i tried this and it didnt wrk when a message came up htat asked if i wanted to update it, it took me back 2 the dashboard and it didnt do anything and i felt like a clueless nub cake plz help i dont like nubishness

It could be a number of things.

Account problem
A corrupted existing update (you have to delete the cache)
Network problem (modem or router)

Scroll till you find Dr WE1RDs thread and carefully read it all. If you still have questions, ask there, that's what I advise.

It'll sign you out, then sign you back in. Keep in mind that the game is an original Xbox one so with that being said, you won't be allowed to read or send messages, check friends list, etc. When you press the middle button, it'll show a message that you cannot access what I've just mentioned. I can't help but recall when I played Halo 2 last week, and it was like everywhere I went, a bad kid wanted to have a doubleshot battle lol poor kids didn't have a clue I could quad shot ;>)
