Ok, im back again. I really need to know what type of slot i have for my video card. I dont know if its PCI or AGP. And I really need to know. I have Everest home edition but i just dont know where to look. Please tell me where to look. I dont want to buy a wrong type of graphics card. And yes, I am a console n00b, and know almost nothing about computers.

Edit: I can send you the summary of my computers specs for you to look at if you give me your e-mail address. Thanks.

ok dude - this is what I need - unplug all the wires from the back of your computer (remember where they go), now take a screwdriver and remove the side panels. Take a picture of your motherboard. Reassemble everything. upload the picture somewhere and send me the link.

Alternatively - this is a long shot if your computer is from dell or some manufacturer like that. Find the manual that came with your motherboard - it should tell you what kind of slot you have.

Yeah, its from dell. Ill see if I can find the manual. But if not ill just do what you said and take a pic of my motherboard. Thanks for your help, and any more help from anyone else is also welcome.

If you got a cheap dell pc ($600 or less) chances are really high that you only have PCI slots. If you open your case the PCI slots will be raised long bars. There should be one long hole and one short hole in them. Mine are white so yours might be too but don't go by that. If you have another kind of slot than you have AGP. Unless you bought an expensive gaming comp from dell, you won't have PCIe.

yeah, man - PCI slots are generally white and AGP slots are generally brown, but that's not always the case... Get me that pic and I can tell you for sure.

okay, first is there slot thats bigger than the others located at the near center of the motherboard? If all the slots are identical, then its likely that u have pci. However, if u have one slot unique from the others, (bigger different color,) than its agp or pci-express(witch i HIGHLY doubt. ) Its most likely an agp.

Well, I bought this Dell PC in 2001 and it cost me about 2000 bills =P. Does that mean that my chances for having an AGP slot higher? (because I would very much rather have an AGP slot, of course) Also, I really dont know how to open up my PC to take a pic of my motherboard, so i could use a short walkthru (man, I'm asking for a lot, lol) or if anyone has Everest home edition, they could tell me where to look, or anything else. Thanks for all of the help.

if there are no screws then there should be a lever or button on te back. Press this and the side should come off.

Yeah, the lever is shaped like a backwards "L" and the side that slides off has indentions on it. It slides towards the back of the comp. Just make sure you power everything off and unplug everything so you dont damage the system board and all the slots.

Well, under MOTHERBOARD NAME, it says Dell Dimension 8200. Is that enough, or do you need more info?

Um, thats an older model I believe (not sure though). Still if you paid 2000 dollars in 2002 then I would imagine it has AGP. If I find out b4 anyone else I'll let you know.

Well I think thats enough. I googled it and it found this on Ebay. If that is your motherboard then you have an agp slot. Thats not a bad motherboard. If you get the 2Ghz processor and a good agp card, it will last you a while.

I find that you think upgrading is the answer to most things ioniz. That motherboard will last him a while if he gets the right stuff for it.

It doesn't matter if its old, if he gets a good card, it wont really matter until AGP is "so last year".
