Just a query, but, currently, firefightwise, would be the best places in the original Halo to brush up on skills for Halo 2?

I'm currently training my little brother (12 years old) how to lead his shots with the handgun and sniper rifle in Blood Gultch. Later on Heavy Weapons training with the SPNkR Rocket Launcher and Shotgun in Longest.

Co-op wise I'm thinking of running him through The Maw, Truth and Reconciliation, and Keyes on Legendary.

Any other suggestions on good places to train a lil bro into becoming adequate backup come time for HAlo 2 Co-op?

andvancing which will be key on the zanzabar map!

Get him using the sniper rifle on sidewinder, and you run around and drive in vehicles. This is really one of the best way's to train for that.

As for close combat, do co-op on legendary (AotCR,Maw,Keyes).

Cool man ;)

The way i train is playing multiplayer 1against 3(handicap). The point is not to get killed at all try to stay alive for the longest in any map.

5 deaths/poor
4 deaths/so-so
3 deaths/ok
2 deaths/ucool
1 death/good
0 death/READY FOR HALO 2,.,.,.,.,.,,

The rules are simple.
15 kills to win.
Unlimited time.
No scorpions allowed.
Worthhog or ghost are allowed.

That should help ur lil bro.
p.s if u wanna get better use a 2 weapon that u nearly ever use and stick with that weapon.

Just my opinion , but ur lil bro won't get much practice if an elite keeps killing him, try something a little easier like Heroic on Silent Car. Teaches him to storm the enemy, and gives him plenty of moving targets as well as some loser in a small hallway with a sword trying to cut you(him) up.

I would say take, MetalSpy's advice, but i can wipe the floor with my friends. Unless someone gets a lucky sniper shot i always win 15 to 0....They just SUCK.

Well my brother usually knocks me out of my ghost with two shots in Blood Gultch, hes a really good marksman, but hes not that good close up, he tends to spray and pray when given automatics and he needs grenade work.

Its not so much Legendary difficulty, we've gone through normal and easy and he's had my backall the way. Its just the Library levels he tends to panic and shoot wildly (So many targets, so few bullets... especially split amongst two people). We've gotten through the first two levels on Legendary, but I'm trying to train him for a specific focus.

I'm gearing him for close combat. My prefered tactic in SP has always been a flanking or frontal charge with ample distration brough on by frag and or plasma grenades. Single player wise, this often leads to a hole of sorts in the enemy group, which I exploit by running through, while they're attention is focused on me my partner lobs another grenade (or weapon willing a rocket) into te reformed mass of enemies. then we sweep up later on. I'm trying to make the Rocket Launcher and Shotgun extensions of his arm ^_^

We would go 3 vs 1 but he's shy around strangers and whenever I bring my friends around he more often than not prefers to watch.

go to silent cartographer, and when you face the hunters in the middle outside, kill one, then revert to saved, kill again... etc.

I don't think all thats necessary in order to get good at a game, and why do you have to "train",,just have fun with it man. Some people take it way too seriously, I love Halo too, but I don't take it that seriously.

But a good way to train would go to the LONGEST and most boring level in the game on legendary, The Library, or TaR.

This is personally how I brush up on my coordination and "calibrate" my aiming/shooting. I go to Library on Legendary--where hordes of Flood pop out from every direction to surround you--and use only pistol and shottie. Mostly I just use pistol, but whip out shottie if I find myself in a jam. But in the case of someone new, the heavy use of both will avail. The idea is that he will be spinning and shooting, spinning and shooting. That's the best way to train.

Oh, and going straight up head-to-head with him also helps. I took a friend from complete greenhorn to competitive in about twice a week for three months. Leave enemy indicator on so that kills come from actual toe-to-toe skills and not from mere surprise.

Does this thread have any relevance to Halo 2 really? Youre all talking about Halo1 :S

Try AotCR it's large levels are good for grenade work and the hall are close range firefights...

Really single-player isn't that good a practice at all, but it is better than nothing I guess.

The main reason is that in single-player you'll mainly be up against elites. Yes there's jackals and grunts in there too and in some levels there's even some other races altogether but mainly you're real challenge are elites.

Elites are very unrealistic enemies especially on Legendary. On legendary they have godlike aim with the plasma rifle and elites have a strength to human weapons. In fact you could play through single player and be forgiven for thinking the pistol is crap. And we all know that's not true.

Take ur brother through assault on the control room. He can experience every weapon, vehicle, and enemy. And its great practice for anyone!

yeah, the aotcr is an excellent place to build up on skills.

as well, it's good to find people who are a considerable bit better than you, and play with them as much as you can, learning their tactics, trying them out for yourself, and adapting to them. soon, you'll be better than them. of course, then the process starts again with them trying to get better than you. it's a lengthy process, but it's excellent for building up a clan, and we have plenty of time until halo 2.

Two Betrayals on Heroic if he dies too often on Legendary. That level lets you fight tough Covies and Flood in tight spaces and in the open. Teach him the importance of being able to move in one direction, turn, stick some Covie bastige with a plasma nade , turn, pop a Jackal with a pistol at long range, then rush some Flood with a shotty, all without losing your shield completely. Oh, and headshots. Lots and lots of headshots. Muy importante.

My lil' bro in-law is 12, I've been teaching him lately, and in a couple of months I think he will be a formidible opponent, at least when I'm not being a heartless killing machine.

What I do for my ultimate training is going through every level in legendary with a pistol and fighting my way through without getting camo or overshields. I also play without losing a health bar, that means I only lose my shield, and when I do lose a health bar I just revert to save and try again its really good practice it makes u more aware of keeping yourself alive while inflicting pain on everything else. Also a little trick to teach your bro is when he has plasma grenades and he see an Elite, what Ill do for fun sometimes is carry a plasma pistol and when you an Elite you overcharge the plasma pistol and shoot at the Elite it stuns him for like a sec and thats when you throw a grenade on them. Its possibly the easiest way to kill an Elite if you have the grenades.
