On the Bungie.net forums I always prefer it when people type correctly because it makes it much easier to read when we are discusing very complexed and confusing subjects.
When you're on your MSN and such, you talk however you want and skip as many letters as you please. But when your on the Bungie.net forums, type correctly and normally.

I don't see why you should care how people talk. I see people saying u, instead of you, and such all the time, but I don't attack them like you have. Just let it go. No one is hurting you.

Try it this way instead:

1 d0N'7 c y u shud car how ppl tak. 1 c ppl sayn u, instd y0u, n su(h ATT, bu7 1 I)0I\I7 atak 7em lik u d0. LOL. let i7 g0. noonn is hu7nng u.
Same stuff. Same length. Same meaning. But it takes a HECK of a lot more time to read than the standard spellings.

Slop and shortcuts save time for the writer (one person) but cost more time for the readers (many people). It can also introduce ambiguity in meaning, muddying the message even further... leading to more posts asking for clarification and more replies to decrypt. So it doesn't really save any time at all most of the time. That's why it cheeses folks off

-- Steve notes that there are standard English spellings for a reason, and it's not just to keep teachers and copy editors employed.

[Edited, ironically, to fix a punctuation error. I missed addressing that in my post somehow...]

Exactly. I'm glad to see that I'm not alone on this side of the issue. The way I see it thus far there are two reasons people don't bother to make their posts intelligible. 1. They are lazy and don't care if people can't read their ideas (or it never occured to them that people can't read their ideas). 2. They can't form a coherent post because they don't know how. (i.e. They can't spell, can't form an actual sentence, or can't punctuate). Is there a third or fourth possibility?

I just had a thought. How many of the people who promote or condone poor spelling, grammar, and punctuation would like it if Frankie wrote his weekly updates that way? You'd be frustrated and irritated to no end. You wouldn't learn a single thing from those updates I assure you (not that Bungie isn't tight lipped enough as it is).

I, personally, would be devastated if people couldn't read my posts! I put as much thought and feeling into them as I can, I want them to be read.

actually i read that fine, if you spend enough time reading and typin that way then you can understand it pretty easily, and you use your mid to put the sentences together even though they may be missing some things, but most of the times when i talk like that is when im seriously -blam!- up in the head and keep making spelling errors.......
you cannot force people to write correctly with proper punctuation,.. youre forgetting that little kids dont even know what that is,.........................,.. i find it much easier to keep things short and place a bunch of periods after a sentence........... like so ,... this way its pretty easy to see where one sentence ends.........//,,. and where another begins,................................... but leet speak is pretty stupid ,,, not only does it not make sense but youre replacing letters with numbers, ...since when was numbers cool?>?,.. you only do more work when typing leet because you have to come up with areplacement,.......,,,,,,,,,,..... no human that i know so far can type in leet and do it at a fast pace,...........................G37 0ff 743 f0ruM$, y0u 1n7e11ec7ua11y Ch@113n93d h0Mo$3Xu@1 K1d$,........................heres some thing much cooler,....its the official language of gamers.////.....011000100110100101101110011000010111001001111 0010010000 10000110100001010.............. oh ya i forgot homany percent it was but i think it was 70 percent or something people are illeterate..........or was that 90?.........

By typing in short forms or slang in a largely populated site and forum such as this I think it makes you seem less intelligent.

but writing with proper punctuation and grammar or using a magnificently bogus vocabulary can have the negative effect of making you look like a 10 year old with a thesaraus.........
and trust me that happens a lot.....................

It's very evident when some kid is trying to sound older. I'm not asking for Shakespeare. Just clarity.

With Ate by his side come hot from hell,
Shall, in these confines, with a monarch's voice,
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war,"

well thats obviously understandable, a 10 year old would need an iq of well over 150 to understand or even begin to speak the language shakespeare wrote in, decoding messages from -blam!-s is a farless ambitious task,.................
you cannot ask for us to use proper grammar or punctuation with out understanding that many of the gamers here are far less intelligent/mature than us and are fat little slobs who spend most of their time playing games such as wrestle mania,.....ughh,. the horror of it all...

funny i never thought that N@zis would count as a swear, oh the perils of having little l33t bastards playing these games,..................

Your grammar isn't bad, Nabiul. I can easily read it. The posts I really have a problem with are those that lack sentance structure altogether, where incoherent thoughts run together without punctuation or logic.

funny i never imagined that thoughts are communicable, or rather non communicable which you are suggesting when you say that they are incoherent,..lol jks,..

yes those posts get on my nerves too but so far to the best of my abilities all i can do is ignore them, i find that my experience here at this forum is much more pleasurable when i limit myself to conversing with intelligent people and to only visit certain areas of the forum, so far the areas with the most knoledgeable/intelligent people are the seventh column and the underground, as you can easily see if you venture into other areas of the forum you most likely wont find any posts by me,..........

Yeah. New Mombasa's become a crazy spammer haven, and the Flood has always been one. Sometimes the Flood is fun if you're looking for a mindless thread to post in.

And now I'm out before I get so tired my own thoughts become incorerent.

What's a "forum people"? I'm guessing it doesn't bother you too much because you yourself have a tremendous time trying to make yourself sound near your age. What's the deal with the ellipsis? Do people think that three periods is not good enough and they need six or 16 to convey their message? You only get three, people. Just three can do the job of many.

Sorry "the_Ender", I didn't mean to waste your time with my pitiful excuse of a forum post. What I meant was... It's a forum, people, get over it. And the elipse thing, it comes from habit. I'm sorry I'm not nearly as good of a forum poster when it comes to grammar and such. My most humble apologies, eat my a$$.
