no its not a bad thing....read my previous posts on the first page....ive NEVER had problems with my Thompson and they are "supposedly" the worst (most prone to have errors)

also: MOST people have the Thompson WHICH is the one with the "U" Shaped hole......

PS. i play my xbox EVERYDAY, whether its Halo or other games.....

lol...thats what we've been saying.....

there are three different drives

from "worst" to "best"

1) thompson

2)panasonic

3) samsung

edit: as ive said stated though, this ranking means nothing, my thompson has performed flawlessly

It's a Phillips drive, not a Panasonic, and some of the older Thompson drives will NOT read Dual Layer discs. Only the Samsung drives read CD-R's, and the thread was not originally SPAM, it was very valid. The only spam here is the people who keep yelling don't spam.

And Griph, none of them have a "bad" drive, only outdated ones. Most of the green "Halo" Edition XBoxes had a Samsung drive however. To check, look at the drawer, if it has the lens space and 2 holes next to it, it's the Samsung Drive and you should have no problems.

If it's the wide opening then you may have no problems, but it won't read CD-R, and if it's the narrow opening, I'd trade it in for a newer drive.

And By the way, I'm 25.

If they cant read DL discs that would mean they cant play DVDs. has that happened?
