Also the Shotgun according to IGN is supposed to be awesmoe with the new physics sending enemies literally flying when you hit em with a buck shot up close. Also it's suppose tear up the enviroment.

Thats just unrealistic, a gun that sends the guy getting hit flying would also send the guy doing the firing flying (equal forces crap, i.e. a gun that could send a guy flying would have awesome recoil which would knock the guy shooting off his feet!). I read a ballistic expert saying he was standing on one leg with a flak jacket getting shot by a rifle or somesuch and he merely wobbled a little!

The covie carbine and the covie sniper are one in the same I stated this a week or so ago in a thread like this one and the guy was arguing with me until a mod came on and said I was right OXM made it confusing they did make it sound like they where different but in fact they are not. another thing I found wierd was the fact that the Halo manuel says that the shotgun shoots slugs but if you shoot a wall it looks like buckshot.

That's just a rifle not a eight gauge shotgun firing a buckshot into your chest at point blank range!

Look at the Bungie.net article on the OXM renders it descripes the carbine as a covenant version of the battle rifle if you cant believe bungie your just too ignorant.

you think the laws of physics change for different calibers??
True a shotgun blast at point blank would knock you back a little (a shotgun does have a fair kick back on it) but it wouldnt send you "flying"
Of course I could be wrong, I do not know much about guns, I am however certain that I read this correctly

Listen dual wielding two SMGs is cool does that mean it's realistic no but it's freaking cool same with the shotgun if it sends enemies fllying (which was probably a exaggeration by IGNs part) then so be it cause it rocks. And as I said it was no doubt a exaggeration and really just means the death animations for the shotgun are awesome.

Let's get back on subject let's discuss a few of these specualated weapons I mention. The magnum, the slug thrower and the flamethrower.

OK I just wanna say, how is dual SMG's unrealistic?
The battle rifle and covie carbine are going to compliment the sniper perfectly think on this;
Your a sniper so of course you have your sniper rifle in your primary weapon slot, allowing you to take out enemies at long range, and if your good enough extreme ranges.
Then you have your BR/Covie carbine in reserve, you can zoom in and take people out at medium ranges without giving away your position with the contrail! And then if people do discover you and try and take you out up close unzoom and wipe them out with three shot bursts!
I think I've found my new favourite combination!
Also I would like there to be a Covenant counterpart to the Sniper rifle as when I play as an Elite I dont plan on using human weapons! Im sticking in character!

no, a shotgun would send you FLYING.
someone mentioned earlier in this thread some magazine cover art thing, with a new weapon. can you tell me which cover art this is?

Here's the point of this page. If the bullet had enough momentum to hurl the villain across the room when it hits him, it must also hurl the hero off his feet just as badly. The total momentum of the hero-bullet-villain collection before the gun is fired is zero. After the bullet hits the bad guy it must still be zero. So if the bad guy is flying across the room in one direction, the hero must be flying across it in the other direction at just about the same speed!

I got this from a physics misconseption page just so I felt better in myself!
Here is the address if you do not believe me http://drumright.ossm.edu/physics/gun-momentum.htm

but lets say there was a way transfer all the momentum into the villian don't you think they would have figured that out now

only if they know how to defy the laws of physics, and Scotty can't even do that

what? if you mean now as in 2004 we havent worked it out, otherwise the page would say so!
If you mean now as in 2552 then maybe they have, dont see how though!
Anyway I dont want this turning into a physics arguement I just wanted to show you that I was right!
I can suspend my disbelief for Halo or even films, I just dont like to see people go flying when it just doesnt happen!

i know but it would be cool/hilarious if you hit some one in the air with the Shotty, RL, or SR and they did filps

I hear ya there! Unrealistic phisics are the best kind!(if you ask me the entire existance of aliens that can speak engish, grunts, is a little on the unrealistic side.)

I wish Bungie had implemented ragdoll physics.
I swear, I could just watch an Elite fall down a cliff over and over again for hours.

Let's get back on subject. I am quite suprised usually talking about the battle rifle as if it was replacing the AR and the magnum pistol topic stir up flaming but this time it hasn't.

I'm not sure if this was updated on the 7th, or if I just never noticed it.. Taken from bungie.net/faq

Q

What new weapons will be available in Halo 2?

A

So far there have been a few new weapons revealed. The Battle Rifle is an evolved version of the original assault rifle and features increased accuracy, a scope, and a slower rate of fire. The SMG (Sub Machine Gun) is a rapid-fire gun that trades a high volume of bullets for decreased accuracy. We have also discussed the Covenant Carbine - an energy based sniper weapon. Also, as you now know, players will be able to wield the almightly Covenant energy sword.

Of course these are others, but we can't tell you about them yet.

But go to the Bungie humpday article it clearly states the Carbine as a version of the battle rifle. Also look at the Halo evolution video and the pre xbox screens the Carbine and the sniper rifle are completly different looking guns. God it's not rocket science this should not be a debatable subject! Any gun with a scope is a form of sniper weapon isn't it?

nah, on the halo evolution video, when they said covenant sniper, they were referring to a gun the looked a lot like the current covie carbine. i think the carbine is similar to the battle rifle in that it zooms. the way i've understood things, it's gonna be slightly more effective than battle rifle in longer range stuff, but less effective in shorter range; and less effective at extreme ranges than the human sniper rifle.
