With all the hype surrounding Halo 2, which I think is so far well deserved, atleast a hell of a lot more deserved than Kill Zone; both Microsoft and Sony have a big hope for Halo 2. Microsoft's big hope for Halo 2 is that it will not only boost the console's sales, but also put in on the map as a bonafied system which great games could be made if the hardware is taken advantage of. I am not implying that great games have not been made, but the hardware is something that is not taken advantage of often. From my personal perspective, it would also solidify it as the multiplayer machine. Halo 2 is a game PS2 fans have been envious of and many hate it bluntly for prooving the xbox's greatness. For Microsoft Halo 2 is an epic event that will take the Xbox all the way to the next generation of the Xbox succesor.
Sony's great hope in Halo 2 is that the game will be a sack of crap with a nice bag. Sony is hoping that Halo 2 will be a garbage game in a pretty package. This would work great for them as disappointment will eat us all up. Though not likely, the reason for wanting Halo 2 to fail is simple. When Nintendo 64 had 007 Goldeneye, it had sold 7 million units world wide, and was the number one rented game for months. Though First person shooters are not popular in Japan (Mario was in first place with 10 million units sold), it shows what a good first person shooter could do in a world wide perspective. Indeed it was a sting to Sony, because many were finding out that multiplayer fun with 4 people was treasured many a parties. But it also showed the Playstation's weakness because the it did not have the power to run such a game. The failure of Halo 2 would coincide greatly with Sony's Halo killer, Kill Zone which comes out winter 2004. Which I think for one will not be a Halo killer because of the Playstation's hardware limitations. But also because the people who are making Killzone just aren't Bungie, so of course they are going to lose. As for Sony Halo Killer is a very big implication, so I expect Killzone to fail more than I expect Halol 2 to fail.
