Hello, I posted a topic asking people to check out my portfolio site a few weeks ago. I've added a customized M6G (The Pistol) to my site and would like feed back on it. I used projection mapping, which is the process of making a high poly model, then ripping the normal maps off of it to use on a low poly model. Edit : I also used 100% hand painted textures for this model.

I change quite a few things about the gun, this came from looking at real real guns, and from wanting to change it up a bit.

You should join bungie, this is the kind of stuff they like (i think)
you probably have a better chance at joining than i do, im going into the field of game design.

What program did you use? i just may be interested in switching from design to art if it is fun enough.

I use 3ds Max, and Photoshop. The gun is 100% hand painted textures, which i should probably mention on my site. They didn't have any strictly design classes at my school, I would love to do more on the design side of things. By design I don't mean draw concept art, but instead to actually come up with cool ideas. For the most part that is the job of seasoned vets, to walk around and tell people "that would look cool with...".

exactly, what i was hoping i could do was be the guy who goes around and says things like "that should have 10 more bullets to balance it out" or "that class of enemy should spawn with either this this or that"
Basically help with the feel of the game. which also means i have to vigorously play test everything so that i know what it needs.

I know what you mean, I had a class like that, the teacher owns a flash game based studio and works on stuff like that all the time. It's all about keeping the player in a flow state of mind, like when you play a game for a minute, then look up and it's been five hours.

I don't want to break rules by getting off topic, but if you want to talk game design feel free to message me on here.

I wish Bungie had game tester positions open.

yes, the gun is very well made, i like the intricate designs on the handle. and how it looks aged a bit.

Earlier in the month when I introduced my web portfolio this is the plan I posted.


My plan that eventually leads to World Domination goes as follows...
1. Apply to companies in Washington, including Bungie
2. Hope for the best, plan for the worse (plan B)
3. Plan B, Apply for game tester positions like crazy in Washington
4. Test games for a few months, while 3d modeling and adding to portfolio
5. Apply Apply Apply, Move on up
6. Gain knowledge from others as I move up in the industry
7. Become part of a company that will some day dominate the world
8. Plan for a Zombie invasion, survive zombie invasion, rebuild...

Thanks, it's always good to hear stuff like that. Personally, every time I finish something new I feel like all that came before it is obsolete. With every model comes knowledge, which leaves me feeling like "If only I knew what I know now, when I did that other thing.". I'm ready to do a whole projection mapped level, but I'll probably settle for a vehicle or something organic for my next model.

That is an amazing rendition of the Halo CE pistol, that looks great. I would love to see a full portfolio of all the Halo related art you have made.
