Subject: Am I going mad, or what?

It looks like b.net got a minor update. Before, well, now, as in the last 4 hours or so, typing posts in Safari had a nice white text box with nice black text. Now it looks like this.

Quite the shock, as you can imagine. But the real question here is - what is the web team doing making site upgrades in the wee small hours of the morning? I have posted within the last four or so hours, and unless I'm going rampant, Bungie has been working harder than they should be.

Bottom line: go Bungie!

Hmm....It looks pretty much the same to me as no one else noticed or reported this..I guess that happens because you're a moderator and you have white colored font...

There was an os x update yesterday. Did you download it? Maybe apple fixed some of safari's problems.

  • 04.17.2005 6:11 AM PDT

I think you may be on to something, stosh. From the KBase entry on the update:

Safari

Accessing certain websites, such as msnbc.com, mail.yahoo.com, ticketmaster.com, and others, no longer displays a "bad server response" alert that could occur in Safari.
Addresses an issue in which "safe downloads" files are not automatically opened after downloading.
SSL webpages (pages with URLs that start with "https://") load faster in Safari.
Adds some important Verisign root certificates to Safari, allowing you to connect to certain secure websites that you might not have been able to surf before.
Adds other trusted root certificates to Safari, such as VISA and RSA.

I don't know what half of that means, but it's probably hidden in there somewhere.

I'd put my money on that one.

  • 04.17.2005 6:44 AM PDT

But Bungie.net is a http:// site, not https://

Oh well.

Of course, the Apples.

  • 04.17.2005 7:56 AM PDT

I know its not, but I don't see how certificates and safe download issues would affect the viewing of sites. But that may...

i think the "s" in https means "secure" as in places that block certain users. what it is saying is that these websites might have recognized you as an unsafe user, but now recognize you as safe now...well uh...thats just my guess. i dont know anything anyways.

Camrock, I advise that you back up very slowly, then turn around and run. I think Reiginko may still have an Elbis stone or two. *Is saddened that nobody besides Reig will get that* And in any event, he always has ninjas.

Macs are *very* nice machines. If I wasn't a gamer I would be using a mac right now. Unfortunately, the vast majority of games come out for the PC first (or exclusively), and I'm too poor and/or lazy to buy one of each.

There is a program that allows you to run a Windows OS simutaneously with a Mac OS on a mac. Can't remember the name of it though.

https:// is the url for a secured site. Basicly it has a moniter 24/7 looking out for possible hackers or other fraud or intruders makeing sure that no information leaves that site. It is used by many goverment intranet sites, internet logins, and other bank and busness sites espically when dealing with transactions. Though the owner of the site goes through a legal promise of ensuring your privacy there is always someone looking. The moniter for one and how trustworthy they are is up to question. Just look at the news report of all thoes baggage checkers at the airport helping themselves to a new ipod. Which is why IE always gives you a warning everytime you go into a secured site. In short http:// = someone may be watching. https:// = someone (w/credentials) is watching.

YES! Somebody else here uses Safari! I never noticed that before though, Reig. Well, at least I'm not alone, Alaska and Austraillia may have a lot in common. :P

Well considering you use Safari, which means you have a mac. ON A MICROSOFT website, then yes. You are going "mad".

Bungie has the ability to do that to people. Matt knew the ins and outs of that Mind Control Ray a little too well, it seems.
