With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

I'm 15 and, just like Atsumi, I consider myself illiterate. I try to make my posts as gramma checked and misspell free as possible.

Typically I would ignore something so absurdly stupid. But I couldn't stop myself from highlighting your (A) Complete lack of literacy, (B) Complete lack for understanding of the word "contradiction," (C) Complete lack of spelling know how.

Ender, he (assuming its a guy) did say he was illiterate... Hence the reason for his bad spelling and grammar. You only restated what he said, but in more words...

Being 25+ doesn't mean that you don't belong

I mean, tell me the average age of the people making the game; really now...

Thank you, I almost went into Hulk Mode.

No one ever said someone 25+ years of age didn't belong. In fact, if you had actually read a few of the pages of commentary by yours truly I already apologized for the way I worded the poll. So, get informed, then type (not the inverse).

I will not say whether or not I am 15, but I will say that online, it honestly doesnt matter.

I'd have to disagree about your age online not mattering.
If circumstances were different (say, if we were in a chat room and someone tried to set up a date to meet you (with less than honorable intentions), your age would be of intense importance to, say, a police officer). Given that that situation doesn't apply, however, I will agree in this instance. You don't want to give your age, it doesn't matter.
Posted by: Texas Ben I was not offended at the suggestion that there are people better at writhing/thinking/expression/whatever, I was simply stating that you saying all adolescents are poor writers is an incorrect generalization. while that does hold true for the most part, I wanted to make sure you understood that it is not an absoloute.
but... I agree... most of the people on these forums need to use better grammer (I remember the good old days before the change... when bad grammer meant puncualization and capitalization errors), but making a thread about it won't help the problem, because if they aren't smart enough to use proper grammer, how can you expect them to be mature enough to correct mistakes others point out to them.

If, as you say, "making a thread about it won't help the problem," let's look at what the possible reasons for the problems (bad grammar, lazy spelling, and a notable absence of critical thinking) here.
Is it due to bad, or worse, a lack of parenting? Incomplete education? Poor motivation or laziness on the part of the offender?

Whatever the case, can the problem be fixed? Or is it something that will have to work through a generation or two (or, God forbid, three) before finally crawling back under its rock to hibernate for another hundred or more years?

Let those who wish to post their ages do so and be blissful in their ignorance if they wish it.
Bring your critical thinking caps and continue the discussion.

Well, I am 12 and I do not think of myself as bad at spelling/grammar; I usually consider myself as more mature then most people my age. Generally, the people I am friends with don't 'discover' things by themselves, I always have to tell them about stuff so they can actually do something fun. I told them about Xbox, Halo, Tribes 2, Books, Macs, I gave a friend my reservation for Xbox Live; and have already advanced in computer programming. So don't discriminate against me. Also, Homestarrunner; the entire grade knows about it now and it's not funny anymore.

Oh yeah, w00t w00t.

We mean no discrimination, noanswer42 (well, I speak for myself, but I think not all of us do).
You are among a very non-posting minority on the forums here. That, or if they're posting, they do so and don't seem to be 12 at all.
Don't be offended. It's rare that those of us who take proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation for granted see someone young (to us) writing legibly and thoughtfully.

Thanks for addign to the discussion.

Hell Starter says, "...I could probably out spell and out edit any one here..."

Ok then... let's edit your post. :)

Before:

Thats right! Im a 15 year old and I know that I could probably out spell and out edit any one here, especially the person who created this thread! I already have a 300 page Halo novel that I alone have edited and goes up in the fan fiction area at HBO! Now you just may think we are a bunch of kids but we know out stuff! I know almost anything about Bungie and Halo! Even Halo 2!

Now it may not be perfect, but it's better than it was. Don't forget correct punctuation and word usage is a part of editing too, dude.

I'm just bustin' your balls, dude. Don't take it personally. Hell, I don't use correct grammar or punctuation all the time either. I just had to do this since you said you could out edit any one... errr.... I mean, anyone.

Hey, LeMort... Get out before you get hurt. You are 12, therefore you are under the advised rating for this game and shouldn't be playing it. Secondly, this game is designed, made, produced, etc by people who are over 15, so unless you don't want to see any other games ever made... shut your hole!

I shall stop before I bust any more bubbles...
By the way guys... we seem to be going a bit skew... perhaps back to the problem at hand! I swear I will snap on the next person to just come in and state their age though!!! *angry face*

16, hoping to leave school and do a 'Games Software Development' Course at University this year - depending whether i get the exam results or not, which i get on 10th of August.

Avid games fan since i can remember.

Grammar and punctuation...hell i hate english but the easier one can understand another the better they can get along and communicate.

I'm not one for the whole cell/mobile phone language but acronyms i'm not so bothered about.

I guess how we choose to depict ourselves is up to us.

