*Ahem*

The only catch-all I can think of would be over-heating, but that would be from modding... Try moving the box to a cooler area and see if that helps.

I think you should go with the thirty dollars. If it turns off randomly, and the power button won't turn it off, you're probably looking at multiple problems with the console.

As I said before, because no one else would do it(even though when I bought it they said they would if it needed cleaning). Besides, how will anyone know that I took it apart? I don't think its overheating cause it doesnt get hot in my room but you could be right. If all else fails, I'll take one of my $720 checks I get each month and buy a new one.

I know this doesnt have anything to do with Bungie but I am desperate. For some reason my xbox keeps shutting off.I have the replacement cord. I'll be playing for about 10-15 minutes and the xbox will just shut off, the light on the console flashing orange. The only way to turn it off is the unplug the power cord. I recently took it apart to try and clean it(i kno, void the warranty blah blah) and might have fried it or something only because I went to my local electronics/game store and the only thing they said was "trade it in for a lousy $30, its better than nothing." I got my xbox used.Any help would be appreciated.

Mine does that too. Sometimes. When is does do it, It makes a wierd beep and sounds like a dying robot. Is it one of the Xboxes from when they first came out by any chance? Mine is. It also sometimes randomly signs out of live and wont detect my eth. cable. I think it might be from overheating. If it is on the ground, on a carpet, it probably is. If I put it on my wood floor ever, it doesnt do it.

The light flashing orange and green or just orange?

Either way -- try cleaning all contacts and making sure you have a solid connection with all external wires -- Cat-5, power and AV.

Then call 1-800-4MY-XBOX. (That's an"O" in XBOX, not a zero)

Tell them the symptoms and find out what's causing it -- Insist that they tell you what the signal light means before you send it off -- in regards to your symptoms.

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

Wait a month. Keep playing and doing everything the same. In about a month the problem will go away. Worked for me.

how would they know you took it apart? well there is a silver sticker on the bottom that you had to punch your screwdriver through, thats how they will know, and taking it apart to clean it= bad idea, blow it out with compressed air or something else,

That sounds like what happened to my friends, the contact from wear the power came through the Xbox and met the circuit board had broken off, and only when pressure was applied to the cord would it make contact and turn on and if you touched it, it would shut off. Eventually it ended up arking bad one time and burnt a hole through the circuit board and I had to take it apart and solder a new contact to the circuit board.
