Well yesterday, i downloaded halo CE off one of gearbox's forum links. After downloading the game, it gave me a big selection of maps to download. Well... I downloaded some of them, but i didn't know where to put them and everything i tried resulted in failure. So i deleted all the new maps i had downloaded so i could start from scratch.

"BTW, my problem is that i saved the map files but i didn't know where to put them and so... none of them work when i play Halo CE.

If someone could help me out "and it works" it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm just guessing here, but why not look under the directory structure for the CE you installed, see where the map files are now and put the new ones in the same place? Worth trying in the absense of more expert help.

First off, are you aware of what file type you were downloading? Are they RAR files or ZIP files? It never hurts to provide that kind of information when posting. Either way, they're likely to be compressed. Close Halo CE before adding new maps to your game or else the new maps wont show up until the next time you run CE. Assuming you have the correct program on your machine to uncompress the .zip or .rar files, unzip the maps into your C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\Maps folder.

To test whether this has worked or not, fire up Halo CE, enter multiplayer, start a LAN game, browse down the list of maps all the way to the bottom. The custom maps will be listed below the "classic" maps.

If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask. And be sure to tell your friends about Halo CE, too! :)

Dutchman,
It sounds like you're doing everything correctly. Note that map files will have a .map file extension if you've done everything correctly. If you unzip them to the right directory (posted above), you should be set to go. You are using Halo Custom Edition, right? The new maps won't work with the regular Halo that you install off the CD. Doublecheck that you're unzipping them to the correct directory and are using the correct Halo version.

Ah-ha. That's definitely the problem.

See this for a FAQ on what Halo Custom Edition (otherwise known as Halo CE) actually is. Essentially, it is Halo Multiplayer that has updated netcode and rendering functions, giving you smoother gameplay. And of course, then there are the custom maps that you've heard so much about.

Halo CE is free for those that have a valid CD key from their PC version. Go here for a nice mirror of the install file. Once you've installed Halo CE, repeat the above steps for installing a map and you should be golden. Have fun, and if you have any further questions, let me know. Also, let your friends know about Custom Edition if you have fun. :)
