Deidg, think about it from a different angle and you'll see that some of the vehicles have been "powered up" and some have been "powered down".

Human vehicles like the Warthog and the Scorpion, though they've become destructible, have actually been powered *UP* In Halo1 a single guy with a pistol shooting you in the hubcaps could take you down in seconds as could a single rocket. Now, you can almost ignore small arms fire except if they have a good line of fire on you specifically. You can even take a rocket and keep on driving. You just can't do that in Halo1.

Think of vehicles as an extra block of health or armour that covers you as you rush in and rush out and you'll get what I mean. Vehicles are like overshields that move very fast.

The Ghost is the only one that's really taken a hit. Before it was indestructible BUT unlike the Warthog and Tank you didn't take damage if someone shot the Ghost. That made it an indestructible shield that you could place between footmen and yourself while driving it. Still, they've made up for that by making it faster, more maneuverable and a lower profile. Now it does what it's supposed to, take you into battle. It was never meant to be a frontline battle weapon which is what it turned out to be in Halo1.

It (the ghost) was abused in halo 1 by far, but now you can blow it up withou wasting more then a clip.

Well, it seems I've managed to change your mind on the human vehicles.

The Ghost from the example you saw was sitting still. If it was used properly that would be a different story. The new Ghost can move at about 60MPH, more if boosted. Your tactics should be, simply, not to get hit. You should be making multiple sorties at full speed, softening your targets, distracting them and pestering them until more powerful vehicles or infantry arrive to deal with things.

If you're a shotgun, close range, specialist the Ghost is the answer to what you've always wanted. Go flying at your enemies, full boost at about 100MPH. You break into their lines, disembark and start causing havoc while your allies advance.

If you're the type who used the Ghost in Halo1 to coast up infront of your enemies and stand and shoot (and most Ghost lovers do this incessantly) then you deserve to go down. The Ghost will blow up underneath you, you'll probably live though your shields will be down and you'll have to take cover against the secondary explosion. Now, if you used your Ghosts properly, took a few strafing passes at him before standing stock still in front of him you'd kill him easily.

It's all about in how you use what you've got. That's realism. The soliders in World War 2 didn't use motorcycles (what the ghost really is) for full battles. They used them to harass infantry from and lend chase to other vehicles.

Vehicles will not be obsolete, heres why
1) Tracking Rockets are avoidable, see Stabby Eric's post, he played Halo2 at E3 this year and he said "The targeting is very gradual and if you cut a corner in the vehicle when the rocket is coming there is a good chance it will miss you, or do minimal damage"
2) Boarding will only happen at slow speeds, as long as you dont slow down when a person is right on you, you wont get boarded!
3) People who say the Ghost has been powered down, I dont really agree. Firstly it has the boost feature, secondly it has a higher rate of fire. So one tactic Im gonna try is freezing the guy in place with the Ghosts guns then boosting into my paralyzed opponent! Although it is weaker than the Hog, it is faster and more maneouverable!
4) It appears to me the Hog can take a fair beating before it will blow you to pieces. And at least you wont die when a guy shoots the chasis with his pistol and somehow you take the damage!
5) It'll also be nice to see that when you die taking your hog to try and capture the flag that the enemy team wont be able to stock up on vehicles!

Yes, powered down, but only in the respect you can't stand in front of an opponent with a shotgun and laugh at him as he empties the tube right into you at point blank. As for the weaponry, some of the e3 guys said that the ghost fires faster but each individual blast is weaker. I don't know if someone was pulling my chain or not.

As i was stating before, the added maneuverability more then makes up for the fact it has become destructible provided you used it the way it was originally meant to be used. I prefer the Ghost this way and you can bet I'll be using it quite a lot.

so in the long run, if you use it correctly, it all evens out.

Bungie is the king. If they'd had more time with Halo1 we wouldn't be having these discussions. Halo1 was shipped unfinished.

veicle boarding will mainly be used when you are right behind the worthog or sneaking up on it boosting should take care of the ghost except for the fact you are moving in a strait line and if someone is right behind you with a rocket your dead as for tha tracking rocket you have to keep them in your sights for a sec or so then hope they don't make any sharp turns to avoid it and after that you have to hit them again to kill them so viecles are still a very important part of mp halo

one more thing on boarding you must realize you will me saying that is so cheap when you get boarded but your friends on the other team will say that the same amount of times

If a noob is running you over with a vehicle, then you are a noob yourself. The last time someone ran me over either by an elite player or whoever has been...umm...can't remember...you HEAR the vehicle coming, and then you get out of the way! simple!

chill out dude

overall, it seems like the vehicle related things are barely related to halo 1. It's like a brand new system.

 • 07.09.2004 10:34 AM PDT

and predator, chill. This is not a forum for bragging and insults.

veicles are pretty inefective if it is just the driver in a worthog usually the driver will die if he is alone if you get fun over it is your fault not flameing just don't understand the reason for the arguement

An entirely new system, if you get bumped by a slow moving ghost you take no damage. If it's only moving slowling it just takes off a chunk of your shields.

Apparently vehicles take damage from bumping into things.

Physics rule.

Apparently you can use Hogs like bombs... Get em in the big wind generator in Zanzibar and if they drop from high enough they explode on impact with the ground! So you dont even have to drive em to use em!
I also cant wait to see some of the newer more inexperienced players (;-)), going up to a blown up Hog and getting torn apart when the ammunition detonates!

 • 07.09.2004 10:55 AM PDT

ah, so i cant drive off cliff and drive on like nothing happened?

 • 07.09.2004 10:55 AM PDT

i loved doing that in Blood gulch...
