I play Day of Defeat... good games. My grandad is a WWII vet. He was a B.A.R. man, and then he got shot in the battle of the bulge. He lived and still lives today. He's realy cool.

M1 Garand, baby. Such a cool gun...plus, it was the papa of the M14, the coolest looking rifle ever made.

Oh, hey, I play this sport called Airsoft. For those of you who don't know, it's a lot like paintball, 'cept for the guns don't look like f'ed up plumbing projects...they're modeled after real guns instead. And they shoot 6 mm plastic pellets. Anywho, there's a WWII Thompson M1A1 Airsoft gun...

Me: "OMFG, Dude... wtf!"
AbolitionofMan: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to betray you."
Me: "That's the 4th time in this game alone!"
Chris: "Third, besides he had the flag I was trying to stop him, how was I supposed to know you were there."
Me: "I said, 'I got the Flag, don't shoot.'"
Chris: "Well those Wraith shots take a while to reach you."
Me: "You were right next to me, I had killed him and a minute passed before you decided to shoot."
Chris: "Hahahahaha, yeah... that was great."

Anyone of you ever fire any of those weapons? The M1 was one of the best weapons we ever made. Durible, realible, yet very heavy and with a VERY strong recoil. It feels like your shirt is being ripped off, (or your arm), it's so strong. One hell of a gun, not like the crappy recoil on the 16. Don't get me wrong, it's a good rifle and all, but it only fires 5.56mm and the recoil is not to strong, the round's are accurate, but, if they could've made a newer version of the M1, with it's take-down power and reliabilty... I'd jump at the oppurtunity to use one.

It is legendary, ask any gun hobbyist. And the M1 was the weapon most favored to GI's. The Thompson is pretty much like an automatic pistol, it's a Submachine gun yes, but it fired the same rounds as a handgun. The M1, now THAT could take down a target in one shot.

man...I wish I was 18 and had lots of money so I could buy one. Plus, I love how the clips (yup...they can actually be accurately be called a clip in the m1's case) pop out of the reciever after the last shot with that PIIING noise.

Well, this is mildly off topic- but Stormtroopers aren't just from Star Wars. They were the elite supersoldiers of Germany in the first world war.
Artillery would lay down heavy fire in the middle of the night, as the Stormtroopers addvanced through no-mans land, and they would hide behind the lip of the front trenches. The artillery would shift, and the ST's would drop gas grenades in the trench, and storm in with gas masks killing everyone in the trench. They would continue doing this to all the trenches, until they had wiped out half or more of all the trenches. Remember that the only communication was wire- which was fragile- and messenger/runners.

At this time, we had no gas masks to combat gas. All the british could do was pee on rags and hold it to their faces- the ammonia bloked the gas. An unpleasant part of war- but whatever it takes to not only win, but survive.

A defining weapon of WW1 was the newly introduced machine gun. That would be the coolest weapon from that era.

Jesus..... Dont any of you young yanks see? Guns arent cool! GUNS KILL PEOPLE!!!! Jesus christ, no wonder there is so much gun crime in America. I would guess that all of you wouldnt find guns cool when there was one pointed directly in your face by someone who was about to shoot you. Medal of Honour may make out war to be this cool adventure but it was anything but this! I personally have never experienced war and i hope i will never have to. But from what I have learnt, heard and seen regarding war, it is a nasty horrifying time for those on the front line. I can assure you that if someone is killed in war, they dont just 'restart' at the beginning of the level.
I can assure you that my dad who is currently in Basra would not find the weapon of a hostile Iraqi 'cool'.

I play DOD and MOH and COD and almost any WWII gameotu there. :)

Stalin, yes war is an awful horrible thing. But why I play war games is to get an adrenaline rush, and sometimes to get even a sliver of what it might have been like back then (WWII) And i know video games aren't even close to what war is really like but ya. Also it is also a great way to take out your anger, especially on pixilized Naz,is and aliens :)

Rock on violent video games! But down with WAR!

Yes. I agree with you in some ways. War games are fun to play. I play them. I do get the rushes, and in some games (and films) it is possible to get a sliver of a feeling for what war may have been like, although without the fear of death, fear of being captured and tortued etc. Anyway, i kind of went off what my initial point was. I mean, does anyone else find it strange that guns are considered 'cool'? Or that it is possble for someone to have a 'favorite' weapon? These things at the end of the day KILL AND MAIM people. They leave children fatherless or motherless, they cause families to suffer immense grief. Guns, or any other type of weapon, are not cool, they are barbaric and monstrous creations. Sure i play video games, i shoot guns, i might think some of the the things they do in the gameworld is cool, heck i may say to one of my buds 'Yeah there is this cool weapon in this game ive got'. But the difference is that is in the game world. I know that in reality all i am doing when i am playing a game, i am sending messages to my Xbox, much in the same way i am sending messages to my PC when i am typing an email.
You guys are talking about real life weapons as if they were still in the video game. Which you shouldnt be doing. It is irresonsible and wrong. Yeah sure, filling a grunt with needler rounds in Halo is cool. Killing a German on Call of Duty is cool. What isnt 'cool', however, is a real life bullet tearing through the head of a small child. I think it is this final statement alone that sums up why you shouldnt think guns are cool.

The M1 Garand has to be the coolest WWII rifle I've ever seen... And according to Medal of Honor: Frontline, it packs a big punch...

They did make a newer version, it's called the M14. Basically, they changed the magazine to a detachable 20 round box mag, and changed the entire mechanism around a bit. Still, if you want the firepower of the 7.62x51mm round you could just use a FN FAL or H&K G3 (I know lots of folks who have G3s). That kind of power is unnecessary these days and that kind of recoil is unacceptable in a battle rifle, though. My personal favorite modern-day rifle is the H&K G36KV (with the XM8 accesories and collapsible adjustable stock).

Anyways, on-topic:
My favorite guns from WW2 are the German MP-44 (the grandaddy of the AK) and the German MG-42 (the baddest and fastest machinegun ever made). Honestly the only American guns that I would've preferred over the German counterparts in WWII are the Colt M1911 pistol and the Thompson M1 sub machinegun.

Guns are cool as long as you aren't shooting someone or being shot at. Why can't it be cool to take a rifle or pistol out in the backyard and shoot cans and jars? Baseball is fun too, but not if someone cracks you over the head with a bat. I play lasertag, airsoft, and paintball, and i go to the shooting range once a week with real guns and i think it's cool. I have never shot a living thing with a real gun, and i never would.