Halo 2, November 9th - all i know is that it will be the closest thing to Heaven on Earth... or Hell depending if your on the other end of my Plasma Sword...

dumbass. why the hell are you here? technically you shouldn't be playing this game unless you are eighteen or older. and guess what? you are not. just because you get your ass handed to you on a plate everytime you play is no reason to diss the older and more experienced players here. and besides, the age of halo players is not the issue; the issue is spelling and semi-proper grammer. and frankly, neither of your's was that great.
oh and back to the age issue. not only is it built for people 18+, but many people I know personally over your arbitrarily chosen age fifteen play halo and are not anything close to "lazy butts": my cousin who is in college to become a nuclear physicist(21)... that takes alot of work... is he a Lazy butt? I dont think so. Another is my uncle (43)... I'm not sure what he does, but it has long hours and in addition he is a navy reservist. and did you read that bungie story awhile ago? U.S. troops in iraq play Halo and Xbox live during their down time... whether you like the iraq war or not, there is no way you can accuse hard-working military personell of being 'lazy butts'.

He's right. The minimum age where I live is 16. Alot of the cooler people are around 18, they still have jobs, wives, whatever. It just shows the level of your maturity.

I am also regreting to say that i have never noticed how great of a game creator the Bungie comapny has been. I am sure many have had the same fault.

I think it's the parent’s choice. I’m sure they won't be committing crimes because of this game. At the age of ten I enjoyed the slaughter of many aliens. I still don't like starting fights. I think it's mainly being able to distinguish digital people from human beings.

Urgh all these youngens....and whats with the really youngens playing the game. They shouldnt have access too it *waves finger at stupid parents for allowing them access too things they shoudn't*. So much for age ratings on games *sigh*.

someone said it earlier.. and they nailed the coffin shut with this answer "We are just to lazy to fix the errors we make." thats the way it is.. maybe the creator of this thread has a very small IQ to not think of that possibility on his/her own?? It's common since man.

What would you guys do if said I know what the Halo2 main menu looks like and I have proof?

Hey what’s your problem, I knew I twelve year old that knew the true meaning of ass kicking in halo. You have no right to get on his case for bad grammar, because you can’t tell me that Texans have good grammar. As for you Lemort try going to word, type your post their and use the spelling tools to help you.

Quite honestly it all comes down to laziness plain and simple. most people do know the fundamentals of writing from atleast age 10 on up. some excel at it others do not. yes its tiresome to read posts that are a nightmare to comprehend but even tho they use online style of writing you can sometimes see through their meaning and can tell if its actual intelligence behind it or not. there have been many comments about age on this topic ranging from grammar to even old people being lazy because they play games.. well I am such an old person, 33 actually. and I am far from lazy, actually i just like to come back from a long day in the woods working and play some Halo. and even tho i have a degree in criminal justice which takes a crap load of writing classes i choose not to write in formal ways because in that manner i am lazy.
so if you feel im immature because i choose to write in my style then so be it.. thats your choice but dont expect others to conform to your ways just because YOU feel its best.

just my two cents,

Thanks to the_Ender for bringing up a good point and a good question. I cannot bring myself to drudge through these or any other game related forums it seems. The blatant mistakes and sheerly stupid posts dominate nearly every topic. The first page of this topic looked surprisingly decent to me as far as moderately intelligent thinking and acceptable grammar and spelling go. If most posts were made by such members, I would not get a sick feeling in my stomach when I occasionally take the time to read something here. Here's my deal. I'm a lazy 15 year-old kid. I'm lazy because I refuse to read absolutely dumb posts. But laziness is no excuse for talking like you're brain is the size of a chiclet.

It seems every time I make a post, I am complaining about how stupid most of the posts are. What a waste of time.

 • 07.31.2004 1:28 PM PDT

Gilbey13, don't feel bad about the time wasted. I'm 35 and I spend far too much time in these forums reading crap (and trying, God, how I try! not to respond to idiocy when I meet it. Note, I said trying).

I could be in school getting an extended education.
I could be teaching myself more about my computer (Bungie has helped me learn text markup tags, as everyone who's read my posts can see).
I could not bother to try and help educate some of the less informed kids (a lot of them are kids, as this thread proves).

I can't make them believe what I write is true, and if you want to get technical about it, it's only true from my experience. What they encounter in their lives may be (hell, most likely will be) completely different. That's fine.
If posting my knowledge, however limited it is, makes me feel like I'm helping some poor unfortunate souls, it's my right (given, and as easily taken away, by Bungie) to do so if I abide by the rules Bungie lays down. Equally, it is the right of anyone, no matter their age, to post utterly ignorant, time-wasting, fever-inducing, mod-maddening -blam!- here.
A wise man once said, "Opinions are like -blam!-s: Everyone has one, and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks."

If you want to hang out in the forums (and I'm not trying to tell you what to do), I'd just suggest ignoring and not responding to the stupidity. It hurts the brain to read it, but it hurts more people a lot more if you respond with nothing more than an complaint about it.
By and large, people don't have to be told something's stupid.
The people who post stupid topics and replies and spam just cannot be helped. Controlled by mods, perhaps. Helped, unlikely.
