I'd like to second that! I'd consider myself intellectually equal to anyone else here... if a bit immature at times :P

If you need proof... take a look at my recent postings... (mulling over marathon, what should bungie do next, and my own thread what it means to be "hero") you will see that if anything, I am more like the opposite end of the spectrum, full of abstract knowledge and in possesion of an amazing ability to ramble ;-)

All of the posts so far, (Ok, not all, but most) have been well written. It makes reading the thoughts of others much more enjoyable. Now, on the other hand, if you go through most of the other posts you might find that the opposite is true. That's where I was coming from when I started this thread. It seems that the majority of people in the forum are about 14-17. If this is an accurate cross section then I would wager that the majority of the posts which prompted this post are from this group. I guess high school just isn't doing a very good job. (Not all, again there are obviously exceptions though this might be student based and not school based). I find it pathetic really. Thanks to all the intelligent posts and feedback so far. And one more time...Don't get offended! If you get offended, you're likely the exception.

Your right, I'm almost 15 in 9th grade and me and JubJubTheGrunt tend too "disappear" from some of the classes (Gym, Biology and when there is some special day like the day before a vacasion) to play Halo...

I'm from Denmark (so is JubJub) and we try to spell as good as possible. We have actually learned alot english just by writing on bungie.net...

You may be a Dane but you spell better than many of the contributers in these forums. I'm impressed.

Thanks! I'm doing my best and try not to react to spam (to react to spam is spam too)... It's actually more fun to write to and with people that can spell wich is why I tend to be on The Underground all the time...

I'm 18. I'm of age to play the game. I type well, and spell good. (I really hope you caught that) I just feel that typing, grammar and spelling are the least of our problems on this forum. People just need to think before they post. Need I remind you of the "Have -blam!- sex or don't play Halo 2" thread that was here several months ago. If some of you remember that, then you remember that I posted on that quite a bit. And if you think I'm immature for that, then so be it. I just feel that maturity has something to do with accepting people's differences and not letting them piss you off so much. Well. . .I didn't know I was gonna type that much. Oh well.

But, one thing is bothering me. How old is the guy that types with his legs? Anybody remember him? He typed an almost incoherent post and I had to translate. So, Mr. Leg Typer. . .whoever you are. . .how old are you?

I am 20 years old and I do agree with the persons character and personality to have more of an effect than age alone. For example, and please do not get offended, there are you can have a 15 year old child who can be more mature than some college students around my age.

I'm 14, like most posters here. You don't need to be 17+ to fit a 'Mature Rating'. I'll be 15 in 4 days time, which makes me older than...some, and young enough to be some folks' child in this forum, lol.

I'm 19, yes there are those of us here that do show some good grammer and some actual intelligence in their posting. I am however, sick to death of idiotic and just plain stupid posts typed in the stupid abbreviations people use in chat rooms. You know the ones I'm talking about, posts that are typed like this and cover topics covered a million times before, such as: "wut will u do when u get ure copy of halo 2?"

topics like these cluttering up the board make it difficult to distinguish posts that might actually be intelligent. For those of you who young and still manage to make intelligent posts with correct spelling and grammer, I have the upmost respect for you, it's nice to see that not all of them are idiots.

Look. If there is seriously a chap out that types with his legs, then that is obviously an exception. Get a grip man. I'm not talking about that at all. I am not talking about the occasional typographical error either. It happens. I'm also not talking about kids or adults in general. If you reread my original post you'll see that I encompassed all (although not everyone) ages of people in that illiterate catagory. I was saying that the quality of threads and posts is pathetic regardless of the age of the contributers. Also, I was polling to find out what age bracket was largely responsible for this. I already apologized for saying adults might spend their time better than posting in an online video game forum. So I'll not do that again. Clearly a few are in rank and file with me when I say that it's just a little dismal to read some of the trash in these forums so I'll not retract that statement.

Thanks for proving the point of many of the posters here.

I don't mean to an intellectual elitist or the grammar gestapo. I'm just fed up with all the b.s. that transpires here (like many have already said). I like to discuss the on goings of Bungie but having to sift through swamps of rubbish is frustrating. I'm pleased to find that most of the posts here have been very...good. Thanks.

How about a solution? I'm sure the people at Bungie are doing there best to end the spamming and other garbage. They're in the 2 minute drill over there and probably can't moderate the forums as well as they'd like....or as I'd like. People are going to complain about free speech, blah, blah, blah. I just wish there was a better way to filter and moderate this forum. Any thoughts?

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

What age I be?

I be 16... 17 in less than a month, and going to college in the fall, where, sadly enough.. I may not have any more "good ol' days" like these...

17 at college? Yeah, you'll have fun. Trust me. Just as long as you remember the lifelong quote "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy!" Seriously. Take some time to enjoy college. You don't have to study 24/7. . .unless you're pre-med.

Ok, you're a little new, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Please don't take offense of this, I'm just trying to bring you up to speed.

A few months ago, there was a kid that came on telling us of something cool that he did with a warthog in HALO on level Halo. Pretty much his entire post was three sentences. I counted the periods. He tried to defend himself by saying he was using his legs to type, but meant he had the keyboard on his legs and was typing on that. We were just poking fun at him saying he had a real tallent being able to type with his legs. I'll see if I can find the old post so you guys can see the English teacher's nightmare.

Yeah, I merged my senior year with my junior year so I could get out of High School early (believe it or not... I don't care what you choose to do).

But I put that Shining quote in my AIM info once.... I even put it into different patterns and such, just like in the movie.

I don't see why you should care how people talk. I see people saying u, instead of you, and such all the time, but I don't attack them like you have. Just let it go. No one is hurting you.

I see what the_ender is talking about.... its like the kids who think they're all that by skipping letters off or tryign to talk the "l33t" way... it really does get on your nerves!

  • 07.11.2004 4:05 AM PDT

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

I say up with Zen! Don't let "l33t" speak affect you.

Simply say, "L00k, he's 7alking lik3 7his an s7uphf, an 7hinks i7s kewl..... meh."

Thats it... just say meh... those who do not put full effort into typing can have it there way. Will it do them any good in the end? Probably not... but then again, it doesn't concern us. We can't change it.

And high school never did anyone any good.

... The purpose behind this topic reminds me of the theory of the play, Pygmalion (George Bernard Shaw was the author, wasn't he?)
