I recommend just getting a new Xbox. Some or most of the new ones have better DVD-ROM drives so all of the games will work fine now. I used to have an Xbox like that and it kept freezing for some of the later games I had until I got a new Xbox, and now any game I play works fine. If you don't want to buy a new one, and intend on fixing the one you already have, I can't help you. And yes, modding is illegal and if you talk about it on these forums you might get banned.

I just think yours needs a good clean, send it into Microsoft and they will open yours and clean it out. Normally its dust related. Remember to keep an X-box away from strong EM devices and heat. If the fan dosent work it can be replaced, but Microsoft Charges money for the service though.

i have a 1st generation xbox too.....i play hard core mostly xbox live....and theres nothing wrong with it....only every ocne and a while it will freeze...i also have the newest and coolest halo xbox so when my old-timer xbox dies out i got my halo one to back it up....heheh.

im guessing u should send it away to microsoft and they will fix it for some price...which i think is around a $100...but thats me guessing....something like that...either send ti to them, or buy a new one....i personally like my older xbox better then the halo one for some reason i guess cause of the sentimentale value or something idk....lol....
