even if they had different cores, i think what he means is if you oc a 6600GT enough it will perform just like a 6800GT...

but i hate nvidia anyway, so i don't really care...

okay ,, but wat i heard was 6800GT is a kick arse card with( a little expensive though) 16 !! pipelines , much more than 6600GT which only has only 12 (!),,,

So my question is ,, it has a superb core which is more sophisticated than the old 6600GT , but still u can manage its speed by just OC it ?? !!........

I'm not positive about the GT but I think you can unlock the pipelines. Can anyone confirm this?

It's like my X850XT. I just overclock past the PE standards and viola, X850XT PE and I saved $50 (well not really, still spent a buttload).

The concept is usually for a processor, sometimes a video card. If there is a huge price gap, like say the $100 one between the 3200 and 3500 A64 processors, get the 3200 and OC it to at least the 3500 and you'll have saved $100.

Heyyo,

You can OC a 6600GT to the clock speeds of a 6800GT, but of course due to core differences, the 6800GT will preform slightly better, especially at higher quality settings cause of the increased amount of pipelines.

Well, OC-ing can save cash, but lowers the lifetime expectancy of the part you wanna OC, and will make any warranties for it invalid.. so I suggest ocing only after your warranty expires so at least you get some of your cash worth before you might fry it for ocing too much. :p

ummm i wouldn't overclock any graphics card unless your CPU case is very well ventilated or your card cant really do anything any more. Because it will screw up your card....eventually.
